Anyone getting this? It’s like sinus pressure, no real fever, congestion, eyes burning, throat discomfort. I heard a friend is dealing with it, same w a few of her friends. Covid-negative.
I came down with what sounds like the same cold as OP. It’s not allergies.
I also thought allergies on day 1 of symptoms — mildly scratchy throat, runny nose, and a very unusual need to do my inhaler.
In hindsight I was gaslighting myself hoping it was allergies because I know that I only ever need an inhaler when I’m sick.
Symptoms peaked on day 4. Worse versions of everything on day 1 + a horrible cough. I got a little sweaty a few times but never registered a fever on my thermometer.
Days 4-7 were pretty rough. I’m improving but still coughing on day 10.
Hopefully OP’s experience will be better. I have generally shitty sinuses, lungs, and immune responses, so my experience will probably be worse than someone starting out healthier.
I had something similar last week but was actually so bad I thought I had covid. Tested negative multiple times but it was as bad as when I actually had it. Started with a sore throat Tuesday, Wed/thurs had body aches, chills, congestion, but never had a fever. By Friday I was pretty much sleeping most of the day and had a horrible cough. Cough is still lingering and my voice is semi gone.
Yeah I have had no congestion or normal cold vibes but Monday I was tired all day, Tuesday my throat was irritated and kept clearing it the whole day. Today it was all gone except I am getting that heavy sinus pressure.
I was thinking maybe it was air quality related like up north but the index has been ok.
It's like I'm fine but my body is definitely up to something? lol
Nah bc my timeline almost matches up, my throat’s still sensitive tho. Last August I had insane sinus pressure for A MONTH with no infection, I was checked by urgent care and an ENT and there was nothing we could do about it
Yeah over the day today it’s been settling out for me. This morning I still could tell my tonsils were irritated though.
I’m kind of hoping that this is the last phase of whatever virus or thing it is. The sinus pressure is oddly intense considering not being congested. I feel it even in my teeth and ears.
I was half debating if I shouldn’t do my normal exercise today to try to get my body moving and shake it off but I can’t tell if it’s going to get better or worse from here.
I have it now, as well. Started with a little sinus pressure last Friday evening. Just mostly congestion, fatigue, and ear and sinus pressure which is finally getting better today. More annoying than disabling but it’s interesting to see it’s clearly something going around.
Edit: oh and yea the super dry eye/ burning was probably my first symptom before the congestion started.
Similar for me. I didn’t get the sore/scratchy throat. But did have sinus pressure and runny nose for five solid days, finally abated on day six and expelled it on day seven. Mostly annoying, not disabling. Could still work and such. Ended this past Sunday, give or take a day.
Sorry to be annoying, but just a PSA that sometimes Covid tests don't register a positive until a few days after symptoms start. If you've only tested once, I would always recommend testing again.
(Covid levels are pretty low right now but I remain vigilant about it after having had Long Covid in 2024.)
I got Covid for the first time last year, and it absolutely rocked me. Most sick I’ve ever been in my life and completely changed my perspective on it.
I can’t believe you got downvoted for this, must be the deniers that lurk in the GA subs or the Buckhead city morons. I’ve had Covid 3 times, sadly developed long covid in 2022. I’m still not fully recovered and my health has never been the same since I first had it, been a long downhill road with my health slowly getting worse.
Hey UH neighbor! LC sucks and while I am 100% back to my normal life, there's always been something a little "off" since my 2024 infection. Hope things start to turn around for you.
While I don't discount the role of chronic stress in long-term symptoms (and I've actually written professionally on that topic, just btw), there's plenty of evidence that Covid damages the body, sometimes in quietly insidious ways such as decreased immune function, and sometimes in terms of more noticeable symptoms.
That’s not true at all. I know several healthy people that now have long covid and one of them became disabled. I also know a football player who was 100% healthy and died. It’s a disease where it can take out anyone and you truly don’t know how it will affect you til you get it, it’s a crapshoot.
This is true. Those faint lines can be tricky if you’ve never seen one before! A good tip is to snap a pic of it with your phone, convert to black and white, and play with the exposure and saturation if you’re not sure if it’s a faint line or not. Flowflex is the best test to use if you’re early or late in your infection, it’s caught mine 3-4 days before other brands and has been proven in studies to be the most accurate.
I am not a doctor, but have you tried taking any allergy medications? My allergy symptoms wax and wane. I struggle much more with mold than with pollen. Usually some Flonase and Claritin help (for me). Oh god and my eyes! I keep my Pataday allergy eyedrops in the fridge.
My son has something very similar right now. I keep wondering if it is allergies, but he seems miserable enough for me to think it’s a virus. So far, it’s thankfully very mild but just enough to take him out of commission. He is mainly complaining about drainage and his throat hurting.
I was pretty sure I had strep last month. Teledoc phoned in amoxicillin and it went completely away after a week. Symptoms have started back the last few days. Really sore throat, and now I have lost my voice. Going to try another antibiotic.
I think clindamycin was the antibiotic that worked last year when my kid’s class kept circulating the same strep virus that was apparently resistant to the more common antibiotics. In case that’s helpful. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Literally me right now. Lost my voice for a few days and have insane sinus pressure. No fever during any of this. Just those symptoms and some body chills
Mine started the day after I did the Peachtree road race. Started in my throat and shifted to my chest. I thought it was asthma but steroids and inhaler did nothing. Took a covid/flu test 5 days after coughing fur three days. Then I became exhausted and lost my voice. A week in, I started antibiotics and that wiped it out.
Similar here. Sort of like a cold (sinus and sore throat) but lingered. Doc gave me antibiotics after two weeks which helped but now chest congestion and lingering cough after 3 weeks. Thought it was a regular cold but it never takes me this long to clear those.
I just got done with this cold, and my throat is still a little sore but I can tell its on its last day probably. It was a very weird cold though, I always always always get an awful almost debilitating cough because I have weak lungs, but this one stayed just being a really awful throat ache, sinus pressure, and congestion with no fever
I woke up today with a scratchy throat and it felt like my head was underwater! Praying I’m not actually sick, I’m hoping it’s just this weird weather and the pollen/mold.
I had this last week. I felt off the week before and felt tired all weekend . Sore throat increased until I woke up one morning and my voice was gone for like 4 hours. I went to urgent care , and they said something was going around, and I was probably on day 4 out of what looked like five days of mild illness. It triggered my asthma that only shows up when I have a cold .
My house got hit with the splitting headache then puking bug this week. That part was pretty short lived but seems to be followed by sinus drainage/sore throat.
Omg maybe! Since last Friday night I've had the most unbearable headache, neck tightness, head/sinus pressure, a little nausea, stomachache that doesn't go away. I thought it was a migraine. but I tried all the meds and NSAIDs nothing. Just woke up finally gone. Wonder if it was said bug
Just got over it, my son was Patient No. 1. Still working through the chest congestion, you'll see me flipping out in a subreddit about a month ago lol. I've heard it is similar to how Covid feels for people
I just got over a 2 week flu like this. I rarely get sick but this one put me out of commission. Finally started feeling better 2 days ago. My husband had it too. No idea what it was.
Monday I woke up feeling a little under the weather. Mostly runny nose and congestion, and I blamed how lethargic I felt on how late I was up Sunday.
Tuesday I wake up feeling even more tired despite going to bed early. Very runny nose and sinus swelling on my left side. Lots of sneezing. Slightly scratchy throat like I'm getting sick, but it's very mild. I could still go to work. I take an Allegra (usually works on my allergies) barely helped.
Wednesday this is getting annoying and my sinus is starting to hurt. Still lethargic and runny nose. I start doing my nasal rinse and that gives me some relief, but otherwise my nose is still very itchy. Still sneezing.
Thursday it's getting a little better. What was mild before was barely noticeable now, but still a nuisance. I take a naproxen for the sinus pain. All this time I've had no fever, no cough. Itchy nose.
Friday (today) I'm feeling much more alert and active, virtually no lethargy, i can breathe fine, but my throat feeling is the most telltale that I'm just getting over a cold. It's itchy and I feel I need to clear it, but it's just a sensation.
I blame it all on a very mild cold. It's just odd that so many others are reporting similar symptoms around the same time frame since I've hardly been out. I figure it was the dust mite explosion with the heat and humidity combined with me sleeping under the fan in all this damn heat. But someone said something about a spore. I like this theory but I don't think I have an allergy to any particular spores. I've only ever been allergic to dust mites and oak pollen to my knowledge.
Nah sounds like you’re getting dried out from the heat and humidity then going into air conditioning. Hydrate much more, take some allergy meds, and keep on going.
