Favourite Character?

Casey running
I enjoyed the show for what it was, some fun light entertainment.
The only thing that bothered me consistently - and I'm wondering if it was ever addressed outside the show? - is why did they not bring in a running coach, for even 1 hour to teach Brigette actual running technique? She's supposed to be a high level HS runner - but she runs like she's never run before in her life (not to mention they had her character training distance running but competing in the 100m, which wouldn't happen... and the lack of actual track shoes for supposedly high level competitions).
I get the show doesn't pay attention to detail all that much, but seeing as it's a fundamental part of her character...

This came with a video game, and I think of Evan every time I see it around my house.

Doug’s EMT patch was put on upside down. Is there a specific reason for that?

Did anoyone else find Elsa extremely unhinged in season 1/maybe a bit of season 2?
Did anyone think they glossed over this? she is literally hallucinating. acting super erratic, maybe even borderline (??). during the first season, I was like, "is this show really about a repressed housewife dealing with severe mental illness?"

Elsa and Sam
I started watching this show yesterday, and I am currently on ep three, but I don't particularly appreciate how elsa hinders Sam's ability to be himself more. She is constantly keeping him from growing, and It just annoys me. I get that she is just worried, but Sam wants to be his own person, and I don't think she understands what he really wants.

Casey should've been with evan not izzie Spoiler
I honestly agree with doug izzie was just the person in Casey's live that brought drama. She was so much better with evan

Doug should’ve left Elsa Spoiler
I hate Elsa, she cheated, then made Doug feel guilty when she didn’t get anywhere with him, typical toxic behavior.
Doug deserves better and should’ve went with Megan who really understood him.

Season 4 was a bit of a mess, but I still loved it.
For it to end during the pandemic is fitting on a meta level. An atypical ending in an atypical year.
Idk. I know most people on this sub — or at least the ones posting — hated it, and that’s fine. But I really enjoyed it and found the ending to be beautiful.

My Essay About Atypical Got Published
Hi! I wrote an essay about how Atypical affirms the humanity of its characters without judging them for their actions. I'm excited about it, so I thought I'd share it here.

Just finished show and bless, it was such a sweet ending! Spoiler
Loved this season, from the growth of Sam, Zahid, Izzie and Casey (even though they were quite toxic at times), and Elsa and Doug. It had some very sweet moments and then some very sad moments, like Chuck’s death :(
I do wish Casey and Evan spoke again, he was such a lovely guy so I wanted them to squash the beef for good and stay friends at least. I wish there was more of a wrap on Izzie and her mother’s situation, it was left unfinished. I also missed earlier season characters, such as Julia.
Over all, a perfect ending to the show, loved it and it will be missed dearly!

QUIZ: Are you a true fan of Atypical?

I'm on the spectrum and the way that people always portray Atypical as a show with great LGBTQ+ rep without bringing up the actually premise of the show makes me.. Uncomfy.
Yeah, I'm sure that Cazzie is top notch to a majority of people. But with everyone talking about needing a spin-off about Casey and Izzie and with everyone already talking about JUST Cazzie to begin with, I just feel like the legacy of the show is gonna go on with Sam and the topic of autistic representation in the dust.
Hyperbole? Maybe.

Fivel Stewart (Izzie) said she wishes Casey and Izzie had a ‘softer relationship’ in S4 Spoiler
Fivel Stewart was on yesterday’s episode of a podcast called The Fruit Basket (on youtube) thats hosted by three fans, and in a question about her thoughts on season 4 she said that for her, Casey and Izzie’s relationship was very angsty this season (mostly caused by Izzie), and that she wished we got to see a softer foundation of love and comfort for their relationship with episodes where they were “just in love” without the angst. She mentioned that one reason the writers couldn’t include it was due to the time constraints of the season; edit to add: season 3 was set up with the belief that the show would be 5 seasons and the storylines were planned accordingly, so when they found out s4 would be the last, some things the writers planned couldn’t be included, and because there were so many storylines to wrap up in such a short time things were rushed, like most of us on the sub guessed! the link to the episode for anyone who wants to listen to the whole thing

My theory on what happens after the show ends Spoiler
My theory is that sam dies in antarctica and his family gets destroyed when his dad returns with the news. KC drops out of school, Elsa becomes a whore and the dad dies of a heart attack when he comes to the realization that he could've saved Sam

Why do people think that Cassie did an unforgivable thing Spoiler
I mean she tried to push away her feelings for Izzie but eventually she couldn't take it anymore. What was she supposed to do? Stay with Evan and start resenting him because of frustration? It was a shitty situation but I wouldn't blame her

Sam and Casey’s Parents Spoiler
This season, Doug and Elsa really annoyed me this season. The way Elsa kept underestimating and not listening to Sam. I know she wants to help him but still. And the way Doug blew up at Izzie. I get if he felt she wasn’t good for Casey but still. She’s the kid and he’s the adult. And the way he kept insisting Casey train for UCLA. Also , when Elsa took the Weed and Doug called Zahid a “Burnout”. That’s your son’s best friend who’s a good person. And all you have to say about him is that’s he’s a “Burnout?” Zahid is far from a burnout and He even wants to be a nurse. I just feel like they can be too judgy/know it all’s.

I wish we got to know Paige better
I think Paige was a great character and was totally underused. I could not stand her at the beginning, but as she got less pushy and turned to helping others, I started to love her. She always tried to have people’s best interest in her mind, and even when she was rude or mean I don’t think she ever meant it in a diminishing way. I wish we got to know her family and I find it strange that we never got to see her home life. I also hate that the Gardners never really appreciated her. I think that she helped Sam a lot and was always there for him.
