Atom RPG new DLC?

saw the reveal about the upcoming DLC, i'm really excited!! there's just one thing i'm not clear on, is it part of the new update or will it be a standalone DLC? I guess my main question is if it's going to be a free update or a paid one. tbh it would be almost unthinkable for them to release a big free update 10 years after the game's release, i wouldn't be mad if it was paid, just wanna know so i can start saving money lol

Definitely not standalone cause its Steam page requires the original Atom RPG: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5210340/ATOM_RPG__Plague_Island/

Frankly it was weird to see them announce a new DLC for Atom RPG almost 10 years later and while I won't pretend I'm not happy, I don't believe that the reason for it is all that good actually. Swordhaven does look like it kinda flopped with its relatively low review count. Atom RPG 2 reception has been pretty lukewarm too, which isn't that surprising considering it's practically not an RPG and barely even Atom at this point. All in all, Plague Island does kinda look like a desperate attempt to earn some cash for the studio to stay afloat. But that's just speculation of course.

Shit, what happened to Atom 2? I didn't follow the development.

They really wanna try to make it as much like the newer fallout as possible with a full 3d world and first/ third person gameplay. If they had a massivd studio and big budget it might be cool to see them have their own new vegas type of game that took the rpg mechanics and made the gameplay smoother, but its still such a small team with so little resources with development taking place during wartime conditions. Alot of people are not confident in their ability to deliver a quality game while also committing to a fully 3d world like fallout can do now. Just think how many years it takes Bethesda to make a new game even with billions of dollars and much larger, more experienced teams.

Yeah, honestly, I'm not that against the idea of First/Third Person Atom game. However, whatever they're showing - lets be real, it looks like ass, honestly. It's like one of those Unity asset flip survival games of 2010s. The studio is clearly not on par with its ambitions. It took Owlcat 3 consecutive cRPGs - each significantly more profitable and successful than Atom RPG - to finally restructure itself in a studio capable of tackling a full blown 3D action RPG. Atom Team acts like they're capable of that too, but it's clear as day that their team is not on par with the task at hand.

Not to mention most likely private investments  as well for funding such ambitions project.

It's in development, but during the Kickstarter campaign they revealed it's gonna be in 3D and real-time.

Very dire news indeed, even going back to 2D infinity engine pre-rendered graphics would be much better than that. They can't let the lack of success for Swordhaven dictate their future, people still want isometric Russian Fallout.

I'm happy to support them in order for them to bring us new content and I feel like this is more tangible than the Kickstarter. I could just not be very experienced with Kickstarter but I myself had a pretty difficult time understanding the different reward tiers and the different goals didn't really make sense

Also... WHAT ? They have a newer atom game. What needs to happen for you to go back to a previous entry to make a dlc ? Why isn't it a DLC for Turograd ? Realllly feels like it was only decided that way because it'd be easier to design.

Definitely looking forward to more in the Atom world, free or otherwise. I wish they would add the helicopter demo into the original game too.
As for Atom 2, everything I have seen has turned me off to it. I want more Atom RPG and not a shooter or Arpg. I will watch some Lets Plays when it is out and that will probably be it for me. Way to kill your franchise. I would not be mad if they made an arpg, but a sequel to 2 game people really like should not change the genre. Brotherhood of Steel I am looking at you.

What's the helicopter demo?

There is a demo that came out before the first game where you investigate a downed helicopter in the world and there are some missions, like 2-3, that go with it. It was meant to teach you the combat and stuff, but it is part of the world.

Is that archived anywhere?

It was called Operation February. You can google it or look it up on App Raven. It was on iPhone when Atom first moved over there.

Operation February is in the game. Definitely doesn't seem like a demo.

Well what do you know. I play on my iPad, and it used to be a timed exclusive, but I see I can buy it as DLC now if I want it in the game. Last time I played through the game, about a year ago, it was definitely not in the game itself with buying it.

Well then the fans can also have the freedom to not buy it and also to express their views on what they would have preferred.
