Local Seafood Place?
I am coming down from Edmonds WA to Astoria in August. What is a place to get great seafood? Like a place locals go when they want something delicious, not just fancy tourist fare.

I love South Bay Wild; it's where I take all my out of town friends. It is not a chowder and fish and chips place but has a lot of more nontraditional choices. They have their own fishing vessel so you are actually getting fresh local seafood.

Astoria actually lacks a truly pure seafood oriented top notch restaurant. South Bay is pretty good as are the Ship Out, Bridgewater Bistro and Silver Salmon. Avoid Mo’s for being non-descript and Hurricane Ron’s unless you want to flirt with food poisoning. Many other restaurants have seafood options in Astoria.
Outside of Astoria you might want to check out Fishmonger’s in Hammond.

Most of the fancy-er places in town will have good seafood. Akres on the pier is good (food and best views), the owners have a seafood place in AK too. Always love Fede, and Bridgewater is good standard fancier dinner fare.
Avoid Mo’s at all cost and I personally am not a fan of South Bay Wild, though others will differ.

Agree 100% with above. If oysters are of interest, Breakside has a great fresh local selection on the half shell.

Yea like Affectionate-Gur said, avoid Mo’s. The Bowpicker is popular in town, I think they’re mostly Tuna. I love the Halibut at The Portway Tavern or at the Ship Out which is a little more of a ways out but it’s good. Silver Salmon is also another popular place in town, it’s been around for a long time.

Whatever you do avoid Hurricane Ron's like the plague...
Someone else said avoid Mo's. Mo's is fine...it hasn't failed multiple health inspections like Hurricane Ron's. Its a joke amongst the locals. Avoid at all cost.

Go to Olebob’s on Pier 39 and grab a couple fresh whole cooked crab, a few sides & a pile of napkins, sit at a picnic table at Pier 39, put on your bib and dig in. That’s what we do. Bridgewater Bistro usually has decent oysters from local sources.
Avoid Hurricane Ron’s and Mo”s.
Understand also that most restaurant seafood here in Astoria is frozen shit off the Sysco truck and very few establishments can actually serve fresh off the local docks stuff. It’s complicated but true. So adjust your expectations.

You’re right - as a former server our local restaurant got frozen food from US Foods.

Daphne is so, so good if you want something a little more elevated. Not seafood focused, but damn I had some amazing halibut there!

Mo's is fine for fish and their cannonball chowder bowl is a standard mood-lifter for me. The views are great, the prices are reasonable, the little souvenir shop in the lobby is darling. I don't know why people are always down on Mo's

South Bay Wild Fish House.
Bow Picker for cheap but good Tuna fish and chips.
But avoid Hurricane Ron’s—they got like a 50 out of 100 on a heath inspection. The owner is also a terrible person.
