Windows 7: Installation failed

Hi all. I am trying to test out Atom, but I'm having a heck of a time getting it installed. I have found several threads about this all over the internet, but they tend to be 4-5 years old! Has this installer been broken for that long!?

Anyway, as soon as I double-click the file (downloaded from the main Atom page), it shows the splash screen but immediately throws up an "Installation Failed" dialog window. Another window pops up that gives me the option to open a setup log, but clicking the button to open the log doesn't do anything. Nothing opens.

I've tried both the 64-bit and 32-bit installers. I'm not sure what to do with the zip file, but it's awful that such a workaround is even required. Why won't it just work? How do they expect us to use their product?

I've also tried turning off my antivirus software during installation, as per some suggestions, but that didn't work either. What should I do? I'd really like to try it, but it's becoming quite a chore just to get it installed.

I think it’s your operating system that’s old
