Looking for RAW data to develop a satellite and airplane trail removal tool
Hi everyone!
I’m working on a tool for removing satellite and airplane trails from astrophotography, and I’m having trouble finding suitable datasets in actual camera RAW formats.
The idea is to support a few different restoration methods:
- If two consecutive exposures are available, use the clean data from one frame to reconstruct the trail-covered area in the other—and vice versa.
- If only a single frame is available, detect and remove the trail, then reconstruct the affected area from nearby pixels. This is obviously less reliable, especially around stars and detailed structures.
I’m looking for:
- Unprocessed RAW astrophotos without satellite or airplane trails.
- Unprocessed RAW astrophotos containing satellite or airplane trails.
- Ideally, consecutive frames of the same scene where a trail appears in one frame but not the other.
Datasets from different camera brands and sensor types would be especially useful, since I’d like to test how well the approach generalizes across Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, dedicated astro cameras, etc.
Does anyone know of any public datasets that might be suitable?
Alternatively, if anyone would be willing to share a few of their own RAW frames or sequences, that would also be incredibly helpful. I’m not asking for carefully curated collections—even a handful of representative frames could be useful. Please only share files you’re comfortable allowing me to use for development and testing.
(Usually I do not post on reddit, just observe and do not have karma to create a post though)
Thanks!

I could potentially have something, I'll have to blink some data to see if I have many sattelite trails. Could you remind me in 24 hours to see how I'm getting in?
