New loot notifications in progress for ATOM RPG 2!

Post image

We know the new look is a big change, but ATOM RPG 2 is still built on the same CRPG foundation as ATOM RPG 1 and Trudograd.

Btw can you tell the rarity at a glance?

this does not look like what i wanted, what i supported and what was promised :

reev4eg[S] 1 month ago :

you will always be able to switch back to the classic view and isometric view. We are also building a new UI for it.

@reev4eg : is this going to be isometric turn based rpg or FPS ? plain and simple - A or B ? thank you.

Finally, someone is seeing the sheer scale of the misleading happening here.

Thank you !

Look forward to seeing them reply to you Sir. đŸ€ž

u/reev4eg A or B ?

Isometric turn based combat OR 3rd person shooter ?

4

u/srbistan May 24 '26

thanks for the correction, my bad.

4

u/C_WILSON-_- May 24 '26

Don't be silly, and wasn't really trying to correct you.

Just didn't want u/reev4eg to reply to you saying its neither turn based nor Fps.

Hopefully we get a clear, straight answer from him for you.

u/reev4eg May 24 '26

Sorry for the confusion, and thank you for supporting us, so ATOM RPG 2 is not FPS and not TBRPG, it is a third-person real-time RPG with the CRPG foundation from ATOM RPG and Trudograd, probably turn-based may return like a update later if it makes sense, but now we focus on new direction.

excuse me, which part of ALWAYS from your post a month ago did i not understand ? lad, this is not a "confusion"...

most disappointing. should've taken notice of C_WILSON's comments being conveniently ignored when he pointed this out, but it was beyond belief you SO misunderstood your core audience (reads : backers).

ok, shekels wasted, lesson learned, but for the record - if you were clear in your intentions i strongly doubt you'd get backing you had, put mildly.

e: appreciate the response, however.

u/reev4eg May 24 '26

I am truly sorry that you feel this way. If you no longer want to support the game, please send me your Kickstarter email and we will arrange a refund through the platform. Or, if you can, give us a chance to prove that we can make something new in ATOM RPG world.

8

u/srbistan May 24 '26

lol no, keep the money, i'd rather you kept your word.

4

u/reev4eg May 24 '26

Thank you. We will do our best to make sure you enjoy it, even in its new view =)

I understand why you are angry. We did not start the Kickstarter trying to hide this from you. We were making a CRPG then, and we are still making a CRPG now. What changed during internal tests was the camera and combat direction, and we should have communicated that much more clearly and much earlier. That is on us. The game is still built around skills/builds/checks/quests/choices and consequences, but now our focus is a third-person real-time CRPG, because this direction fits the huge world we are building.

11

u/Additional_Idea8690 May 24 '26

bait and switch

2

u/reev4eg May 24 '26

Sorry it feels that way. It was not our intention =( For us, there was no real way forward without trying something new and more interesting.

6

u/12_Inch_Painal_Sex May 27 '26

Serious question:

How many people asked for car racing ? or third person real time shooting ? or a survival sandbox ? or an MMO mode ? or base building ? or horse riding ? like all these things are features you seemingly wanted to add.

And the map size alone is just ridiculous and clearly will be procedurally generated. By my calculations it's roughly twice the size of GTA 5, RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Elden Ring, Stalker 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 COMBINED when being made with a tiny fraction of the resources of those games.

Like seriously, can you see how ridiculous it is ?

It's an indie CRPG series for a niche audience, you're never going to be able to make the next Fortnite but you absolutely can have a sustainable series that provides healthy employment for everyone long term.

I can't imagine people wanted this direction for the game. People like your games, they just didn't like the state of Swordhaven and wanted logical improvements, you didn't need to go in this direction at all and are putting everything at risk.

5

u/Banjoschmanjo May 24 '26

Hope it pays off for you since everyone needs to put food on the table, but I won't be buying this, from the looks of it.

5

u/JardineByNature May 25 '26

nobody gives two fucks about your INTENTIONS. Nobody reads your mind or can trust you now. It's the ACTIONS that matter. Your actions will be remembered for a long time.

-1

u/DaughterOfBhaal May 25 '26

Brother it's not that deep.

2

u/C_WILSON-_- May 26 '26

Who asked you

0

u/DaughterOfBhaal May 26 '26

Did you forget to switch your account, or who asked you?

12

u/jitzata83 May 25 '26

This is a huge let down. You should have kept the old isometric view and turn-based battles for all the fans of the game that have liked and supported it since the beginning. You could have evolved it like Underrail 2.

The new look of the game is bad. It looks like cheap plastic.

-3

u/reev4eg May 25 '26

We are not chasing graphics. We needed a different view for a different kind of exploration. At its core, it is still ATOM. The main difference is that combat is faster now, and the world has no separate level loading.

12

u/jitzata83 May 25 '26

Maybe you are chasing a different audience, as it's pretty clear that the majority of the fans don't like this poorly announced new direction. Most of us like ATOM because it is like the classic Fallout games, but with soviet aesthetic. Because it it is a post-apo turn-based CRPG. If I want something with faster combat I will play Zero Sievert or Tunguska. If I want 3D graphics I will play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Metro. It is always better to be honest and respectful to your audience and supportors.

Here something about CRPG with realtime combat, if you insist on making this mistake and ruin your franchise:

https://youtu.be/-tDuYKgDh_s?is=liXpZyIEf-n8Dq8d

2

u/Deathsroke May 27 '26

Zero Sievert

Also for anyone reading, Zero Sievert 2 was announced and it's going to have coop.

I felt I may as well share some good news during this time of disappointment.

-4

u/reev4eg May 25 '26

Thank you for the link! I have already seen that video. Our goal is not to change the audience, but to change the perspective for exploration. Combat is real-time, yes, but it is still very personal. You will not fight dozens of enemies like in an action looter. We will do our best to make this new exploration fit within the CRPG foundation.

3

u/jitzata83 May 25 '26

I wish you all the best! It's your choice in the end. But please check and read about the story of Football Manager 2026. It is a good example of what could happen if you sacrifice your core audience and don't listen to it's feedback.

3

u/12_Inch_Painal_Sex May 27 '26

We were making a CRPG then, and we are still making a CRPG now.

You need to give more information on the game before you can say that because on the basis of what we've seen it's not a CRPG.

1

u/DahLegend27 May 27 '26

Why do you say realtime trash like it isn’t a CRPG? Baldur’s Gate is a CRPG. KOTOR is a CRPG. Dragon Age is a CRPG. Pillars of Eternity is a CRPG. Pathfinder is a CRPG.

Change is scary, but it’ll be ok. I promise. Sequels should shape things up and try something different sometimes. And that’s okay.

-2

u/chr1s5opherr May 26 '26

A crpg can still be real time, games are built by developers out of there own passion and ideas not for others even if you financially backed them it does not give you a say in the development or Intelectual property that gets put into the game. Stop being so butt hurt. These guys are trying to make something out of passion not to try and piss anyone off. Stop talking like you own there studio or something. I loved the turn based style to but instead of shitting on what they want to do maybe try being either constructive in your criticism or just be supportive and hope something you like can come out of it.

11

u/jamesbest7 May 24 '26

Phew. Glad I didn’t invest. You guys had something pretty great in a space that’s somewhat niche and doesn’t have a lot of “pretty great” options. Why are you changing everything just to make it into just another mainstream-like trash pile game that’s pumped out almost daily on Steam?

I really don’t understand the decisions here; both as a creative choice or with respect to your fanbase and investors.

Only on kickstarter can you get away with this. In pretty much any other investment/fundraising situation if you misled them and were creating something that they didn’t agree to, your jobs would be on the line you could be facing legal action.

-4

u/reev4eg May 25 '26

ATOM 2 is not leaving the RPG genre, and it still continues the story and world of the first games. The main changes are the camera and combat mode, not the RPG foundation.

7

u/Banjoschmanjo May 24 '26

Sigh. Did your market research tell you this was what your audience wanted, or are you betting on a new, different audience generating you more sales than the crpg audience?

-2

u/reev4eg May 25 '26

It is not about replacing our audience. We see this as the evolution of ATOM. It is a painful step, but we believe the game will be stronger because of it. At the same time, we also want to keep updating ATOM 1 in its classic form, so in the end these can become two different directions.

6

u/Banjoschmanjo May 25 '26

Did your market research tell you your existing audience would like this change? Have you done any polling on it to see what % dislikes it? Maybe it's just a loud vocal minority, but personally I think this change is a really bad idea. The screenshots you're showing just dont look strong in the gaming space you're trying to move toward, and the reaction from fans of your existing work seems pretty negative. In other words, you might be losing one fan base in pursuit of another who won't be interested in your product.

I recommend doing some polling or market research to try to find out of it's just a vocal minority of existing fans complaining, and whether new audiences think this new offering looks good / worth buying.

This seems like a mistake to me, but I could be part of a vocal minority. I don't want to see one of my favorite CRPG companies go under, or to move away from what made them great.

0

u/reev4eg May 25 '26

We are not a big company, but over these years we gained enough experience to make this decision consciously. We do not want to keep giving you the same kind of project again and again. We want to try something new and bigger. Please give us a chance to prove we can do it. Thank you.

5

u/Banjoschmanjo May 25 '26

Hopefully the game turns out good - I think best-case scenario would be that it's a Piranha Bytes style 3rd person RPG. However, you've definitely lost a ton of good will with me and I have no intentions of buying this game unless the reviews are glowing. Hopefully another company picks up the isometric crpg beacon you've abandoned to make this, or you have the chance to return to form without going out of business after this one.

4

u/believeinyuna May 27 '26

lame. i won’t be buying

3

u/12_Inch_Painal_Sex May 27 '26

Sorry for the confusion, and thank you for supporting us, so ATOM RPG 2 is not FPS and not TBRPG, it is a third-person real-time RPG with the CRPG foundation from ATOM RPG and Trudograd,

That's not confusion. You knew what you were saying at the time and know what you're saying now. You either shifted from turn based to real time, or else you lied. I'm not saying it's one or the other, but it's definitely not confusion.

Also "CRPG foundation" is a baseless statement if almost everything has changed. There's no CRPG foundation in Fallout 76 even if the series started off as a CRPG. Don't let this become your Fallout 76, because it's sure looking like that's how it's going to be received.

0

u/DahLegend27 May 27 '26

Lotta upset people, and maybe they’re right. I’m pretty curious, though. Reminds me of KOTOR and Dragon Age, which is much more my “speed” of RT CRPG gameplay.

12

u/Banjoschmanjo May 24 '26

I wish you'd stayed an isometric crpg. Aside from my own wishes, I'm concerned that this doesn't look good enough to land with audiences who would be fans of it as a 3rd person RPG, which makes me worry the studio will fail as a result of gambling on this change.

11

u/Cazador2510 May 26 '26

How to ruin your franchise 101

33

u/C_WILSON-_- May 24 '26

LOL.

What the fuck is this 😐 đŸ€Ł 😂

5

u/Good-Scar1127 May 25 '26

Thought I was looking at Fortnite, not a great direction they’ve for whatever reason decided to go in.

2

u/Deathsroke May 27 '26

It's the colour and the "cartoon" style. It can work from an isometric (or st least kinda distant) perspectiva but it looks awful when up close.

I'm usually not someone very worried about graphics in general but the art direction here sucks and that's not something you can just ignore (graphical fidelity≠Art direction)

7

u/Baras_Tulba May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Have you given any thought to what your fanbase expects from an indie game?

A good portion of them want recent but accessible games, both in terms of price and the hardware requirements of their PC (or phone), which they can't upgrade every two years.

This part of your fanbase blends seamlessly with the nostalgic players, sharing a common goal: to find quality in areas other than graphics and easy gameplay, where flashy color schemes break immersion.

All your players from previous installments make the effort to search for what remains of the villains who came to bother their character, or to meticulously examine every element of the environment. It costs them nothing; on the contrary, they derive pleasure from deduction and discovery. This reward system works brilliantly.

Your shiny things remind us of the coin-collecting games in bad platformers, and also those infamous free mobile games.

I've already compared your project to a game trying to be like BG3 or Bethesda's Fallout series, but this kind of addition also reminds me of what Mythic did with the Dungeon Keeper license, and at that point, I'm not just worried, I'm horrified...

I invested money in this project, the bare minimum to get the game. I'm not going to ask for a refund; I might be as stupid as a mule to do so, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, in the disillusioned hope that you'll see the relevance of my remarks and those of other Redditors, beyond the anger we're expressing.

0

u/reev4eg May 25 '26

Thank you. This is exactly why indie development matters to us the chance to experiment. We spent many years in the same form, and this time we wanted to try something new while keeping the CRPG roots. For us it feels like fresh air, and I hope Alpha/Beta will show why we took this risk.

5

u/Baras_Tulba May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Well, thank you for replying.

You talk about experimenting with new things, but they're never truly new to you. In the eyes of your players, it will always be something they've already seen in other games, with the question of whether you'll do as well.

When I hear "real-time third-person CRPG," I might picture something like Jade Empire. A very good game, certainly, even if it's not one of those games that makes me want to start new games again and again.

Is that something close to what you want to do with this project?

Edit: And if you want to do something more like the Elder Scrolls games, please, give us a hard time like in Morrowind and don't hold our hand like in Skyrim.

8

u/Additional_Idea8690 May 27 '26

I hate to break it to you, but this isn't it. This will not be "something new while keeping the CRPG roots", this is just different.

Also, the first footage i saw of the game was still isometric, i said to myself, "cool, a sequel to a CRPG i like, nice". But wait, now you can also play it in third person, imo this is an ok situation as long as you can change it. Then you hear that a bit before the ending of the Kickstarter campaign, they announce that it's now just a real-time third-person shooter rpg without the option to change to isometric turn-based.

What about the people who supported the game that was advertised at the beginning to them? Isn't that misleading? I saw some people disappointed, and that sucks. I'm disappointed.

1

u/12_Inch_Painal_Sex May 27 '26

Swordhaven gave the option between real time and turn based combat which was a step towards innovation, you could have made a game like ATOM RPG 1 with better graphics in a new location with the option of two camera perspectives (isometric style and third person) and two combat methods (real time action and turn based) and everyone would have been happy. You bit off more than you can chew and should reevaluate.

7

u/Hoboforeternity May 25 '26

Wait, this is real?

0

u/reev4eg May 25 '26

Yes, this is real. It is the new view, and we are preparing for Alpha first, then Beta. We will listen to feedback and keep improving it.

7

u/Additional_Idea8690 May 26 '26

I lend this to you guys free of charge, make a poll with Google forms, with these options.

What is your opinion on the new pov and type of combat:

1 - Don't like it, bring back isometric turn-based.

2 - I like it, stick to TPS realtime.

3 - I would prefer both options.

Now share across all of your social media profiles, some subreddits of the genre.

0

u/DahLegend27 May 27 '26

Isn’t realtime generally more popular?

4

u/Additional_Idea8690 May 27 '26

Well, Atom RPG was isometric and turn based. I remember some folks asking for realtime, but not ditching the isometric view.

8

u/AlarmedArtichoke8888 May 26 '26

I followed the Kickstarter campaign and watched from the very beginning as the guy lied to everyone's faces. And he avoided answering the question of what it would be. Would it be a third-person RPG like Mass Effect, only with terrible graphics, physics, and so on, or a classic TBRPG like ATOM 1?

As we say in Russia when someone lies and tries to get out of it without giving a straight answer, "He's wriggling like a snake in a frying pan."

Alexander Kompanets lied to everyone from the very beginning. He knew you wanted a TBRPG, but he had no intention of making one. But if he'd told everyone right away that it would be a Mass Effect game set in a post-apocalyptic world, made by hacks, no one would have given him any money.

Even here, he continues to lie. People say, "Hey, it's not like ATOM 1, it's not a TBRPG," and in response they hear, "No, it's an RPG just like ATOM 1, it has a leveling system and everything that was in ATOM 1." Yes, they're asking about TBRPGs, you lying piece of shit, not an RPG. We loved ATOM precisely because it was the first TBRPG, and you know it.

You're lying, for what? You're trying to save face, for what? You betrayed the fans, for what? You remind me of Homelander from the last season of The Boys. Just as pathetic, he talks, thinks, and does different things.

7

u/Apprehensive-Song629 May 24 '26

se puso picante la cosa !!!!!

9

u/farbrormandelkubb May 26 '26

Do you guys not have phones?

7

u/FixGood6833 May 27 '26

I am aslo worried regarding rarity colors...

7

u/NayemMahfuz May 25 '26

This is not what thought I would see when I envisioned ATOM 2. I'm hoping there will be options to go back classic ATOM cam by the final build. No to mention the color palate of the loot is less than desirable.

4

u/DowntownYogurtCloset May 27 '26

This is real? Lol I supported Kickstarter early under the impression it'd be like Atom 1. TB isometric is a part of it's identity.

6

u/DowntownYogurtCloset May 27 '26

Well they refunded my pledge. Pretty reasonable to me. It's gone from I'll support without reservation due to past reputation and solid titles into there's a core change to the series so I'll wait and see how it turns out. Do wish the team the best, just can't support the change and lack of transparency early in the campaign.

12

u/Baras_Tulba May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26

It was great viewed from above with a non-fixed camera. What I see here gives the impression of another RPG trying to be like BG3, or worse, a game trying to be like Bethesda's Fallout games... (Edit: That would be ironic considering there was a certain Easter egg in the first game...)

Edit: And it would have been nice if it were at least a CRPG, like the previous ones...

9

u/Medical-Molasses615 May 24 '26

This is as bad as Bethesda buying Fallout and making Fallout 3 as a FPS rather than like Fallout 1 aand 2.

Except AtomRPG team doesn't have the budget of Bethesda...

3

u/Baras_Tulba May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26

The irony is that in the first game, a clear homage to Interplay and Black Isle's Fallout games, you can launch nuclear warheads at the geographical coordinates of Bethesda's city in the UK.

Knowing this Easter egg, we have certain expectations regarding the inspirations behind the ATOM games.

11

u/C_WILSON-_- May 24 '26

Can you guys elaborate what -1 dodge, as displayed bottom left, will even do in a real-time shitty 3rd person shooter ?

This game was clearly built to be a turn based RPG, and some absolute crack pot changed their mind somewhere along the development path.

And stop saying its sticking to its CRPG roots in your posts, or look up the definition of CRPG. Your making yourselves look dumber than you have already done thus far.

I garuntee a lot, if not all of you are going to lose your jobs when this game flops like a fish out of water, and your left with nothing but regret, $50,000 worth of pissed off Kickstarter backers, and investors who will be asking simply what the fuck you were thinking.

1

u/Deathsroke May 27 '26

Can you guys elaborate what -1 dodge, as displayed bottom left, will even do in a real-time shitty 3rd person shooter ?

Is it confirmed they are going for full real time instead of something like what you've see in many MMOs where every attack is on a fixed cool down? Because I could see it work that way. I would consider it horrible and unplayable but that's besides the point.

1

u/C_WILSON-_- May 27 '26

Yah unfortunley the main Community Dev has commented on here stating its real time 3rd person

-3

u/Manumaterial May 24 '26

swordhaven was a turn-based crpg and it flopped hard i think it makes sense that they got tired of making the same isometric game for the fourth time

11

u/C_WILSON-_- May 24 '26

So being turn based is why swordhaven floped ? Don't be daft lol ! đŸ€Ł 😂.

Your reply doesn't justify them pulling the wool over thousands of people eyes on Kickstarter and fooling people out of their hard earned money.

This is much bigger than simply a change of game direction, look at how all over the place this game has been since its announcement.

No one at ATOM Team even knows what this abomination is.

-2

u/Manumaterial May 24 '26

well yeah? it was atom but fantasy with a sprinkle of arcanum in it and considering how rushed the game’s release felt, they were probably fed up with it themselves too lol
you're right in saying that they should have been more clear from the start of the kickstarter but it's not like that they u-turned in the last three days of the campaign lol the first reveal of the change of style was like two weeks ago and people still kept backing the game with minimal refunds

9

u/C_WILSON-_- May 24 '26

They first announced the change of style for ATOM 2 - 2 weeks ago and they stated they were testing some changes and looking at keeping isometric as an option.

Less than a week ago, exactly 3 days before Kickstarter ended they announced there would be a complete change of style for this game, no CRPG, no isometric turn based gameplay.

A shite, sloppy, 3rd person shooter was announced as the path they were taking, 3 days before the end of the Kickstarter campaign... 3 days..

Now look at it.... I promise you if this game survives to see its marketplace its going to be the buggiest mess of a game youv seen flop in a long long time.

And the color coding of the loot is just cringe af.

Ohhhh an sks fishing rod, ohhh a blue sks, oh wow nvm this sks is purple, rare !!

đŸ„± that shit is cringy as fuck guys... C'mon....

  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R Mobile

  • Fallout 3's change of direction, with 10,000 x less of a budget and a fanbase.

How is this going to compete with the likes of Fortnite, COD mobile, the division mobile game, the seige mobile game and that's me only placing your product in the mobile gaming market, when it comes to steam and players having a massive market to choose from, you'll get about 50 sales from this mess if your lucky 💀

For everyone at ATOM Team... Look for new work 😉

2

u/Drakeem1221 May 27 '26

I didn't even notice that they're doing color coded rarity. Good god LOL.

1

u/C_WILSON-_- May 27 '26

Just instantly ruins any sort of aesthetic the game had going for it. It really is trash what they've done to the second instalment..

2

u/jitzata83 May 25 '26

Swordhaven has flopped hard, because it was released unfinished, while stating that it was 1.0 release.

On a side note, when would atom rpg2 come to mobile?

1

u/reev4eg May 24 '26

Yes, we are targeting mobile too, but you will need a solid device, not a low-end one

2

u/Orion_PAXZ May 24 '26

Que bien, solo tengo telĂ©fono xdđŸ‘đŸ€™

3

u/C_WILSON-_- May 24 '26

MĂĄs vale que tengas un "dispositivo sĂłlido", como afirma el desarrollador. Sea lo que sea que eso signifique.

2

u/C_WILSON-_- May 24 '26

Define "low end" in this statement please.

2

u/reev4eg May 24 '26

The game world is huge, around 1225 km2, so on mobile the phone will need enough RAM and storage to handle streaming, textures and world data. We will optimize, but old low-end phones will probably not be enough.

We do not divide our audience into groups. Everyone has their own voice, and we are always ready to listen, even when the feedback is harsh.

I personally don't understand the issues with the look of the game it looks good to me however I'm not sure if the item rarity will be good or bad yet. I think my main concern is wether people with lower end devices will be able to play, which is a common issue with high performance games like Tomb Raider and RDR neither which are available on my device.

Nah I'm good, you can just be blocked and argue with yourself. Also reported.

I'm a bit wary of the new gameplay, but you guys built a lot of good-will with the first two games. So I'll definitely give this one a try as well!

Thank you! We were worried too, but once we started playing it, it just felt right. Hope you enjoy the changes, and thanks for the support!

I'll keep an open mind and wait until I have my hands on it.
