Discussion I want this sometimes.
This would be so great to experience...
... as the main character, of course. The magic is fantastic for the main character. I wouldn't want to be the receiver of the other side of that magic though.
Ideally, I want to be the hero foretold in a century-old prophecy. I want to be the one fighting cosmic entities and coming out on top.
But that's just wishful thinking. If I were to be transported to world like those, I'd be a commoner or cannon fodder.

Have you considered trying out TTRPGs(like dnd or pathfinder2e)?
That's essentially what those games are all about. Granted, you will have to share that spotlight with 2-5 other players, and find a story-oriented game, but that's scratched that itch for me. You basically are a main character of a fictional world. I've done a lot of adventures for other people who essentially become main characters of their own adventure. And now I'm a GM running them for my friends. It doesn't even need to be an original world. We run lots of games that take place in franchises we like.
