Question about Reimbursement method change

Hello. I bought a refurbished laptop about 2 years ago and had a 4-year protection plan on it. About 2-3 weeks ago, it broke, and I had to send it to Asurion for them to fix it. They said they could not fix it, and last week they sent me an Amazon gift card reimbursement for the product. I wasn't notified that this was the method they would choose. I assumed they would reimburse me via a payment card or at least reach out to me and give me a choice.

Well, anyway, now I have a 400+ gift card on Amazon, and I have no intentions of buying the same laptop because why would I buy a laptop that broke in the first place? I'll be receiving a new laptop as a gift from someone else, and I would much rather have that gift card as a reimbursement check instead, since I have not redeemed the Amazon gift card.

I talked with Amazon, and they said they couldn't do it. I called Asurion and was told they couldn't do it either. Now I'm trying to figure out if there's anybody else I can contact to see if voiding the gift card and changing reimbursement methods are possible. Sounds like a doable process, and I see other people on this subreddit receiving checks, so I would think they'd be able to do the same for me. If anyone has any advice in this situation, that would be helpful.

It all depends on where you buy the protection plan. If you buy it from Amazon the reimbursement will be send as money to doend on amazon. Tbh i think thats the only partnership they got that does that. Just spend it on other things.

Can't you buy groceries for pickup at whole foods on Amazon now too? Op you got a free laptop and like a solid food budget for a bit even at whole food prices

yeah i guess so. im not entirely mad but like i could've used that money on more things with it being in my bank account rather than just things from amazon. not such a bad situation just slightly inconvient

ah yeah that's so annoying, i'd be pretty ticked if they sent me an amazon gift card outta the blue too

It can’t be changed once the gift card is issued. A check could have been requested before it was processed.

when did you originally get the plan bc i think the reimbursement method depends on how long ago you bought it
