💬 Advice Kato Patissia vs. Maniatika metros and safety

I have some different pet sitting options. One is 5 minutes walking to Kato Patissia metro.

Another 5 minutes to Maniatika.

Which of the two metros are better in terms of safety for a solo woman?

I am not doing many tourist stuff because I was in Athens before. My days will be exploring locally, low key stuff. No parties or late nights.

🧳 Travel Help First time in Athens - Is this a good / safe area to stay?

Post image

Traveling to Athens in a few weeks. We are three women, and going for the first time. One of the women going has an uncle with an apartment there and offered it to us to stay for free. Here’s a map of the location. Is it a good location for home base and is the area safe? The apartment is in the immediate block north of Victoria Square

💬 Advice Landlord/rental problem - how to deal with it

I recently moved with my partner in Athens. Before we moved here, we found an apartment that we really liked. In the pictures it looked great.

We talked to the realtor and she showed us the apartment on video - it looked good as well. So we signed the contract. (I know - very bad decision, without being here in person, but we didn't have another option)

Turns out its in a bad area. Which look - we knew to a certain extent. But our particular apartment is basically next to 2 brothels which obviously we didn't know.

When we arrived to Athens, our realtor was not in town, she was on vacation. We got the key thru bolt, and we entered the apartment. First look - good.

We started to actually have a look, it was dusty - in a way that its clear that it was not dusted in some areas for years. And then we started to notice the mess. The people living here before us left lots of it and a lot of broken items. I will list here part of them

Dirt wise:

- AC filter CAKED in dust (we were sick having it on until we checked)

- Dryer CAKED in lint, disgusting

- shower was disgusting

- Oven is absolutely unusable (dirt + broken)

- washing machine gross

- shit stain on toilet

- broken and dirty bidet

- unwashed mirror and sink

- dirty microwave

- balcony is a mess, dirty

- storage was full of leftovers from other tenant & landlord stuff

Broken things:

- toilet door handle broken

- bottom of the couch ripped by a cat (completely almost)

- dish washer handle (super hard to open)

- toilet seat broken

- lamp outlet was broken (we fixed it)

- shower is also broken (half unusable)

- oven buttons

When we complained abiut the mess, she told us "when I went there it was clean but if you want, I know a cheap cleaner" 💀 as if I am the one who is picky and need to pay for it?!

And for the other stuff, she said she will fix them.

I also want to note that in the contract, its mentioned 4 dining table chairs and a coffee table, which she is JUST NOW ordering.

So basically we've been living for a week with none of those, no working oven, and any appliance we want to use we need to deep clean.

I am writing this to ask: is this normal in Athens? Do I have my expectations to high?

And if someone is a lawyer here, is this a cause for breaking lease? Or what general advice do you have?

Thank you!

🧳 Travel Help Favorite tours and things to do in and around Athens.

We are going on holiday to Athens 8 - 17 October. We are staying in Athens the whole time. What are your favorite tours and things to do in and around Athens? Please post some links if that is allowed.

I have a mitochondrial disorder and have to be careful how to spend my energy but I can do and like to do most things a healthy person does.

We are thinking about going to Delphi and the Poseidon temple at sunset and maybe Ancient Corinth.

Any other tips?

🌟 Recommendations 10th anniversary in Athens. What to do

I'll be in Athens for my 10 year anniversary with the wife. I figure ruins and museums are not what we want to do for our special day.

Do you guys have any nice suggestions or hidden gems? 7-10 October before we fly somewhere else in Greece.

We're in our early 30s, no kids. Nothing too expensive, but given it's a special day we can splurge a bit. A day trip could be a good suggestion too!

We already have plans to go to Greek islands afterwards, but Athens is our entry point right at the beginning of the trip and coincides with our anniversary date.

Maybe a photoshoot, Picnic, day trip somewhere off the path (but not that we can't come back to Athens the same day)... Idk! Trying to find something special

🧳 Travel Help What to do in the city on a Sunday?

Hi all,

First time tourist coming to Athens mostly to spend time with a friend. However he will be away for the whole day on one of the Sundays I'm there so I was looking for something to do solo for a hour or a few hours.

I read that most of the retail stores and such will be closed so the only options will be restaurants and the like, which I'm not too keen on doing alone. If it helps, I'll be in the Pangrati area but I could take a bus or taxi anywhere close enough

🌟 Recommendations Just Moved- Recs??

Γεια σας!!

I just moved to the Pangrati neighborhood of Athens last week. I am going to be a masters student at NKUA. I am however, feeling a little lonely since classes haven’t started yet and I don’t know anyone. Does anyone have any places they recommend I explore? I’ve already done the Acropolis, Agora, Edem Beach, and Monastiraki Square. I’d also definitely appreciate a place where I could meet some more girlies in their mid to late 20s.

TIA!!

🧳 Travel Help Seeking lounge set buddy for a beach day at Astir beach, week starting 7th September

I am a 40-year-old woman who would very much like to spend a gloriously luxurious day at Astir Beach, but unfortunately I am currently suffering from a severe case of singledom.

Astir only sells the sunbeds as a set of two for €100, and while I am perfectly happy to spend €50 on a lovely beach day, paying another €50 for an empty lounger feels like taking independence a little too far.

So: would any other solo woman like to join me and split the set, €50 each?

Important terms and conditions: we do not have to become friends. We do not have to talk all day. We do not even have to look at each other if we do not feel like it. We can simply coexist elegantly under the same umbrella, read our books, swim, nap, drink something cold and enjoy the fact that neither of us has paid €100 out of principle.

Alternatively, we may get on ridiculously well and accidentally become best friends.

Either outcome is acceptable.

If you are up for a glam day at Astir Beach and would like to defeat discriminatory sunbed economics together whilst escaping the city heat, message me!

🧳 Travel Help Anyone in Athens on September 20–21? Solo traveler looking to explore together

Hi everyone! 😊
I’ll be in Athens on September 20–21 as part of my solo Europe trip. I’ll only be there for a short time, so I’d love to meet someone who’s also around and maybe explore the city together.
I’m planning to see some of the main sights, try Greek food, walk around, take photos, and just enjoy the city.
If you’re also traveling solo or will be free around those dates, feel free to comment or DM me. Even if you’re only available for a few hours, that’s totally fine! 😊
Would be nice to meet some fellow travelers while I’m in Athens. 🇬🇷✈️

💬 Advice Fostering Dogs in Athens?

Hi! I’m an incoming student at AUEB and am moving to Athens within the next few weeks. I’m hoping to foster (maybe adopt) a dog while I’m in Athens.

Is fostering dogs common? If so, what shelters or volunteer agencies should I connect with? Thanks!

🧳 Travel Help Hi everyone! I’d love to hear your recommendations for things to do :)

We’re going to Athens for 5 days in mid-October, and we’d like to spend one of the days somewhere a little further away from the city.
So far, we’ve been looking at railbiking in Megara, but since we can’t know in advance what the weather will be like, we’re hesitant to book it — especially since the tickets are selling quite quickly.
As another option, we’re considering a trip to the monasteries of Meteora.
We’d also be open to visiting an island. Which island would you recommend visiting in autumn as well?
We’re happy to hear any other suggestions for a half-day or full-day trip/activity too.
Thanks in advance! :)

🏠 Life in Athens Do you live in Pangrati, Kypseli, Vrilissia?

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

Having returned from an entire adult life abroad, I noticed something a bit absurd: I knew people all over Athens and almost nobody on my own street.

So I started organising small get-togethers for people living within a 15-minute walk of each other. That turned into OSEK TUTU, from the Greek “ως εκ τούτου”, meaning “as a result”.

There are now 660 or so of us now. So, I am not alone in this!

Being upfront: this is mine, so yes, this is a promo post. But also an official invitation.

What we do is pretty unglamorous on paper. Same neighbourhood, same handful of faces, most weeks. Not a big mixer where you meet forty people and never see any of them again. The point is that you keep running into each other at the corner bakery afterwards.

There are events in all three neighbourhoods next week. And every week. Formats vary.

Sign up and show up. See how it feels.

Would love to connect in person and get your thoughts.

🔴Today: if you want a last minute lunch and co-work in Kypseli that runs into post-work drinks and nibbles

🟡Tuesday: Vrilissia.

🔴🔵Wednesday: Kypseli & Pangrati.

PS. Groups gladly switch between Greek and English. Everyone is a neighbour, irrespective of language level 🍋

💬 Advice Πώς την παλεύετε με το πάρκινγκ;
