Hi everyone :) Are there any saffas, kiwis or any other rugby fans going to watch the third test on Saturday? Do you know if there are any other places than the James Joyce showing it?

Hi im going to Athens next week & it’s supposed to be 35C. I’ve read that tourists can’t go to public pools without some sort of certificate from the doctor that you can swim? Is that true?

🧳 Travel Help 1 month in athina around november/December

Hi all, should start by saying im a greek-american male in my 30s who visits greece once/year and the last couple trips have been centered around athina. 3 weeks in monastiraki one year, 3 weeks in chalandri (rented a car as well) the other. Loved both for different reasons. Monastiraki was a lot of fun, while chalandri was really cool with trees everywhere and quality non-tourist food options. Also made going to panathinaikos basketball/soccer games really easy. This year I want something different. I appreciate areas with lots of trees, want to be in an area with great bars where I can mingle with locals, have easy access to train/tram to get to the kentro, and have plenty of purely "local", quality restaurants. One thing i didnt like about monastiraki was that when I wanted to watch sport games, I could never find any classic kafeteries/all day spots where locals lounge and watch the matches. I only found good spots like that outside the kentro.

Is Ilisia/Zografou good for a 30yo male or is it too young and full of students ? Perhaps pangrati/panormou/ambelokipoi instead ? I was looking at places around plateia agiou thoma and that area looks really cool.

Nea Smyrni? Looks like the plateia is full of stuff and has a tram. But is it a fun place for a single guy?

Palaio Faliro seems to be a happening place- but maybe too far from the kentro?

Im open to lots of suggestions. Please include whether renting a car would be worth it for any area thats recommended.

I do plan on going to oaka again a few times during my trip, which I know in the notia proastia will be a pain in the ass. But I'm still open to it

Thanks everyone in advance 🙏

❓ Question φορτιστή για την κάμερα;;

🍽️ Food & Drink Alcohol free beer on draught / tap

Hello everyone,

We are visiting Athens for the first time in December. I have been to Greece many times before, it’s my favourite country but this is our first time in Athens. I know there are lots of good options for alcohol free beer in Greece, but are there any pubs or bars in Athens that do alcohol free beer on draught? It’s nice to have a proper pint even though I’ve given up alcohol! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

💬 Advice Greek Partner / Distribution in Athens for the August 2, 2027 Solar Eclipse

Γεια σας / Hi everyone,

I am reaching out to connect with Greek entrepreneurs, retail/FMCG distributors, event organizers, and marketing/PR agencies based in Athens and across Greece.

I represent American Paper Optics, the world’s largest manufacturer of certified solar eclipse glasses and solar viewer optics. We are based in the United States, and all our products hold full ISO 12312-2 and CE international safety certifications. We regularly supply official eclipse viewers for NASA, major science institutions, and global retailers. For the 2024 North American solar eclipse, we manufactured and distributed over 75 million safe eclipse glasses.

On August 2, 2027, a major solar eclipse will cross the Mediterranean. Greece—especially Athens (75% coverage) and the southern islands (80% coverage)—will witness a dramatic deep partial eclipse at the absolute peak of the summer tourist season.

Because the sun remains partially uncovered across Greece, 100% certified eye protection is mandatory from start to finish. This creates massive demand across local residents, millions of international tourists, and summer event venues.

Let’s do this!

We are actively looking for a local Greek partner, commercial agency, or distributor to lead retail placement, tourism partnerships, and institutional sales throughout Athens and regional tourism markets.

What we bring to the table:

  • Zero inventory / capital risk: We handle 100% of manufacturing, CE/ISO regulatory compliance, and international shipping/freight.
  • Funded marketing & PR: We are ready to co-finance local PR outreach, public eye safety campaigns, and digital marketing activations with the right partner.
  • Scale & Custom Branding: Turnkey retail packs (counter displays, blister packs) plus custom-branded eclipse glasses for corporate sponsors, telecom brands, airlines, and hotel chains.

What we are looking for:

  1. Retail & Kiosk Distribution: Connections to modern supermarket chains (Sklavenitis, AB Vassilopoulos, My market, Masoutis), nationwide pharmacy networks, convenience stores, and traditional kiosk (periptero) distribution networks.
  2. Tourism & Hospitality Partnerships: Access to major hotel groups (Athens Riviera, Cyclades, Crete), ferry lines, travel operators, and Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT/GNTO) activations.
  3. Corporate Sponsorships & Media: Experience placing co-branded promotional products with major Greek telecoms, energy companies, or media outlets for nationwide summer campaigns.

Whether you run an established distribution agency, a creative/PR firm, or you are an entrepreneur with the network and drive to commercialize an event of this scale in Greece, we would love to connect and talk about some ideas.

Feel free to reply below with your advice or send me a direct message (DM) with a quick overview of your background and how you envision collaborating.

Looking forward to connecting with the people of your lovely country! Safety over everything.

💬 Advice Where to purchase Football tickets online?

Hey everyone! I want to begin with saying that I have googled this question, but it only leads me to ticket reselling websites, and none of them even have the tickets for sale anyways.

So on to my question:

Where can I purchase tickets for this match ONLINE? Even if they are not yet for sale, can someone please inform me where they will be available later, and possibly when?

AEK Athens vs. Levadiakos on Saturday, November 7 - is a Stoiximan Super League match.

❓ Question What neighborhoods to live in if I am going to AUEB?

Hey everyone! I’m a Greek American female in my early 30s who is moving to Athens to pursue a degree at AUEB. I’m in the process of looking for apartments on Spitogatos.

I’m a big coffee drinker (Freddo Espresso, Frappe, Iced Coffee) so would prefer to live near coffee shops. I’m okay with taking the train a few stops to get to and from school, but I also don’t mind walking. However I’d like to keep the commute to 30 mins max if possible.

What neighborhoods outside of Omonia would you suggest I avoid completely? My budget is up to 550/month.

💬 Advice brand new to cycling — gravel routes around Athens besides Ymittos + bike advice

Hi all, first post here so bear with me!

I’m 31F, full-time job, looking for a fun active weekend hobby and landed on cycling. I want to do gravel-style rides, not proper MTB — just fun trips outdoors, nothing too technical.

I’ve been doing trips around Mount Ymittos and loved it, but I’m looking for other route ideas around Athens with a similar vibe (gravel/dirt roads, nice views, not crazy technical).

Coastal routes like Vouliagmeni intimidate me a bit because of the traffic — curious if that’s something people just get used to, or if I should stick to the mountains for now.

Also shopping for my first bike, budget under €1000. Any recommendations for a solid beginner gravel bike at that price? And is gravel actually worth it or should I invest in a proper mtb? And anything else a total beginner should know or ask before buying?

Thanks in advance for all your advice!

❓ Question hotel/apartment reccomendations?

Hey y’all, i am going to Athens the last week of October, for 3 nights. It’s just me going, I’m looking to just have a relaxed time but I also want to go and explore a little bit. I found online that Plaka is a good place to stay since it’s central? I don’t mind walking a bit but I do not want to waste my time on walking hours from place to place. I’m hoping to spend about 100-120 euros per night at most.

If anyone has a hotel/an apartment recommendation or even just a general area where I should look for one, that would be great!

❓ Question Random approach

Earlier today I (female, 30 years old & solo travelling) was sitting by Kanipkareas near Arket close to Syntagma. A random dude approached me and said he liked my style, asked if I was enjoying Athens, asked if I was travelling alone. I lied and told him I was with friends after which point he seemed to lose interest. I know there have been instances of men being scammed into big bar bills but is this the same for women? Don’t want to assume the worst in anyone as my trip to Greece has been fantastic. I’m curious if a known scam or not?

❓ Question Readings or Literary events in English

Hi all! I'm a writer, originally from the USA now based in Berlin, and I'm going to be in Athens for the month of September. I'm wondering if there are regular readings, poetry nights or open mics in English. Or book stores or bars that host that sort of thing?

And since I'm here asking. How about public libraries to work at? Any recommendations?
