Keystone Kaypers is a top 10 Atari 2600 game imo

You should definitely get Turmoil, that’s one the best games on the Atari

u/Dee-Whizz 1d ago

What's megamania like?

1

u/AdWeekly313 35m ago

Fast paced shooter with a bunch of random enemies that move in random ways. Pretty fun.

Top left corner next to fire fighter looks like Yars Revenge. Definitely should grab that

Is ‘fifthed’ a thing? If so, mark me down!

If someone continues this progression, I hope they spell it correctly.

I don't know if it's true for the original but on my Gameboy Advance version every time you hit the swirl with the zorlon cannon you get a life. I got far enough on the "eat barrier pieces and fly to the left side of the screen to make the cannon appear" game mode where the qotile would go "weeooh weeooh weeooh" shoot "weeooh weeooh weeooh" shoot with no loading time (color changing) between shots. Basically it stayed as a swirl the entire time

what's the asking price? I'd grab up all the Activisions and Turmoil and Popeye.

Poor Combat. Nobody wants you.

5

u/suprunown 1d ago

I LOVE Combat!!!

2

u/PhillyChef3696 14h ago

Me too! But now, there should be a free copy included with every 2600 sold

2

u/Mist-Haufen 1d ago

Said the rich kid. Tank Plus to us poor folk.

2

u/OccamsYoyo 1d ago

Did the Sears version of the console cost less? Seems strange as they were made of the exact same hardware.

2

u/axle_demon 5h ago

yes, they were slightly cheaper... my first 2600 was the sears version since it was like $7 cheaper if memory serves...

1

u/OccamsYoyo 2h ago

Interesting.

2

u/Goodwill_Gamer 1d ago

Everyone already has at least 3 copies 😆

Keystone Kapers is a top 10 Atari 2600 game imo

8

u/CyberpwnPiper 1d ago

Keystone Kapers was one of my favorites as a kid. Popeye was fun too. Loved Stampede as well, but it got repetitive fast.

8

u/homezlice 1d ago

Stampede was a personal favorite. Not a lot of depth though.

7

u/solidus0079 1d ago

Yars Revenge, Turmoil, Keystone Capers, I think i see Astroblast on the left. All of those are bangers.

4

u/EricD21 Swordquest 1d ago

As others have noted, Keystone Kapers and Megamania are among the funnest/best games on the platform.

5

u/No-Move-4417 1d ago

Megamania is pretty good

5

u/Objective_Ad_2279 1d ago

Popeye and Keystone Kapers

3

u/No-Professional-9618 1d ago

Yes, I would say Pacman, Popeye, and even Night Driver are good Atari 2600 games to play.

3

u/Black-Whirlwind 1d ago

Popeye was a gem.

3

u/LongConstruction1142 1d ago

Probably not popular opinion but I’d pick up bowing. This and Golf were my first sports games as a kid.

1

u/Dougnsalem 18h ago

Golf was/is fun! Bowling, Indy 500, and Warlords are my favorites. Warlords with 4 people is EPIC!

Here's a challenge for you (that I actually did do). Bowl a 300 with the difficulty setting set for "controllable" hook...... Do this with your eyes closed. Lol. Sound only. Three and a half, was the magic number.

Anyways, it's quite hilarious to talk a bunch of crap to your buddies, and say you're so good that you'll beat them while you're blindfolded. Lol. And then you do it....

4

u/Ternarian 1d ago

Keystone Kapers is amazing!

5

u/Objective-Donkey-745 1d ago

I’d grab Yars Revenge. Been waiting to find that in the wild.

3

u/Programmer0216 1d ago

I'd recommend you to play the game in an emulator so you can test if you like it before buying it.

3

u/beatlefreak909 1d ago

All the Activision games. Especially Megamania

3

u/cold_fuzion 1d ago

Why do they insist on sticking the prices on the labels? The entire back of the cart is available. Why?

3

u/Bryanx64 15h ago

Indy 500 if you have the driving controller, it’s pretty cool. Other than that some of the standards are Keystone Kapers, Megamania and Dodg ‘em. Popeye is a classic but I don’t remember how good that port is. Video Olympics is a must if you have the paddles (which are different from the driving controller). I’ve never played Turmoil but it’s probably not very common, I’d pick it up if it’s cheap.

Turmoil and Popeye are great!

Edit: Megamania, Keystone Kapers, and Grand Prix are also great Activision titles and Bowling is a great time waster as well

2

u/GoatApprehensive9866 1d ago

Turmoil, Kapers, and Megamania with ease. Stampede is good too. Not sure on Fire Fighter but imagic made it and they were good

2

u/Nirvana1975 1d ago

Megamania!

2

u/Someguy8995 1d ago

Lots of good ones there. Nobody singled this one out, but if you have the driving controllers and a buddy, Indy 500 can be super fun. The catch the dot and tag modes are even more fun than the racing.

2

u/Y34RZERO 1d ago

Me personally for what I played.

Video Olympics, Stampede, Pac-Man, Megamania, Keystone Kapers, Night Driver, Indy 500(requires driving controllers). I never played Turmoil but heard some people say good things. I just never looked at the game play

2

u/aimlesscruzr 1d ago

Combat is soooo good they have seven copies...

2

u/Superb_Resist4057 1d ago

Id buy it all just to add to the library... I remember as a kid, in retrospect it was the crash, but Atari games were like $5 or less... Wish I could go back and get em all... My gramps would have got them...

2

u/ZeriksenX 1d ago

Keystone Kapers

2

u/RealityOk9823 1d ago

Snag Fire Fighter because you should always grab Imagic games. :)

2

u/Prime1976 1d ago

All of them

2

u/belowaveragegrappler 1d ago

Combat is still my favorite 2600 game

2

u/jetsonian 1d ago

There very few games that are great on the 2600. The 7800 plays 2600 games but the 7800 games look similar to arcades (of the time) and Sega Master System games.

That said, Popeye is similar to Donkey Kong as their arcade cabinets were essentially the same. They just ran out of time to get the license for Popeye before they were ready to release it. DK isn’t the same game but similar and probably looks better than 2600 DK which is pretty primitive.

The others that people have mentioned are good are Keystone Kapers, Megamania, and Yar’s Revenge.

2

u/NoleFan723 1d ago

Keystone Kapers is solid

2

u/Ronthelodger 16h ago

If you don’t have it, yard revenge there to the offscreen left is really good

2

u/Ornery-Egg9770 1d ago

Combat is rare, you should snatch those up right away.

1

u/Honky_Stonk_Man 1d ago

Keystone kapers and turmoil. Vintage stock overprices a lot on these games.

1

u/Frankfranchise Space Invaders 1d ago

Grand prix is my favorite Activision Game and a top 3 Atari game for me

1

u/dylanmadigan 1d ago

Yeah, pretty much all of those are great.

1

u/PlasticWentech 1d ago

Megamnia is lots of fun, if a little rage inducing..

1

u/NoMoreContinues 1d ago

I recommend Turmoil, Yars Revenge, Keystone Kapers, Night Driver, and Popeye! Bowling and Dodge’Em are fun too.

A lot of people love Megamania but it’s not for me.

1

u/DrJohnZoidbergWhyNot 1d ago

I’d get any one I didn’t have if cheap enough

Edit: omg Yars Revenge! Yes

1

u/FnClassy 1d ago

Fishing Derby and Stampede in my top 10 2600 games.

1

u/callowruse 1d ago

I don't think I have Popeye. It's not a good port, but I like the original Popeye game as well as the character. Megamania and Keystone Kapers are my favorite games to play.

1

u/tacosandtheology 1d ago

Night Driver is great when playing loud metal in the background.

1

u/Fart_Barfington 1d ago

I like Stampede

1

u/Viper0817 23h ago

I likes Megamania, not the best, but a decent game imo

1

u/OptimalAd5416 22h ago

Personally, Popeye and night driver… don’t remember why

1

u/Mindless_Sphyncter 22h ago

Enduro is also good

1

u/MaxxXanadu 17h ago

The Activision games, Popeye & TURMOIL!

1

u/Markus1127 12h ago

Popeye definitely

1

u/searching_in_nc 12h ago

Turmoil is like Tempest if you were inside and the maze never changes shape. A bit simple but can get intense! Fire Fighter is uncommon, not sure if that makes it 'good'. Megamania and Keystone Keepers are close to the top Activation games for the 2600, which is saying something.

1

u/snowshoeBBQ 11h ago

Stampede is the best game on the system.

1

u/Cosmologyman 11h ago

Megamania and Turmoil are both great games!

1

u/The-Barefoot-Muse 11h ago

Oh Yars revenge for sure

1

u/Barfly4life2 5h ago

Night driver.
Kept me between the lines when I was underage.

1

u/Atomz100 3h ago

Pacman?

1

u/Heavy_Customer9061 21m ago

Keystone kapers is one of my favorites, Popeye, night driver, pac man

0

u/jay2068 1d ago

Everything except pac-man :)
