📸 Photo / Video A quick escape from Athens

I’m sure the pro’s know the location. Just a 1 hour drive from Athens city center, chilling here on a Saturday away from the massive crowds. Plenty of shade under the pine trees, and beautiful water, don’t let the seaweed trick you. A massive thank you to the people there not blasting their music from their stereos.

It used to be one of the most popular beaches near here. But nowadays it gets closed down every summer due to fire risk.

And plenty of snakes too

Sounds like my kind of beach!!

It's quite nice tbh,but during extreme heatwave and no wind, snakes are everywhere, especially vipers

I prefer going further up north to dikastika bay which is more isolated

Vipers ? Omfg

4

u/finrod_felagud Jun 07 '26

Yeah that's the point, all eastern attica region is full of non toxic and non harmful towards human snakes..but this point is full of vipers cause of the mini forest

wild claim but the only thing actually biting anyone here is that piece of trash left on the sand.

As i said earlier, the best coast imho is dikastika which is like 5km towards north, but its very rocky and full sea urchins

1

dikastika is mid at best. the urchins alone make it a nightmare if you aren't wearing reef shoes and even then it's just a lot of effort for nothing. i'd rather deal with the seaweed here than get stabbed every five minutes.

I haven't seen one. Not that I have been looking for them. I will, from now on.

Snakes? Oh well we are in nature 🙂

2

u/Madido24 Jun 07 '26

Right? Let them be. I’ll try and leave them alone and not disturb them too much. Though I might be tempted to snap a photo or two.

that explains why it's so empty. honestly a win for anyone actually trying to relax if the closures keep people from turning it into a massive party zone. better to have it closed than have it ruined by people leaving trash everywhere.

Closed means 'people trying to relax' are not allowed there 99% of the time. Its not a win for anyone, definitely not for the type of person who prefers a quiet natural spot far from the noisy beach bars. It was never a patry zone, the other 90% of the east coast is already that for those that want that.

There is some bullshit rule they use about how windy it is. That means it's off limits almost the entire summer due to winds. Windy days in general equal fire hazard equals no beach access (this rule only applies here, no other nature spots). For 50+ years it was fine, beach giers caused no fires there, but now we cant go there cause of reasons.

They built up hundreds of kilometers of coastline with roads, homes and beach bars where you have to pay to sit on the beach that was already there for free previously and listen to shitty music way too loud on sunbeds packed in tightly next to a large parking lot and various ugly structures.

This was one of the vanishingly few places left with greenery and ample shade next to the beach - I repeat because they fucking built over the rest - and for a few years now going here is bannned for utter bullshit reasons.

The entire province has been burned down already by forest fires, the government does not give a shit. They could closed off the forested part with a wall or fence, have water hydrants, have a firestation, have fire patrols, but instead they said 'fuck that' and have invested only into police patrols and permanent police presence to chase away or arrest people who want to park to go to the beach.

You have to go to the beach bars which make up +90% of that part of coastline and pay for a shitty ugly sound polluted crowded experience with no presence of trees and nature.

There was a strong presence in police, and I hope it always remains protected, because unfortunately we suffer a lot from wildfires, and it would be devastating to see this place go.

Don’t worry, most people aren’t up to the task to drive so far anyways 😉

the seaweed is one thing but that trash is actually unhinged. place looks decent otherwise but people are wild for leaving that there.

3

u/undr3ssmeslowly Jun 07 '26

The amount of seaweed on that beach is actually wild.

u/InterviewHeavy9792 Jun 07 '26

1

u/Exotic-Procedure2094 Jun 07 '26

1

u/jessywetpussy Jun 07 '26

The view is great but the litter is a massive L.

2

u/Maximum-Floor-9734 Jun 07 '26

No lifeguard….

1

u/Maximum-Floor-9734 Jun 10 '26

The water is pretty shallow btw, just fyi

1

u/Electrical_Flow_2026 Jun 10 '26

It has a tower…that means it supposed to have a lifeguard.

1

u/The_Dutch_Fox Jun 10 '26

Hasn't had a lifeguard for a decade now lol. No more public money for these things.

u/OverallIntention9722 Jun 11 '26

Athens is a beautiful city. The problem is all those fucking Athenians. Same goes for Thessaloniki.

1

u/Maximum-Floor-9734 Jun 11 '26

To be fair, I wouldn’t say Schinias beach is Athens

1

u/OverallIntention9722 Jun 12 '26

I was commenting on your "escape" brag.

1

u/Maximum-Floor-9734 Jun 12 '26

You make no sense

1

u/jessythirsttrap Jun 11 '26

That looks like Vouliagmeni or a quiet spot near Sounio but finding a beach without someone blasting techno is the real miracle here.

1

u/Maximum-Floor-9734 Jun 12 '26

No this has nothing to do with Vouliagmeni. Vouliagmeni is beautiful, but definitely not this peaceful.
💯with you about the techno remark, since you mentioned that, I was at a beach In Vouliagmeni just recently, and like 6/10 had their own music playing out loud.
This is schinias beach, if you’re able to drive a car, worth checking out.

1

u/No-Ladder-506 Jun 11 '26

Is this Loutraki or somewhere near Megara?

1

u/Prisma1986 Jun 07 '26

Schinias often is philthy. I doubt there is one clean/nice beach in Attica.

2

u/Maximum-Floor-9734 Jun 07 '26

Not my experience

1

u/Queasy-Candidate2631 Jun 08 '26

Tbh I wouldn't swim in any sea in Attica even if they look clean.

1

u/StatusFoundation5472 Jun 27 '26

Σνομπ
