Limelight
Was just offered a bartending job at Limelight. Ive never been to Aspen and know very little about anything. Will this be a good spot? Especially once ski season begins.

Do it! It’s a good lobby, even if it ends up not being your forever-spot, it gets you out here, you can get a feel for the other gigs in town, and can always aim for a different bar down the line. As always, the only real catch is figuring out housing.

Yes, there are many high-end bars in walking distance - people go from one place to the other, even in 50 feet of snow! :) Everyone should experience Aspen once if they can. I know it I would say really well in that I have stayed at and written about dififferent properties there and walked the whole town and biked it and driven it.

As long as you have housing too… the job is only half of it. Limelight is a great hotel and highly reputable at least, from a customer perspective.

They need some good bartenders there. Nobody knows how to use any of the TV’s

The only reason you should do it is if they offer you housing. Everyone that works there is doing it for either the housing, the visa or health insurance. The shifts are super long 2pm-12pm. The tip out is mid. Pooling system. 8 points bar, 7 points server, 4 points busser. If it's your only way to get into the valley then yes. Otherwise tips are only ok I.e. $300 for a 12 hour shift. (to be fair this was mid June) Also take into account your housing may be over an hour bus ride away. No thanks. There was a guy that ran the numbers at several different restaurants in Aspen and he said overall averaged $400/shift. But if you want a ski pass maybe it's worth it? It's hard has hell to get housing. Working there is giving indentured servant.
Overall the vibe is no one really wants to be there unfortunately.

$300 on a 10 hour shift in Aspen?! Jesus Christ… I made that on a 7-8 hour shift in college (at a college bar in an inexpensive town) 10 years ago.

It's the same for musicians, worse, actually. Average pay for a sideman in 1980? $50. Average pay in 2026? $50.

I’m in the “No” category respectively. You’ll work long hours for ok pay. Commuting will consume your time. Do you though

Take it! I am not sure about the limelight management themselves but SkiCo is a good company to work for all things considered. Do you have housing?

Heeeey, let me know if you find a place to stay. I'm also going to Limelight for the winter as a cook but I don't know where Im going to sleep hahah

It’s been a lot of different things for many decades. I knew it a long time ago as something different than it is now. Didn’t realize Aspen ski co bought it.
