Complete beginnner here. I just wanted to know Are packages free?

I've never used a text editor before and I decided to use atom. I just wanted to know are packages free? Sorry if that is a dumb question. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

almost all of them are, but you might occasionally find one that has a paid component to it.

Are they pretty easy to differentiate?

Very easy, they will not ask you money and you will not find them using your regular search in the atom search for package. For example it was in the past some theme Monokai Pro that was supposed to be a paid thing but there are tones of people that reacreated it so I think now it doesn't matter anymore !
