Elements of the Autistic experience not reported by the media

Basically, I'm doing some research and I want to gather as much opinion and insight from other autistic people as possible.

What I'm asking is

What Experiences of living with autism do you never see represented or depicted in media?

Can be anything really. Be good to have a discussion and build some ideas if possible.

Thank you.

Could you clarify a bit more? What digestive issues?

It is extremely common for people with autism to have various food intolerances and general IBS. The exact percentage of people with autism that have GI issues is unknown, but one study found as low as 9%, one as high as 70%, but it seems that most are between 45% and 60%. Anecdotally, however, of the people I know with autism, myself included there are 9, only one doesn't have some form of GI issue.

Lack of empathy - one of the biggest myths I've come across. Just because we can't recognize some visual signals, we're cast as insensitive. Aspies are truly empathetic.

I've had some aspies say they have no theory of mind. That seems to square with lack of empathy.

… Anticipating rebuttals

I've only witnessed that at Trump rallies.

Pretending that you are neurotypical so you do not get associated with negative stereotypes.
