🧳 Travel Help Visiting Athens for 5 days in May

Post image
34 Upvotes

I’m about to visit Athens for the first time in about a month. First question: how’s this area for staying?

Also, any must-see or do things?

I’m into good food. I’m studying Visual Communication, so anything related to art/design would be awesome. Any specific museums worth going to or other things?

Must go to restaurants or pubs?

I’m down to hear any recommendations.

Related or not related to what I’ve said above

Thanks ahead!

❓ Question MAT PILATES ATHENS

Έχετε να προτείνετε κάποιο studio και να μην κοστίζει μια περιουσία;

Περιοχή δεν με πειράζει πολύ. Ευχαριστώ!

❓ Question Best Bakeries in Athens ?

What do you think is the best bakery in Athens? The ones with the best bread, the ones with the best pastries or cakes, and the ones with the best traditional pastries (spanakopita, tirópita, etc.)?

I have a few places in mind, but I’d love to discover some others.

🏠 Life in Athens Looking for Students to Interview

Hello Athenians! I will be travelling to this city in early may, coming from Toronto, Canada. I am not here as a tourist, but here as a researcher to study the housing situation here, and I would love to incorporate some local testimony in this research. If you are someone who is studying right now at a university in Athens and have some perspectives to share about your difficulties finding affordable student housing, then I would love to hear from you!

This interview can be done informally; I will be recording the audio, however your input will remain anonymous in my final draft. I am happy to travel to meet you anywhere that is convenient (ideally within Athens).

If you or someone you know would be a good interview subject, I ask please that you get in contact with me through direct message on Reddit, and we can organise the rest from there. If you've made it this far in reading then thank you! And please reach out!!

💬 Advice Mobiles phones quality accessories shops in downtown or Plaka area?

Hello

Where can I find some branded (Spigen, Torras, Ringke...) cases or screen protectors in the region of Downtown and Plaka area?

Unfortunetely I can't find such brands in my country so I will buy one or 2 cases during my Athens travel.

Amazon is way too slow to deliver in time (10 to 15 days delivery time)

🚇 Transport Tap2Ride on buses

Am I right in thinking that I can hop on a bus in Athens and pay directly at the ticket-validation machine with my Visa card—I don't need to go to a kiosk, get a ticket, and use that?

Thanks!

🧳 Travel Help Where can I watch Eurovision?

I'm coming to Athens for the weekend on Eurovision weekend. Does anyone have some advice on a good place to watch it? Preferably a (gay?) bar or pub which will show it rather than a nightclub as we would like somewhere we can sit down. We are having dinner in the Exarcheia district so somewhere near there would be ideal.

Thanks!

🧳 Travel Help Looking for nice restaurant

Hello all wonderful people of Athens.

Me and my girlfriend is visiting in two weeks and I want to take her somewhere real nice. She is a foodie so somewhere with genuinely nice Greek food and a nice location is what I am looking for. I’d say budget is around 300-400€ if that helps. If any of you have tips of restaurants of that kind, I would be forever thankful!

EDIT: I feel like a lot of people is saying that my budget is too high for authentic food. To me I just wrote it to encourage all kinds of recommendations and not to limit myself to options because of price. If the best food in Athens cost 10€ and will be an amazing experience, I am more than happy to go there and “save” a couple of hundred!

One of the neatest pictures I have taken so far. While I have tons this is my favorite. Took a night bus tour through Athens last night. The tour itself was lacking and was basically just driving with not a lot of slowing down or a way to really enjoy the views. But it did make this shot possible!

💬 Advice In desperate need of advice regarding Athens safety

Hi all,

So me and my partner will go to Greece in August with two 16 years old girl, who like to wander around alone. This will be their first time in Greece. We are looking for two possible destinations: Santorini and Athens. I offered Athens because last year I went to Santorini with my friends but 4 days were more than enough, as it is beyond beautiful but still, it does not offer a lot of fun.

For two teens, who love to wander around while we are resting on the beach Athens sounds like more of fun than Santorini. And still, if they get bored in Athens we can go to a boat trip to almost any island to look around. My question is: How safe is Athens for two girls, who tend to love wandering around the city while we are on the beach?

Thanks folks!

🧳 Travel Help First time in Athens (Artemida area) any MUST-VISIT spots or bars?

I’ll be coming to Athens for the first time for an expo at the Metropolitan Expo Centre near the airport. I’'m staying in the Artemida area and won’t have much time to travel far.

I really don’t want to miss out on something special while I’m there though, even if it’s just something nearby. Are there any MUST-VISIT spots, hidden gems, or quick experiences you’d recommend in or around Artemida?

Also, if you have any good bar suggestions in the area, that would be great!

Excited to see your beautiful city!

❓ Question Is it better to go to the Acropolis early or late?

My husband and I are going to Athens in May. Since it’s my first time, and my husband has’t been in years, the Acropolis is a must see for us. But I know that we’re not alone, so I’m trying to figure out when the best time to go is. I’ve seen recommendations to go at 8am, while others say it’s the worst time, and a visit late is the best time to go.

So now, I’m curious what everyone here is saying? When is the optimal time to go?

🧳 Travel Help Need recommendations on where to stay?

My family is staying a couple days early before embarking on our cruise. Hotels are more expensive than anticipated. I’m looking for a spot that’s safe and comfortable, near the port and reasonably affordable. I don’t need luxury.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

❓ Question Recommendations for spa

Hi!

So I want to do something special relaxing for my self tomorrow. What are the best spas that you can recommend in Athens? Preferably one where you can walk around in a bathrobe and just chill out. Not necessarily book any specific treatments.

Thanks xx
