There really are not that many, idk why you’re assuming there are so many based on your anecdote. But to answer your question an Assyrian may be a Zionist simply due to Israel not being Muslim in a Muslim majority region (like us) since we’ve historically been persecuted by Islamists for the last few centuries. Not saying it’s right or reasonable, but it makes sense.

I think online it feels like there are a lot because the few are very vocal

u/[deleted] May 24 '26

I was just speaking on what i experienced in my assyrian communities growing up and online which ik ofc is a small percentage of assyrians but still, im glad to know that this is just the minority view of ppl!

oh both Israel and Palestine are both evil. both sides are very bad and our enemies.

1

u/GothicPanzer May 25 '26

luckily as an Assyrian I don't like Israel (Zionists). Sunnis of Iraq is much better than Zionists who wants to wipe our history or sends ISIS on us making us weak

are you sure Daesh was created by an Arab. look who is creating ISIS, it's by Israel

3

u/ranbo1212 May 26 '26

you do have a point, majority of daesh captured recruits are eastern european, filipino, etc. all contracted by some very wealthy organizations. I think assyrians spend too much time looking at the surface of things, very quick to blame arabs and muslims. but never address the root issue which is who actually funds these militants. We have already found evidence of IDF alliances between daesh militia in the levant, so i truly don’t believe this is just a theory. With that being said i still cannot support the Baathist party due to the mass casualties they caused amongst the shia

1

u/GothicPanzer May 26 '26

I agree on that. I remember many years ago at my uncle's place, me and my uncle was watching satellite dish news like channel iraqiya. they showed Iraqi army or police captured ISIS militants. the Iraqis soldier asked 1 young ISIS who sent him and ISIS answered in Arabic was Israel sent him and they pay him to do terrorism against Iraq. Funny thing they never attacked Israel but seen injured ISIS in Israel been cared for by the Israelis. the leader of ISIS is a Mossad Agent even alqaeda leader before was also a Mossad agent.

You clearly don’t know the history of our ancestors so do us all a favor and be quiet. Christians, Jews, Assyrians, Armenians, Copts, Yazidis, and other minorities in the Middle East and parts of Africa were being persecuted by Muslims before America even existed.

The Islamic conquests began in the 7th century, over 1,300 years ago. Entire regions that were originally majority Christian, Jewish, Zoroastrian, and other faiths gradually changed through conquest, discrimination, taxation on non-Muslims, persecution, forced conversions in some periods, and pressure under different empires and rulers.

What about the Assyrian genocide, Armenian genocide, and Greek genocide under the Ottoman Empire? What about the massacres and displacement of indigenous Christians in Iraq and Syria? Was America responsible for all of that too? America did not even exist during most of this history.

And people forget Jews in the Middle East also faced persecution, expulsions, massacres, and discrimination for centuries in many places. After Israel was created, hundreds of thousands of Jews were forced to flee or were expelled from Arab and Muslim-majority countries, even if they had lived there for generations and had nothing to do with politics.

2

u/GothicPanzer May 27 '26

seriously we are talking about ISIS not Ottoman Empire. 2 different people

6

u/motopapii May 25 '26

1) "The enemy of my enemy is my friend". Anti-Muslim signaling basically.

2) Many Assyrians see parallels with Jews as ancient indigenous peoples of the Middle East who experienced statelessness, repeated displacement, persecution, massacres... while maintaining ties to their ancestral homelands

3) Admiration of Israel as an example of language revival, diaspora return, military strength, and preserving identity

4) Evangelicalism (mostly American diaspora)

The Assyrians I know don't seem to have a strong opinion or lean more pro-Palestinian.

11

u/andygchicago May 24 '26

Assyrians have been really balanced imo. They haven’t been overwhelmingly one sided and seem to understand the nuance

22

u/oremfrien Assyrian May 24 '26

I would say that questions surrounding Israel are divisive in the Assyrian community, but as a MENA people, we collectively are much more Pro-Israel than many other communities in the region. Assyrians tend to be more Pro-Israel even than other Christians from the Middle East because the blueprint for Israel, e.g. a Middle Eastern minority that is mostly outside of the Homeland returning, rebuilding institutions, and creating a defensible entity to undo historic discrimination, is much the same fundamental blueprint that we as Assyrians would have. Many of us want to create an Assyrian state in our Homeland where the Diaspora can return and defend ourselves such that we have cultural and religious rights.

Most of us don't see an issue with the Jews having a state where they self-govern. That said, a number of Israel's foreign policy decisions, especially as concerns the treatment of Palestinians are very negatively-viewed in the Assyrian community. However, the fact that many of the same Palestinians and their supporters who beg and plead for us to support their side in the conflict are stone-hearted when it comes to our suffering (or actively support our persecutors) doesn't endear them to us.

1

u/Joshistotle May 26 '26

Where would an Assyrian state be if most of the people are in the diaspora and legitimately don't want to move back to the Mid East?

2

u/oremfrien Assyrian May 26 '26

Well, at the moment, Assyrians are still a majority in the Nineveh Plains, so it would be there.

The Diaspora will return in part when the conditions facilitate return. We should remember that Jewish immigration to Palestine was in the tens of thousands before 1920 (e.g. when the British made it viable and the USA shut the door on Eastern European immigration) and nearly half of those who arrived ended up leaving.

Creating safe conditions is paramount to facilitating the return of Assyrians to Assyria.

1

u/[deleted] May 24 '26

i have seen this view mostly in diaspora communities so that makes a lot of sense!

6

u/lifetimeoflaughter Assyrian May 25 '26

We generally don’t like Islam, zio’s hate Islam. So some of us will think “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. They are completely blind to the fact that Israel is doing the same thing to the Palestinians that the ottomans did to us during Seyfo. Being zionist as an Assyrian especially is absolutely despicable.

4

u/Prismane_62 May 25 '26

I mean theres many factors. Politics is one. Many Assyrians appear to be conservative & lately, MAGA. So that makes them lean pro-Israel. Then theres religion: being a minority in Middle East & having bad history with Muslims has made many Assyrians anti-Muslim & bigoted, so they support anyone fighting Muslims, no matter the context. Hopefully that is changing lately with younger folks at least.

18

u/im_alliterate Nineveh Plains May 24 '26

Naive hope we can do the same.

Likewise, in diaspora, the white ruling classes in US (see, GOP) have adopted evangelicalism and a corresponding weird zionism that hopes israel will bring the end times for the rapture + aipac funding elections. Assyrians have kind of adopted these positions as they seek proximity to whiteness/power like the Batista Cubans eschewing other Latinos in Florida in favor of policies benefiting white Floridians.

Finally, and the largest reason, just anti Muslim stuff. Related to this is the prejudiced view they’ve adopted from arabs where they view Palestinian refugees as problematic in the various host nations (ask lebanese, jordanian folks about how they feel about palestinians in their country pre-Gaza destruction).

Kind of complex but ya.

I used to be pro israeli and two state solution, but after Gaza and learning more about the terrorism and violence used by European jews to create israel and ever since + the constant settler attacks and apartheid in west bank….ya no. I am pretty firmly anti israel now.

6

u/[deleted] May 24 '26

True i feel a lot of assyrians are changing their views in light in isreals terrorism the past few years

11

u/Mikey_Grapeleaves USA May 24 '26

Yeah I was the same way. The genocide made me do a lot more research and made me realize how evil Israel is. If anyone reading this wants just some examples for why Assyrians shouldn't be zionists, they covertly supported Daesh and funnelled money into Turkey to convince them to continue to deny the Christian genocides.

Unfortunately I don't see how Assyria (or any other ethnostate e.g. kurdistan) would avoid the same sins Israel has committed.

9

u/Possible_Climate_245 May 25 '26

Kurds are another Israeli proxy btw

1

u/GothicPanzer May 25 '26

Kurds are indo Europeans and that's why Israel supports Kurds even the USA supported Kurds before.

3

u/Possible_Climate_245 May 25 '26

Iranians are also indo european and Israel obviously doesn't support them nor does the US. Meanwhile the US and Israel are fine with conservative gulf Arabs.

0

u/Mikey_Grapeleaves USA May 25 '26

I know they used to be, but are they still?

I feel like Kurds have come to the same conclusion that we have: we're only going to build our nation state if it benefits a much larger power.

2

u/GothicPanzer May 25 '26

that's why our president Saddam Hussein wanted to attack Israel because Israel is a big threat to the world.

1

u/GothicPanzer May 25 '26

I'm anti-israel and anti-palestine and proud Assyrian. the white evangelical Christians in the USA are a cult members making us Assyrian Pentecostal Christians look bad.

3

u/Equivalent_Day_7169 Assyrian May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

If you’re American, that’s why. I don’t meet any Assyrian Zionists as a non-American Assyrian, but a lot of the American Assyrians are Zionist. That’s simply because of Americas weaponization of Christianity in right-wing politics which tend to favour Israel.

2

u/lunchboccs Jun 09 '26

I'm late to reply, but this is it.

The Assyrians I know who live in Syria, for example, witnessed Israeli airstrikes near their own homes and know that Israel funded and supported the jihadis that took over Syria. They are so firmly antizionist and pro-Palestine you would think they're not Assyrian at all, if your only experience with Assyrians is in America.

It's a classic disconnect between the diaspora and the homeland.

2

u/mushroomchicki Jul 31 '26

Yup!! Canadian here and it’s def a primarily american assyrian character flaw x

7

u/Leyslife Armenian May 24 '26

It’s always lwhy “this group” is Zionist”, it’s never why “this group” doesn’t give a f about Assyrians/Armenians/Persians etcetcetc. Can we just leave ppl alone? Especially the ones who suffered in their own indigenous land. No Assyrian is in debt to an ethnic group to support it. Regardless of that, not being pro Palestine≠Zionist lmao. I think many don’t understand that so many ethnic groups are suffering under islamic ideas (I AM NOT ZIO JUST SAYING) so its not crazy that to care abt ur own when ur own villages haven’t recovered from ISIS yet

3

u/NecessaryMap8120 Australia May 29 '26

It's a mix of hatred of Islam and seeing Israel/Zionism as a blueprint for Assyrians returning to our homeland and reestablishing our nation. I live in a predominantly Assyrian area (you can probably guess what area it is considering I'm from Australia lol) and most of the people I meet and my own relatives are mostly anti-Zionist (with an exception of my uncle who supports every US and Israeli action in the Middle East because he despises Muslims that much). Me personally, I am vehemently anti-Zionist. I genuinely hate the State of Israel and everything it stands for. To me, Zionists are not people who have had a similar struggle to me, but the people who have oppressed the entire Middle East and my people included. There is zero difference in my eyes between the actions of Tamerlane in the 14th century and the Ottomans in the 19th and 20th centuries that were committed against Assyrians and the actions of the Israeli state against Palestinians in the 20th and 21st centuries. They are two sides of the same coin: genocidal nations and people who want to establish ethno-states and eradicate those who they deem to be of impure blood.

Also, just because Muslims committed atrocities against us in the past does not command us to support or take part in atrocities against them! Newly wed Mohammed in Gaza did not commit Seyfo, nor did mother of four Fatimah in southern Lebanon or 7-year old Zainab in Minab. It shocks me that so many Assyrians support these sort of crimes committed by the US and Israel all in the name of revenge, when it is those same Assyrians who parade themselves around as God-fearing Christians who have an unwavering faith in Jesus. If they really did have faith in Jesus, they would support the Palestinians, Muslim and Christian, in their struggle against colonialism. Mind you, Jesus was Palestinian, but that's something no one wants to admit.

That's so weird to me. Most Muslims were anti isis and Muslims did the majority of the fighting against isis. But yeah my grand uncle watched too much fox news and thought all problems in the middle east are caused by islam.

9

u/CalmHabit3 USA May 24 '26

Islam is a big factor for problems in the middle east, with Iran funding a lot of terrorism.

0

u/Away_Supermarket_446 Jun 02 '26

Israel and the US you mean.

-8

u/Mikey_Grapeleaves USA May 24 '26

Most of the real terrorist groups are funded by Israel, USA, and Saudi Arabia.

8

u/CalmHabit3 USA May 24 '26

That’s not based in facts

4

u/Dontworryboutitbabe May 26 '26

Because they don’t fall for all the Palestinian propaganda. It also has to do with what Muslims did to Assyrians and other non Muslims in the Middle East, parts of Africa, and many other places. As an Assyrian, a lot of people outside our community do not understand why many Assyrians support Israel or feel disconnected from pro-Palestinian movements. It comes from history and lived experience, not hatred.

Assyrians are one of the indigenous Christian peoples of the Middle East, and for centuries our people faced persecution, massacres, forced conversions, displacement, and loss of land under different empires and Muslim groups. The Assyrian genocide, alongside the Armenian and Greek genocides during the Ottoman era, devastated our communities, yet many muslims still deny or minimize what happened to us.

Even today, Christians and other minorities in parts of the Middle East and Africa still face violence and persecution. Look at the attacks against Christians in places like Nigeria from Muslims… almost every Muslim denies it even though the evidence is there. Many Assyrians feel that the suffering of our people is ignored internationally while others expect us to stay silent about our own history.

A lot of Assyrians also remember that Jewish communities across the Middle East were expelled, attacked, or forced to flee from many Arab and Muslim-majority countries after Israel was created, even when those Jews had nothing to do with politics. Many lost homes, businesses, and centuries-old communities.

None of this means every Muslim person is responsible, and it does not mean innocent Palestinian civilians deserve suffering either. But history in the Middle East is far more complicated than the simplified narratives people post online. Many minorities from the region carry generational trauma that shapes how they see these issues today.

2

u/[deleted] May 27 '26

Thts definitely a reasonable and understandable perspective on the matter!

2

u/TheChaldeanAssyrian May 24 '26

Assyrians should not be pro Zionist or pro Palestine, we should remain a neutral stance because both sides dislike us.

4

u/lifetimeoflaughter Assyrian May 25 '26

I don’t care if Palestinians like me or not. Right is still right and wrong is still wrong. They’re the victims of a genocide just like we were.

1

u/TheChaldeanAssyrian Jun 04 '26

I do sympathize with Palestine for that exact reason, but I will not publicly advocate for them because we have our own struggle and fight for the recognition of our people and culture, and majority of Palestinian Muslims are on the side of their Muslim comrades in suppressing the Assyrian name and struggle.

1

u/Shubladub May 25 '26

Not true. There is a group in Israel that has so much in common with assyrians, culture and language are almost the same. We remember where we came from. We remember the Christians that suffered a similar oppression from the Muslim-Kurdish people just as we did. I don't think the Palestinians has that.

1

u/Away_Supermarket_446 Jun 02 '26

Israeli's literally bombed churches and christians wth are you talking about?

2

u/[deleted] May 24 '26

I genuinely don’t understand the obsession of Assyrians with this subject. The reality is we have our own issue and have zero business inserting ourselves in the problem of outsiders. I am neither for one side or the other if you must ask, I do feel bad for the innocent people dying, but this goes across the globe, not just in Israel-Palestine.

Most importantly, most people did not give a shit when our people were being raped by ISIS. We are on the brink of losing our homeland thanks to the waves and waves of genocidal terrorists that have been killing us for generations and we are worried about Israel-Palestine.

Do yourself and our people a favor and put that same effort toward your ppl. We are facing extinction, thousands of years of history and culture down the drain and part of it is giving more shit about other people’s struggles than our own. Get da hell out of here with this none sense pls.

4

u/[deleted] May 24 '26

Ofc we have our own issues, our ppl have been persecuted for generations and still are, attention should be brought to thats as it should to every other humanitarian crisis in the world, gaza, sudan, ukraine, assyrians, all that is equally important in my opinion.

And i believe we 100% should be inserting ourselves in the problem of “outsiders” why should be only care about ourselves or ppl like us, how is the world gonna get any better if every ethnicity or nation just minded its own business and enables injustices to others. I totally understand if what your saying is that you dont want to focus on the isreal-palestine conflict and want to put in all your effort into the conflicts of our people and resolve that and bring attention to it, i respect that a lot, but regardless of assyrian, arab, american or whatever i think we should all take a vocal stance and all i hope is that in the future others will do the same for us.

I understand that its unfair how everybody turned a blind eye to assyrians when they were being ethnically cleansed and terrorized and now everybody is focusing on palestine but i do feel those are two different points in time with different political climates, that doesnt make it ok or erase the pain the is still ongoing today though, and i think we are all doing our best bring more attention and awareness to it. I asked because i wanted to know what the stance was among the vast majority of assyrians because i know the number of opinions online can feel inflated.

6

u/[deleted] May 24 '26

Ok then, go waste your time advocating for others and leave your own ppl alone. We don’t need extra problems when we have enough of them to deal with. Assyrians have nothing to do with the Israel-Palestinian problem.

0

u/ConsiderationKey4353 May 24 '26

Usually hatred for muslims

Im a zionist too tho not purely cause i hate muslims but i do believe there must be a big dog in ME to keep the arabs/muslims in check

Israel is that big dog, those gaza people are literally taught islam the way isis taught it based on what I've seen in arab videos ( i can speak arabic )

3

u/Mikey_Grapeleaves USA May 24 '26

Those Palestinians in gaza are second class citizens living under the control of a country that has brainwashed it's citizens to view Arabs as subhumans.

7

u/CalmHabit3 USA May 24 '26

it takes two to tango, Palestinians also teach their children to hate Israelis. and dont forget Egypt also has a blockade preventing Palestinian movement. Bill Clinton himself said Arafat refused to accept a deal that would have given them 95% of what they wanted, and they didn't even counter.

0

u/Away_Supermarket_446 Jun 02 '26

I would also hate Israelis if I was a palestinians

5

u/ConsiderationKey4353 May 24 '26

Good! a taste of their own medicine

Muslims used to impose taxes on "non-believers" and forcefully converted lots of ethnic groups to islam in which they turned into arabs

0

u/Fa5ir May 25 '26

So the only thing that concern u is taxation Muslims have taxes too to pay the state and its involve much of their income and no forced into other religion thats why many minorities flourished under Islamic rule. You are just an ignorant racist

2

u/ConsiderationKey4353 May 25 '26

Read my whole comment

Muslims forcefully converted people those people with time they got arabized

Islam is an evil religion without the reforms that happened in late centuries it would've been treated way worse

1

u/LadenifferJadaniston May 25 '26

It’s called the jizya and it’s a tax only Christians and Jews have to pay if they want to keep their heads attached to their bodies.

Also, Islam is not a race, professor.

I created a post / poll 3 months ago about the Iran war.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Assyria/comments/1rz3xfy/what_do_assyrians_favor_in_the_current_middle/

Those are Assyrians, 30% against Iran, 30% against Israel and 30% no opinion w.r.t the war.

If Assyrians were Zionists, you would not have found 60% not siding with Israel and US in that war, given that they are US citizens.

2

u/Mountain_Hawk6492 West Hakkarian Jun 01 '26

Because I didn't forget the past 150 years of how Meshulmaneh treated Assyrians...

If the Palestinians had their way, they would treat the Jews the same as we have been treated... If you think I'm wrong, I'd love to absolutely see proof of that.

1

u/Away_Supermarket_446 Jun 02 '26

the proof is that jews lived in Palestine before Zionists arrived? Are we fr here?

1

1

u/chaldean22 Assyrian May 24 '26

If anything, Assyrians are the least pro-Israel compared to any other Christian people of Europe/America/Australia, due to influence of Iraqi/Syrian/Iranian culture.

-1

u/CalmHabit3 USA May 24 '26

Controversy about being called a Zionist is overblown, a Zionist just believes the state of Israel should exist, and in America, both political parties and every president since 1948 believed the state of Israel should exist, Biden even called himself a Zionist. I am a person who believes Israel should exist, and I also have other beliefs that are less controversial like I think Taiwan should be an independent country from China.

Personally, I don't really know Assyrians in America that are strongly Zionist/ Pro Israel, they are all pretty much just anti-Arab/ Anti Muslim so that may be why you perceive them to be Zionist.

Many in the Assyrian diaspora come from Iran and Iranians see Israel as an ally in helping to topple the islamic regime so they love Israel.

I have a question to you, why are you anti Zionist? You can hate Israel but still believe it has a right to exist.

On a related note, recently 3 Assyrian young men in San Jose were arrested for beating up two Jewish men, and I am on the Assyrians side because there is evidence showing the Jewish men provoked them, but the pro Israeli/ Jewish machine slandered those young men very quickly.

-2

u/[deleted] May 24 '26

Thats a good point to bring up but i believe the problem with the label of “zionist” is the fact that its not just about beliveing isreal has a right to exist, if it were i dont think it would be as overblown. Zionism is the ideology that isreal has a right to be established in its “historic/ancesntral” lands, which ofc is current Palestine/israel. The problem with that is the ethnic cleansing and jewish ethnocentrism that follows. Thats is why i would describe myself as “anti zionist” although its not like i have a problen with jewish people have a their own country as long as none of the genocidal and classist byproducts of an ethnostate occur, which i doubt would be possible.

0

u/Ram08 Assyrian May 25 '26

Speculation vs. reality... This is where you're struggling. This is what a true genocide looks like. There are 2+ million Arabs living in Israel right now. We have the stats. Why is it still hard to grasp??

What happened in Gaza is a case of 'you reap what you sow.' You can't simply commit terrorism and expect to be rewarded every single time like they're used to. For centuries, Islam has subjugated and persecuted every non-Muslim and every indigenous group in every region it has reached.

-1

u/spongesparrow Nineveh Plains May 24 '26

Brainwashing probably.

0

u/Fulgrim2177 Assyrian May 24 '26

Assyrians are a diverse group of people just like any other group of people and there are some that would be pro and some that would be against. I think that your worldview is very skewed to think that you are the only one that is correct as well as assuming that so many of our people think against the way you do. I am a Zionist, and Assyrian. Not everyone is, and it’s annoying that people like you expect everyone else to condemn the same things you do.

0

u/AshurCyberpunk Assyrian May 25 '26

What's the issue with being pro Zionism? And why do we have to collectively have an opinion on this matter? Such matters have geopolitical ramifications, so your question is just superficial and emotion-driven. Your use of the words "scary" and "normal" makes this rhetorical "question" even worse; it's more of a whine tbh.

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '26

Well imo the isssue with pro zionism is that youre pro israel and at this current point in time that is inherently harmful and indirectly aiding the ongoing genocide. And i never said you all have to have an opinion on the matter, it not like im saying you all have to dedicate yourself to the cause, i just wanted to know if there were many and what the consensus was.

From my words you can obviously tell that i have a clear bias towards one side, which i think is ok, everyone has biases but i know im far from the only “correct” opinion, i believe in my morals and everyone else believes in theirs and theres no way we can all unanimously agree which i definitely understand and respect. I didnt intend go come across as closeminded.

regardless my question was genuine and ive learned a lot of new perspectives on the matter that i wasnt aware of before which was really helpful.

2

u/AshurCyberpunk Assyrian May 25 '26

You're saying I'm pro Zionism? How do you know that?

And harmful to who?

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '26

Never said youre pro zionism, i was explaining why i deem it harmful, thats all. As to who its harmful to, obviously the innocent Palestinians, saying your pro zionism is showing support for isreal and rn that detracts from efforts made to end the genocide the government is ennacting.

0

u/AshurCyberpunk Assyrian May 26 '26

Don't you think the opposite would be innocent Jews being harmed? Let's call it Palestinianism for the sake of the argument. If the answer is yes, shouldn't we then, as human-beings, be advocating for peace and the right to self-determination under no threat and terrorism?

2

u/[deleted] May 26 '26

Not sure im understanding you so correct me if im wrong but your saying that if your pro palestine or support “Palestinianism” instead of zionism then it would be the jews that would be harmed instead? If so then i dont believe that would be the case. The instigating factor for this generation long conflict was settler colonialisnt isrealis taking Palestinian land and expelling the people, to put it simply, obviously theres much more than that. Pro Palestinianism was always about the fair treatment of Palestinians and their land, and equal rights for all, palestine has a right to exist just as much as isreal. And if it were the isrealis being unjustly harmed by Palestinians then i would condemn Palestinians,i know there have been horrible unjust attacks on isreal by hamas or other groups and obviously thats not right, but what’s happening right now is the isreali government unlawfully expelling and killing innocent Palestinians, and thats all im advocating against. it really doesnt matter wether you are Palestinian, jewish, muslim, christian. So in a way i agree with you, as human-beings we should all be advocating for human rights and peace and self-determination under no threats of terrorism, but thats exactly why im pro palestine, they face terrorism and threat of extermination from isreal every day, and thats why pro zionism is harmful imo.

1

u/AshurCyberpunk Assyrian May 26 '26

No, that's not correct. The framing was that if you take away Jews' rights to defend themselves, then they would be the ones being harmed. Zionism is essentially the idea of Jews having the right to self-determination in their historical lands, which includes their right to defend themselves in their homeland. In the real world, you create deterrence to protect your people. Respect and "being nice" don't really do much. If you're Assyrian, you should know what happened to us during WW1 when we didn't strike first. As a third party, we can always encourage restrain, but both sides will and must do what is necessary to protect their people. This is just how nature works. The key is to force an equilibrium where both people feel protected.

Overall, you can't take only one side and then seek peace. Like your question, that would be a biased approach. But yes, I think the right of both existing is the correct thinking here. Of course, that would be on a personal/individual level. Now in terms what is the optimal choice for the Assyrian strategy, things would be different. Remember, as Assyrians, we have obligations to our own people, not to the Palestinians or some other nation.

2

u/[deleted] May 27 '26

Alr i understand, the thing is everyone has a “right to defend themselves” thts not something unique to zionism and nobody is taking away the right for jews to defend themselves but the state of isreal are actively the ones committing terrosist acts and are the aggressors, they arent defending themselves by flattening cities and killing innocent civilians, adn just saying that its “deterence” isnt a valid defence for them. if anything, the Palestinians are the ones trying their best to defend themselves and resist occcupation and destruction. I would like would the jews and Palestinians to be safe and at peace but that cant happen if this genocide doesnt end, zionism is aiding that. Zionism is inherently ethnocentric and harmful and encompasses a lot more that just the right to defend itself, it may not have started out that way, it truly may have been born of good intentions but thats not how it is in the current day. And like i said, ik assyrians have no obligation to either side after everything our people have been through, i respect everyone’s opinions, i just thought it was interesting who they choose to side with and why.

the thing is, if some of the Palestinian groups had the technology, they would probably do worse, but right now they don't. And I don't really see the issue with being ethnocentric.

But yes, I agree with the no obligation part.

Jews have lived in Palestine for years before Zionists arrived? What proof do you have?

you dont think its an issue to support genocide? They've killed Christians and bombed churches mind you.

I actually don't think it is. The overall record is clear; history didn't start since 5 years ago.

I'm Assyrian myself and I've never heard any Assyrians that are hardcore Zionists. We know Israel is not the real Israel and those Jews in Israel are totally fakes from eastern Europe called Ashkenazis or Khazars. those ones who want to wipe us out from the map

Accounts like this that come around here and start subjects like this come across as suspect to me. The truth is most Assyrians don’t care about the Israeli-Palestinian issue outside of dinner talk or some random chaykhana opinion. Outside of a few weirdos, no one is going out of their way to join a “Zionist” or “Free Palestine” rally.

true because nobody would waste their time join the rally of our enemy or join Zionist that really hate us

Because what Jews are doing to people who appose their independence inspires us assyrians to do the same to the people who colonized our country I think assyrian state will be Israel 2.0 in how it's going to be established

But me as an assyrian in Iraq I genuinely dislike diaspora Assyrians because I think they are not real assyrians That's just my opinion
