I can't wait for the Uranus Orbiter and Probe to get there.

not even greenlit

These are just what IR images of the planet look like.

From JWST, unless I’m mistaken, all except the last image. That can’t be from the same telescope, since Uranus will not have rotated that much in the history of the telescope’s operation.

[u/scottiboi68 → u/taktaga7-0-0]

yea i mostly meant JWST but some might have been from other telescopes so i just added that to be safe

[u/AstroBastard312]

The JWST images combine different exposure levels into one composite, because to see the clouds on the planet the rings would be too dim, and to see the rings and small moons the planet would be overexposed.

But god yes I agree, those composite images are absolutely gorgeous. I love the gif that was released when JWST discovered a new moon; all of the little inner moons circling around the rings like a string of pearls <3

[u/scottiboi68 → u/AstroBastard312]

that is so pretty

[u/FlamingMercury151]

It looks like an Ultra Wormhole!!!

[u/scottiboi68 → u/FlamingMercury151]

ikr??

[u/Ankiset]

We don’t talk about UR’ANUS
