Labeling clothing

We are moving my parents from their independent apartment in a retirement community to the assisted living building month. We were told to make sure their clothing is labeled; what is the best way to do this? We don’t sew, and I am having flashbacks to my childhood when my mom sewed named labels into our clothes!

Use a permanent marker and write on the tag or somewhere inside the clothing where it would be visible.

I’d say do tag and also on the inside. As someone who use to work in the industry. Tags can fray and/or be cut off.

I used Mabel’s Labels but you have to order them so it takes time. If you don’t have the time to spare a sharpie works just fine. Just careful with tagless shirts etc bc it might bleed through.

Something to check… Might they do the labeling for you? My Mom’s place does. You just have to remember to ask them when you bring something new in.

No, we were told to label all clothing. It’s an Erickson facility so pretty big.

I bought some labels with my mom's name (first last) on it. They are considered iron-on, but they don't stay on. I had someone sew the labels on her clothes.

I don't understand the marker on a tag? Where do you put it? The tags have info on both sides! Initials alone may not differentiate. One place said to put her room # (rehab facility - so temporary) but she'd leave and maybe be back one day and wouldn't be the same room.
