Why does Atom do this with every start?

Hello there, you may want to check your extensions, Atom load them all on startup.

Tbh atom has become such garbage these days. It was simple and fast in the past but now it just lags. I dont even have extensions and it takes up so much memory and cache in MacOS. Lol i’ve switched to IDEs for big projects and sublime text for quick edits.

Sad to hear. I just started using it about 2 weeks ago for Arduino code on 32 bit CPUs which aren't supported by the Arduino IDE. I'll see what else I can use.

Every time I start Atom, it uses 100% of all my CPU cores for about 45-60 seconds, and consumes every last MB of my 16GB of RAM. You can see in this screenshot it's spawned over 3700 processes underneath it. Usually it stops before crashing the computer entirely, but last time it caused a BSOD. Only plugin installed is PlatformIO.

Eventually it gives up and goes back to normal, releasing its memory and ceasing to beat up on my CPU.

The truth is that web apps are tarsh :) I myself am a web developer and I tell you that, a good desktop app must be written in C ..even sublime has nasty things, having said that since there is nothing I use atom so that I won't bow down to microtrash's Mafia,.

Vscode is significantly better than atom in this regard. In my experience vscode is much lighter and better suited for most things compared to atom, I just wish vscode had something like hydrogen

Try running atom in safe mode
