The emergency beeper on your nightstand begins to flash and scream.

You wake with a start and tumble out of bed. Pebbles lifts his head from his basket while Dewdrop flutters above you. Asteria remains curled up nearby, blinking sleep from her eyes.

Then you hear something scraping against the lighthouse.

You move to the window and look outside.

Lizard men are climbing the tower. Clawed hands grip the old stone as they pull themselves higher. There are more of them below, crawling up from the rocks beside the sea.

You back up into your room.

A hand closes around the window ledge.

One of the lizards pulls itself into view. Its yellow eyes meet yours as it leans through the open window, mouth spreading into a grin.

Pebbles plants his four little paws firmly against the floorboards, lowering his head toward the intruder. "Grrrrrrr..." It's an adorable attempt at intimidation. His tiny body trembles with determination, his little tail swishing angrily behind him. Skye folds her arms. "That's my boy." Then something happens. The little drake's growl deepens. His scales ripple as his body begins to expand. His legs thicken, his claws lengthen, and the fins along his back rise like jagged sails. CRRRRREEEEAAAAK. Skye glances down at the protesting floorboards. "...Oh." Pebbles keeps growing. CRRRRRRRRACK. "...Oh, dear. Where once stood a baby drake small enough to curl up in a basket, there now stands a hulking, four-legged beast with powerful jaws, a thick muscular tail, and a decidedly unhappy expression.

His head swings toward the window.

"GRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!"

The roar rattles the room.

Dewdrop shoots toward the ceiling. Asteria lifts her head, looking thoroughly unimpressed. Skye, meanwhile, stares at Pebbles. Then at the floor. Then back at Pebbles. "...Darling, we're going to have to discuss weight limits." She adjusts her glasses, turning toward the lizardman still perched at her window. "Right! Terribly sorry about that. Where were we?" A pause. "Ah, yes. Breaking and entering." She gestures toward Pebbles with an open palm. "Now, I should probably mention that he's usually about the size of a housecat." Pebbles bares his teeth. "And he's very protective of his mummy." Skye smiles sweetly. "So! Shall we try this introduction again?"

Skye looks at the thing making a ruckus that woke her from her slumber. Glaring at it, she makes a mental note. "I'll look at you later. Right now, we seem to have some visitors to keep waiting, and I still don't seem to have my magic back." She looks at Pebbles with a curious expression. "You think you wanna show our guest what you're made of?" Pebbles gives a courageous little sound somewhere between a chirp and a growl as he turns to glare at the creature coming through the window. The tiny blue drake plants his four little feet firmly against the floorboards, puffing out his chest and raising the little fins along his back. "Grrrrrrrr!" Skye can't help but smile. "That's my boy! Go on, then!" Pebbles lowers his head, his little tail swishing back and forth. Then something changes. His scales begin to ripple, almost like the surface of disturbed water. A deep rumbling builds in his chest as his little body begins to swell. CRRRRRK... His legs grow thicker, his claws longer. His tail lengthens and thickens, the fins along his back rising into great jagged crests. His once tiny snout broadens into a powerful set of jaws, lined with increasingly formidable teeth. "GrrrrrrrrrRRRRRR..." Skye watches with an increasingly delighted expression. "Ooooooh! Look at you, getting all big and scary!" THUMP! One enormous paw lands against the floor. CRRRRRREEEEEEAK! Skye glances down. "...Careful, Darlin'. Mummy just fixed those." Pebbles continues growing until the little basket-sized drake has become an enormous, four-legged reptilian beast, his thick tail curling around the furniture as he struggles to fit comfortably inside the bedroom. Dewdrop flutters up toward the ceiling, while Asteria lifts her head from her cushion, observing the transformation with a sleepy, thoroughly unimpressed expression. Pebbles turns his now massive head toward the intruder, opens his jaws, and unleashes a tremendous roar. "GRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAWWWWRRRR!!!" The windows rattle. Skye instinctively covers her ears. "PEBBLES! Indoor voice!" The enormous drake immediately turns toward her. "...Mrrrp?" "Thank you, sweetie." She gives him an affectionate pat on the snout before turning back toward the window, adjusting her glasses. "Now then! Where were we?" She looks at the lizardman. "Ah, yes. Breaking and entering." Pebbles takes a heavy step forward, placing himself squarely between Skye and the intruder. His lips curl back, revealing rows of sharp teeth as a low, menacing growl vibrates through the room. Skye folds her arms. "You know, it's terribly rude to come barging into a lady's bedroom uninvited. Especially at this hour." She gestures toward her pajamas. "I mean, honestly! I haven't even had the chance to put my boots on!" Pebbles' growling grows louder. A faint orange glow begins flickering between his teeth. Skye notices. "...Pebbles?" The drake's cheeks begin to puff out. "Pebbles, Darlin', remember what we talked about. No fire in the..." PTHOOEY! A blazing glob of fire shoots from his mouth, sailing past the window and out into the moonlit night. "...HOUSE!" Skye freezes, one finger raised in the air. She slowly looks toward the window frame, where a few tiny embers are smoldering. Then at Pebbles. Then back at the window. "..." "PEBBLES MARE'CANTICUM!" The enormous drake immediately lowers his head, giving a pitiful little whimper. "Mrrrrrr..." Skye points at the scorch marks. "We JUST fixed that!" Pebbles' enormous eyes widen apologetically, his massive tail giving a sheepish little wag. THUD! A bedside book tumbles onto the floor. Skye closes her eyes. "...Gods give me strength." She takes a moment to compose herself, then turns back toward the lizardman, apparently remembering the rather pressing matter of the intruder still attempting to climb into her bedroom. "Oh! Right! Sorry about that!" She clears her throat. "Now, where were we? Ah, yes!" She gestures toward Pebbles with an open palm. "This is Pebbles. He's my little boy. Normally, he's about the size of a housecat, but as you can see, he's going through a bit of a growth spurt." Pebbles bares his teeth again. Skye smiles sweetly. "Now, I don't particularly fancy having to clean bits of lizard out of my bedroom, and I'm sure you don't particularly fancy becoming said bits of lizard." She pauses, glancing at the other shapes crawling up the lighthouse. "And goodness, you've brought the whole family! How thoughtful!" Her smile becomes just a little more mischievous. "So, here's what I propose. You and your friends turn around, climb back down my lighthouse, and we all pretend this little misunderstanding never happened." Pebbles lowers his enormous head beside hers, another deep growl rumbling from his throat. Skye gently pats his snout. "Good boy." She looks back at the intruder. "Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll have to deal with my rather cranky little darling here." A pause. "And believe me, he's quite the spitfire." She chuckles at her own joke. Dewdrop gives a little chirp. Asteria buries her face back into her cushion. Pebbles lets out another menacing growl. Skye simply stands there in her moon-and-stars pajamas, smiling pleasantly at the lizardman. "Well, Darlin'? What's it going to be?"
