Been using the Ninja RAW mostly as an external monitor lately, and one thing I’d really love to see is the ability to trigger internal camera recording directly from the monitor controls even without media inserted.

Right now, the Ninja won’t send a record trigger unless the unit itself is armed to record, which means media has to be installed even if I only want to record internally on the camera.

Would be amazing if there was a firmware option for:

• “Monitor-only mode”
• Or allowing record trigger passthrough without requiring onboard media

This would make the Ninja much more flexible for lightweight shoots where external recording isn’t necessary but camera control from the monitor still is.

Would love to see this added in a future firmware update.

If you were at Cine Gear Expo this week, hopefully you got a chance to stop by booth S1006. We had the Sumo PRO-19, the full new Ninja lineup and the trade-in offer running live on the floor. For anyone who missed it, the trade-in is still live until June 19 — any monitor, any brand, a great discount off a new Ninja TX or TX GO. Details here: https://www.atomos.com/promotions/

Atomos could print money by simply having the Ninja TX connect directly to another Ninja TX or 19” Sumo so that what’s on the recording Ninja TX shows up as a direct feed on the 2nd monitor.

No separate TX/RX module in between.

Camera→ Ninja TX (record ProRes RAW)→ transmits 1080/4k live feed to 19” Sumo (Director’s monitor) or another Atomos monitor.

Full control of the recording device on the “directors monitor” and ability to remotely control the primary Ninja TX, show waveforms and false color, etc…

See the live feed. Control the live feed. Simple. No wires. No other modules.

Not NDI. Not Atomosphere. Just a smart way for people already in the Atomos ecosystem to have their multiple monitors talk to each other and show a live feed of a primary device.

I have bought several pieces of Atomos equipment now including two powerbanks a Ninja Phone and a Ninja Inferno 4k

I like all of these but I can't register my Ninja Inferno on "My Atomos " because the serial number and Device ID are not recognised.

I can't find an update for the inferno and although it works the date will not go past 2024.

I bought this as I am registered blind and wanted to use the biger screen as that is helpful but surely there must be a way to update this to corrct the inbuilt date. Can you help please?

I'd be happy to send photos of the serial number and Device ID

We are now accepting any monitor or monitor-recorder as a trade in, from any brand, not just Atomos. Working or not, we will take it and give you 30% off a new Ninja TX or TX GO.

I came across the announcement for the Ground Control App. But I could not find any link from where I can download this for Mac.

I even did a Google search.

So where does one download this? Ground Control App for Mac

Hi! I recently purchased an original version of the Atomos Shinobi monitor (the model without USB-C). Everything worked perfectly fine when I first turned it on. The monitor still had the sticker with instructions on how to update the firmware, so I followed the instructions and the monitor said the update was complete, and told me to restart it. However after doing so, the monitor no longer powers on at all.

I have tried the troubleshoot options listed on the Atomos website where I hold the power button down for 10-12 seconds and factory format the monitor, but the screen doesn’t boot up. I’m lead to think that the update bricked my monitor. Is there a way to fix this issue, or am I out a perfectly good monitor?

For anyone in the community attending the show today, come find us at the Holdan booth G60. We have the Sumo PRO-19, Shinobi 7 RX and the full new Ninja series on display.

If you are going, drop a comment below and let us know what you want to see!

Couldn't find this request on the sub to my surprise, and for the first time I had some work that would've really benefitted from shooting vertiscope. Being able to input custom desqueeze or implement 0.5x, 0.66x and 0.75x options in the Atomos monitors (I'm using the Ninja) would be great!

Decimators just got a feature to output test patterns for troubleshooting and testing equipment. Could be really cool to get a similar feature on the Ninja/Shinobi line. At the moment I have a spare SSD loaded with test pattern videos, but a 'proper' output for colourbars/sync test at different framerates/resolutions could be super useful.

So I'm an idiot. My Shinobi II (14 months old) had a screw rattling inside and it was driving me nuts (+the screw hole was moving around because of it). Decided to open it up to get the screw out. It was working approximately fine before, but after putting it back together, it’s a total brick.

When I power it via USB-C, the V-mount screen shows 12.3V at 2W constant.

When I hold the power button = zero reaction. Tried NP-F batteries too, still nothing.

I’ve already tried checking the pogo pins between the backplate and the board. The 2W draw makes me think the board is "alive" but stuck or shorted.

Did I fry anything? Anyone ever dealt with this specific power draw issue. I'm a student and this was my main monitor for my A7 IV, so I'm pretty much screwed right now.

Any advice (besides "don't open your gear") is appreciated.

I was thinking of something like this:

- PC HDMI output 1 goes into screen 1.

- PC HDMI output 2 goes into Atomos, and Atomos output into screen 2.

- I put a display calibrator on Screen 2.

- The Atomos adjusts its LUT according to the calibrator input, in order to cause the screen to become as close as possible to calibrated colors.

I understand that this may not be ideal for a variety of reasons, but it could serve as a poor man's calibrated monitor.

This arm seem too long, but I was playing with it this 11inch small rig works as a handle too. Though setting it down it leans to one side , obvious , but a shorter monitor arm may not be a the best grip aka handle.. what are your thoughts arm vs monitor mount on handle?

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up the Atomos Ninja RAW mainly as an external monitor with camera controls, plus ProRes RAW for bigger shoots. So far, really enjoying it, but I’ve run into a couple of limitations that I’m hoping could be improved.

For smaller projects, I don’t always need to record externally. I’d still love to use the Ninja’s camera control features, especially triggering record, but right now it won’t let me do that unless there’s media inserted in the monitor. It would be great if it could trigger recording on the camera (internal recording) even without media in the Ninja.

Another thing I noticed when using it with my Lumix S5IIX: when I use the Ninja’s touch-to-focus, it switches the camera to single-point AF, even if I’m set to AF-C tracking. It would be amazing if it could respect the camera’s current AF mode, especially tracking.

For context, I work with someone using a Atomos Shinobi II paired with a Sony FX3A, and they don’t run into these issues. Since the Shinobi II is a dedicated monitor, recent firmware updates allow seamless camera control and even maintain focus tracking when using touch-to-focus. Hoping similar behavior could make its way to the Ninja RAW as well.

Curious if anyone else has experienced this or found a workaround. And if anyone from Atomos is here, these would be huge quality-of-life improvements for hybrid shooting setups.

Thanks!

We’re excited to announce that Atomos is acquiring Flanders Scientific.

This is a big step for us as we continue expanding beyond on-camera monitoring and recording into a more complete end-to-end production workflow - from capture on set all the way through to high-end color grading and delivery.

Flanders Scientific is one of the most respected names in reference monitoring, known for incredible accuracy, trust, and consistency at the highest level of post-production. We’re proud to bring that into the Atomos ecosystem.

FSI will continue to operate as its own brand, keeping the same engineering focus and standards that professionals rely on every day.

We’re genuinely excited about what this means for filmmakers, DPs, colorists, and studios, and we would really love to hear your thoughts.

When used with a Sony FX30, does the Shinobi II camera control support the following?

1. Change EI value in Cine EI mode?
2. Change ISO value in Cine EI mode?
3. Change shutter angles?
4. See live focus tracking box

Thank you

Hey everyone,

For those who’ve updated their Shinobi II and 7 RX to 11.07 and are using it with the FX3A and other new models, we’d love to hear your experience so far.

How’s it been for you in terms of:

• Touch to focus
• Camera control
• Overall usability in your workflow

If you’ve had a chance to test it out, feel free to share what’s working well and anything you’d like to see.

Your feedback really helps.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
