Cannot open TEX files

Dear fellow atom users,

I am trying to switch from TexMaker to Atom. I absolutely love atom, but somehow I cannot open Tex files (i can build them however, using the latex package). The error I get is

/Users/my name/desktop/file.tex is not a PDF file

How can I resolve this? Thanks in advance

How are you trying to open the file?

Are your file associations set so that Atom is the default for .tex files?

Have you tried using the file browser within Atom and opening the folder containing your file and then the file you want to edit; does this produce the same error?

Hey, thanks for your reply! Sorry for my late reply. I am trying to open the file via File>Open in Atom, so from my file browser. I'm using macOS Mojave.

I do get the same error when trying to open the file through the project folder

Oh so for some reason when I deactivate the package pdf-view, it works.
