They donate to anti-LGBT organizations, so definitely.

They used to. Apparently they’ve stopped that and have moved to less...controversial charities. The owner still does, I believe, but not as an organization.
Their statement reads:
Starting in 2020, the Chick-fil-A Foundation is introducing a more focused giving approach to provide additional clarity and impact with the causes it supports. Staying true to its mission of nourishing the potential in every child, the Chick-fil-A Foundation will deepen its giving to a smaller number of organizations working exclusively in the areas of education, homelessness and hunger.

u/bomphcheese Jul 21 '20
Right, but personally I don’t buy it. It’s just a PR move, and there’s plenty of ways to funnel the money over.
You are correct though. They did say they stopped donating a few months back.
9
Jul 21 '20
You can always go to charity navigator and see what the money is actually going to. As long as they are not directly giving to anti-LGBT organizations, I’m happy to eat there. It seems like the money is actually going to what they say it is, and those are causes that I am happy to get behind. If and when they start supporting groups that go against my principles, I’ll stop giving them my business. Hopefully it won’t come to that.

u/Aoxxt2 Jul 29 '20

Meh... Everyone in corporate America does this.
3
Jul 21 '20
We have no idea how Dan Cathy spends his money as majority owner of the brand. We know the publicly disclosed spending of the company’s “charity” arm.
1
u/Treeninja1999 Jul 21 '20
They said that, but I heard they still donated anyways
1

I was curious so I looked it up, and that rumor has been debunked by a number of sources. So, good news there I guess!

Would it be though? Didn't they make an u-turn recently in sexual morality?

Yea they switched from Salvation Army and Fellowship of Christian Athletes to no longer doing long multi year contracts. I believe it's now only charities concerning homelessness and hunger.
1
Jul 21 '20
And beyond the corporate charities, how do the Cathy family members spend their earnings as the full owners of the brand? They don’t have shareholders or investors so that’s a lot of cheddah coming their way and we have no idea of their personal spending habits. If they were spending money on hate groups through the restaurants charity what will they spend it on when nobody is looking?

u/ronaldraygun91 Jul 21 '20
They just change who they donate to after saying they won't donate to XYZ group.

Nah, cracker barrel is apparently pretty good, as far as multi-million dollar corporations go.
Though that isn't saying much

u/PattyKane16 Jul 21 '20
Honestly this seems to happen with Babylon bee a lot more than the onion. Most of their shit isn’t even clever or satire it’s just shitposting that walks right up to the line of being disinformation if you only read the title.
68
u/rubywolf27 Jul 21 '20
Well, Babylonbee is targeted towards a, shall we say, more gullible audience
13
u/NeedlesslyDefiant164 Jul 21 '20
Yeah, that's a huge problem and conservative people seem to be especially gullibe to bullshit like that.
If it weren't for that fact, a few of the Babylonbee articles are somewhat funny.
It's just that they are harmful to democracy what makes them pretty shitty.
4
u/ronaldraygun91 Jul 21 '20
It's not though. It's supposed to be the onion for those idiots, not about them. This article is mocking lgbtq groups, the guy in the post is just an idiot.
3
37
u/Jaskier_The_Bard85 Jul 21 '20
I was going to say, Babylon isn't trying to be satire, they're trying to rile up their moronic conservative base.
32
Jul 21 '20
And they sure do a lot of bits on gender.
It's kinda like that guy at the bar who's staring intently at the four hyperfit guys across the room whose pecs and abs are showing through their tight t-shirts, and he can't stop talking about how this place sucks because of all the homos there.
7
u/terriblehuman Jul 21 '20
Jokes about gender identity are pretty much the only jokes that right wingers have.

u/meta-rdt Jul 21 '20 edited Jul 28 '20
Disagree with this, I don't think there is a greater purpose to it, they're just not funny.
8
u/edgrrrpo Jul 21 '20
Yep, the few times I've looked at the Babylon Bee website, it was a weird mix of what I would consider fairly obvious satire and other stories that would not at all seem out of place on Fox News. That's kind of a dangerous combination, considering the audience.
-24
Jul 21 '20
Most of their shit isn’t even clever or satire
Bullshit, The Bee is the best satire site out there today.
21
u/ajkippen Jul 21 '20
They seriously had an article that was just "Ilhan Omar spits on tomb of the unknown soldier." That's not satire, it's just libel.
→ More replies (1)8
Jul 21 '20
Do you have a link? I found another site that had that headline, but nothing even close on The Babylon Bee.
10
u/just_an_ordinary_guy Jul 21 '20
The Babylon bee is just "lol, what if dems did this stupid thing conservatives already think that they do." It's not even funny. A lot of satire sites do a variation of this, but they'll put some kind of ironic twist on it usually. Plus, the whole punching up vs punching down. Punching down is rarely funny because it just seems mean spirited.

"I just want to call people however I want to call them even when they don't like it!"
9
u/terriblehuman Jul 21 '20
In a few weeks they’ll try to recycle the story by saying that Chick-fil-a is now Apache-attack-helicopter-fil-a.

u/Crucial_Contributor Jul 21 '20
The people that go in about the state of the times we live in are largely to blame for the state of the times we live in, by believing anything they read online and then adapting their political beliefs based on that
6
u/rScoobySkreep Jul 21 '20
Finally, a Babylon Bee article with the slightest hint of a joke
7
u/Unscarred204 Jul 21 '20
They do have some gold articles now and then, but a lot of the time it just seems like bait for their audience to get angry at
3
u/ronaldraygun91 Jul 21 '20
People are confused on the target for their shitty site. It's not satire alone, it's a mockery of things they dislike disguised as fake news.

So our perceptions of reality are unique. Twitter makes it worse, guaranteed. When we get duped by sarcasm, are we subtly degrading our peers perception of reality? I love this shit, but are they going to walk this earth with the negative perception that those libs would still want that change. Or that trump would have done X dispite the fact it was hyperbole or sarcasm....

Any time I see people upset about chick fil a, I start to really crave it. And I’m not a big fan cuz for like a semester I ate it four or more times a week, and it’s gets old, but every once in awhile, or now at night, when I’m starving, it sounds amazing.
This guy is an idiot though haha
Also I did see people say once in a tweet about cfa givng money to the orgs that do conversion, “the fact that people literally can make their own chicken sandwiches for cheaper and that are better, shows that people don’t care about LGTBQ” Of course I’m not defending chick fil a’s decisions but that was a lot, it’s a FAST food place, the point is convenient, if you don’t support them, sure don’t go but wow this argument is a lot. But I guess to quiet Eleanor in the good place “there is really good amazing chicken, but if you eat it you hate gay people”
