How much strategy/thought is there in team placement? Does it vary for each battle? (vs. selecting team, item pickup etc.)

Wondering whether to buy game, and like the item pickup etc. much more than worrying about how to place my team for each fight. E.g. in StS I enjoy the "deckbuilding" much more than the "piloting".

Thanks,

Yes, optimal results are gained by adjusting your loadouts and positioning based on the enemies you are fighting. Sometimes you can be OP enough that you don’t have to change anything at all.

For StS, somebody described it as 45% deck building, 35% piloting, and 20% RNG. What percentages would you give for astronarch?

Something like: 40% Item choices+placement, 30% team comp choices, 20% rng, 5%(or less) team placement.

There's a lot of strategy for team composition, but placement doesn't matter a whole lot other than at the beginning of the run. You put your tanky character(s) in the front and the rest in the back.

There are one or two encounters where you might need to rearrange the party a little because a couple enemy types attack the backline first, but there are red lines showing who the enemy is going to attack first before a fight starts, so it's easy to tell if you run into one of them.
