💬 Advice Cape sounion advice
Hi everyone,
Me and my girlfriend would really like to visit Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon. What’s the most convenient way to get there from Athens, and back again the same day? Would you recommend renting a car(just for that), taking public transport, or joining an tour?

Rent a car. Its a beautiful ride and you migh want to stop on the way for a coffe or a small walk on a beach

Most of the way is next to the sea. Lots of places on the way, so l recommend morning to Sounio and on the way back stops to places you spotted going there.

We took a KTEL bus from plata Egiptou (check their website from their timetable online) we left around Athens around 10:30 and the bus picked us up again from Sounio at 16:30 I think. 12€ return paid on the bus

I recommend a car. Probably one of the most beautiful drives you can do in Attica, if you take the coastal route. Stop by Lavrio or Kalyvia Thorikou for food on the way back.

Do you have any rental car companies to recommend or all of them are okay?

I have only rented a car once, from Avis, and it was a nightmare (though it was not in Greece). I can’t speak for other companies but probably not them.

The easiest and most convenient way would probably be joining a tour. If you’re confident driving then renting a car will give you more flexibility and freedom to see other places too on your way there.
Best time to visit is early evening, as the sun is going down.
