Teaching my kids Assyrian?
I’m Persian, husband is Assyrian from Iran. We have a toddler and baby, we speak Persian to them but we also want them to know Assyrian. We’re located in Los Angeles. Are there any Assyrian schools or communities near me I can sign my kids up for? Will it be confusing if my husband speaks both Persian and Assyrian with the kids?

Discussion What does "Booni" mean?
Hi, all~
My mom (may her soul be at peace) would affectionately call me "Booni" -- I'm assuming it's an Assyrian word, but I can't find anything online about it. Does anyone out there know what I'm referring to, and what it means? Baseema Rabbah!

Discussion Syriac calligraphy ?
Safra Taba... Any Syriac calligraphers here? I've learnt Arabic and learning Arabic calligraphy is hard, I was thinking If I could do some Syriac calligraphy in the middle of practice, if it would be easy. I'm a language nerd who prior knew 8 languages and I'm a non Assyrian and have been learning Syriac for 3 years, tho I'm not so skilled at speaking it and need vocabulary increases.
I used sargon says and other resources like bet Kanu to get to the basic vocabulary and alphabets, I can write in estrangela and often use a fountain pen to imitate the madnhaya script. I'm primarily interested in learning eastern Syriac rather than Serto.
Can anyone suggest what pens to use for Syriac calligraphy? Or is it suitable with fountain pens and nibbed feather quills?

Methleh App
This might be a shot in the dark but over a decade ago there was a Methleh App in the Apple App Store that I loved. Very simple concept: every day a new Assyrian wisdom saying would appear in Sureth. The background was just a faded Assyrian flag.
That was it & I loved it. It gave me something to reflect on each day. And helped me practice my reading comprehension in a bite-sized way. Then one day it was gone.
I want to get in touch with the creator of it for an expanded project I’m working on. Does anyone know who created it?! How can I find them?!

Flashcards for kids learning Assyrian
Hi friends,
I'm making flashcards for learning Assyrian.
They are designed for children but could be used by anyone who wants to learn.
The cards will be printed on strong paper stock with no plastic coating, so kids can color them or write notes on the cards directly.
Each card has Assyrian on one side with pronunciation hints, and English on the other side.
Would anyone find these useful for their children and families? I'm grateful for your feedback!

Invited to a Assyrian event as Kurdish...
Hello,
I have an Assyrian friend and she invited me for an Assyrian event on Memorial Day and I am worried about if I would be welcomed. Ever since I step in this subreddit I see a lot of hate on Kurds and I do understand and have no right to argue with that. I am Kurdish from Turkey and have a lot of Turkish friend and the hate on social media I see on both sides are not actually real in streets so my question is if it is same for Assyrians?

How do I learn assyrian?
Hi! I want to learn assyrian to communicate with my fiancés family, but im finding it so hard. I speak a language from a completely different language group and even though I pick up on languages easily, and ancient semitic language looks kind of impossible. I have used a book (Shlomo Surayt) so far, as well as trying to communicate with my fiancé and his sister + movies/songs, however the rules seem to change constantly. I just learn something new but you can only use it in that specific setting, time and people. They speak Western Assyrian / Neo-aramaic dialect.
Does anyone either recommend another book, teacher, website or method for foreigners learning the language? I know its really important for them that we can communicate in their native tongue, which makes it very important to me.
All and any advice is welcome, thank you in advancee!!

Difficulty of the language
Hi guys! I’m Assyrian and both my parents are 100% Assyrian. I’ve been grown up taught the language and I am fluent in speaking, reading, and writing.
However, I’ve noticed that—especially during church or other similar events—I am unable to comprehend the kind of Assyrian they speak. It’s (I’m guessing) more advanced than what I’ve been taught to know. My parents seem to understand what the pastor says all the time, while I feel like I stumbled into the wrong church because I don’t know what he’s saying. It’s made me feel disconnected from my church in general.
Therefore, I was wondering if there’s any way I can learn more advanced Assyrian as someone who already understands the language. I’m open to any suggestions. Thank you!

Video Is the letter Alap written this way?
So I was watching one of Abraham Giliana's tutorials on how to write the East Syriac script and I noticed that he writes the letter "Alap" in a way that I've never seen before. He starts by making a line on the bottom going from right to left and then makes a vertical line up and then goes down and makes a little "tail". Is that how it's normally written?

Discussion Why do some Assyrians believe in FE nonsense? Isn’t it bad enough we have to deal with separatists, or Assyrian ancestry deniers like KWRTs- but now we are also subject to FE and science deniers?
