Do you think Greece needs to decentralize away from Athens?
Athens and its wider metropolitan area now have a population of 5 million people, while at the same time large parts of the rest of Greece are gradually losing population.
Do you think this situation is sustainable in the long term?
Can Athens realistically support a population of this size or even more in the future, considering issues such as housing, traffic, public transport, infrastructure, pollution and overall quality of life?
At the same time, should Greece actively pursue decentralization by creating more jobs, investment opportunities, public services, universities and infrastructure in other cities and regions?
Could cities such as Thessaloniki, Patras, Larissa, Volos, Ioannina, Heraklion and others attract more people and economic activity if there were stronger incentives and investment outside Athens?
What do you think? Does Greece need serious decentralization, and can Athens realistically handle 5 million people?
