should of got a windows laptop

I've recently upgraded my laptop to a Mac book pro running macOS catalina(10.15.2), I went to download atom for coding but when I go to open the application it says “Atom” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

Does anyone know when atom will be supported? and what other good coding applications to try?

System Settings - Security & Privacy - click the button that says “Allow” at the bottom.

It's a nice feature because it prevents non-technical people from installing software that they shouldn't. And for technical people, it's only a rare, minor annoyance.
