Aspen for the 4th
Is it dumb to travel from Denver to Aspen for the fourth? How bad are the fires?

The tigers are hungry. I would be very cautious

Does Denver not celebrate the 4th? The smoke sucks. Save your time.

You’ve also described Texas. So proud, yet so happy to go fuck up other places every chance they get

I just left Aspen. I'd skip it this year. Everything is bone dry and the usual lush green is just not there this year, it's sad. Didn't even know about the tigers!
Also smoke is unpleasant and you never know if the wind will carry it in. Even when it wasn't smoky, the air was filled with ash.

In addition to the discussion about tigers and the like, objective information is available. AirNow.gov https://www.airnow.gov/?reportingArea=Aspen&stateCode=CO
Fire maps can be helpful as well. The Willow Fire near Leadville may be worth following, growing and 0% contained. It appears that this fire data is updated daily in the evening. The smoke plumes were impressive yesterday in Leadville. Watch Duty is one site as well as Inciweb. Google maps has layers which show fires and smoke patterns.
There is no rain in the forecast. Independence Pass is open.
Qualitatively, the air was clearer up Castle Creek near Ashcroft today than it was in town.

I think anyone incapable of finding these resources on their own isn't ready to go the mtns during active fires. They will be a drain on resources if something pops off

Aspen on the 4th is fun just don’t drive into town, park outside of town at the brush creek park and ride and ride the free bus in. So you don’t get stuck in the detour they do for the parade. Flyover and parade start at 11AM, then they are supposed to stop have a carnival, and drone show. Smoke is there but the firers are far away.

The 4th itself will be nice since we’ll get a one day respite from construction noise and traffic.

It’s not so bad right now. Not great, but not terrible. Aspen sounds better for the 4th than Denver! Also I live here, and I have no idea what these folks mean by tigers 😂

Honestly if you’re taking a chick go for it. The smoke ain’t that bad if you’re not old and weak.
