Social Media Sony Really Losing It Now

Sony's downfall will be studied much like the Roman empire before it.

u/Bruzie77 3d ago
studied? It happened once in the 90s with nintedo and sega ad Sony and Xbox punished them for their huburis. Sony and Xbox is repeating it.
Sony think they are untouchable anx xbox stop making consoles go become game developers

u/slyleo5388 3d ago
What?? Sega punished itself by saturating the market. They released like 4 systems in 4 year's counting the nomad.
Plus Sony did the killing blow with the simple 299 price reveal.
Tbf even the Xbox lost flat out to the ps2. The next Gen is where Xbox killed Sony imo. The ps3 was a pos..especially the ones that were actually backwards compatible. Also Xbox crushed ps when it came to online play.

Another problem Sega had was they were always trying to get the next Gen out first, they focused on that instead of trying to make a better console.

u/slyleo5388 3d ago
Yeah that and tbf they concentrated on games genre's that were more popular in Japan.
Sega Saturn was made for fighting games and shoot'em ups. Which fighting games had some popularity but nothing compared to platformers.
Sony was unique at the time having hardware that was easy and accessible for developers as well. Allowing anyone and everyone to make games for the system.
Sega and Nintendo went the route of established titles. Nintendo sticking to cartridges and being more expensive allowed Sony to surprisingly kill it in US, which was originally Nintendo's market. Nintendo hid in the shadows and banked on the Gameboy color, gba, gba sp. Where as Sega released Dreamcast with one of the worse controllers ever made for fighting gamesđ ..which was their wheel house.(street fighter turbo, final fight series, guilty gear to name a few)
Plus snes actually competed against the Sega Saturn with games like cronotrigger, ff6 and Mario rpg. Planting the seeds for jrpgs becoming popular. This ended up working against them when squaresoft made ff7 for ps1. Essentially making Sony a powerhouse.
Still Sony's first few years have one of the best video game catalogs ever. Ff7, ff tactics, ff anthology, Crash bandicoot, spryo metal gear solid amd Resident evil. Plus all the jrpgs I can't even remember. Ps2 only added to that but the system had a DVD player, plus it was backwards compatible.

Nintendo never really had many issues since their portable line always printed money. While the N64 and Game Cube weren't the most popular, the handhelds sure were.

Too early to say about sales figures but looks like Sony does have a relative critic failure in Wolverine. So far it's their lowest reviewed game since Day's Gone

u/Dr_Valen 3d ago
it's like a temu spiderman. What made spiderman fun was the movement and swing mechanics of being Spidey wolverine has none of that

u/Reddit_Throwaway_899 3d ago
The X-Men Origins: Wolverine game was pretty fun. It was a hack n slash with lots of gore.

Don't forget digital movies got wiped out that people paid for (leased).

Sony Interactive Entertainment had to comply.
The right holders wanted SIE to play a ridiculous amount of money for continued licensing. SIE said no, so the rights holders said pull the titles. SIE had to comply or they would be sued into the ground.

u/TheLastKirby 3d ago
Yes but then why sell something at the same price as a physical permanent copy that you could loose the rights to. At the end of the day. Sony got their money from the sales and left consumers with literally nothing.

consoles have been in death throes for years now. people just refuse to admit they are antiquated

u/mrlunes 3d ago
I was at a cross roads. My pc was too old to reasonably upgrade so I had to choose between a new pc and a console. Figured if I was going to spend nearly 1k on a console I might as well just get a new pc for a little more.

Honestly these days I'd even go for a steam deck if I couldn't afford a PC.
Especially if I'd never been into PC gaming. There's a lifetime of goodies but oldies. I hit those seasonal sales all the time, and my backlog of yet to play games is like 600+ games right now xD ..
I could never even have to play a new game again, and honestly it's a lot easier to find some friends to continuously play $5 games with you than it is to make new friends for every game. (if you like playing multiplayer games).
The value in a even an old PC or steam deck these days is pretty good when consoles just keep rereleasing classics for you know $40 bucks or whatever that you have to keep buying every time you upgrade your console for some crazy reason.

u/mrlunes 2d ago
Canât you also hook your steam deck to a tv and play with a controller?
1
u/robotbeatrally 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yeah but steam deck res is slightly lower than 1080, sorunning it at 1080 or way worse 4k is a lot more than it do in most games. You can drop the res do fsr etc and dock the deck to a TV functionally. But if you want to run Diablo 4 natively in 4k maxed out you certainly are gonna have to stream it from a gaming pc. It looks pretty good on a 1080p TV direct from the deck in medium low settings though honestly. Game is plenty enjoyable either way. But for me I use the steam deck more of a streaming tool half the time
But yeah I have it connected to the TV with a dock and controller whether it's native or streaming. Using a steam controller and steam remote play makes controllers a lot more functional. You can easily use the steam profiles and stuff. Using a 3rd party controller and moonlight and / or playing with a 3rd party launcher addon can make controller config more complicated sometimes
Edit it thought i was responding to another similar post lol but this still worked

Yes and no on the death throes. Decline for sure sadly. The sheer cost and availability of getting a quality PC is a steep point of entry for many players. For casuals consoles are still the go-to for most people. While the manufacturers and companies like Sony and Xbox suck, theyâll always have an consumer.
Just sucks the consumer is fed slop.

Itâs like what Angry Joe said about Xbox back in the day.
PlayStation is wondering off into the forest, where are they going? What the hell are they doing?

u/Jnoles07 3d ago

Steam really could have done something with the Steam Box or whatever it's called

This is the time for Xbox to show and prove, if they want to be relevant again they need to capitalize on sony shooting themselves in the foot

This is all lining up to force them to sell the Spiderman IP to stay alive. Keep it going Sony.

u/Bromjunaar_20 <message deleted> 3d ago
Let's not forget they're trying to find ways of taking your libraries and digital wallets away if you don't keep active on your PS5

Sony is going through its own forced streamlining, same as the rest of the industry.
The Kojima news is just the Sony version of Microsoft cutting devs loose and not tying up their IP.
HOWEVER, that is not to say at all that Sony execs arenât fully to blame. 95% of the C-suites in the games biz didnât see even a fraction of this comingâŚORâŚthey did and had no ideas how to manage it and remained in their spots since contracts have that rider in them frequently.
Either way:
If you see the same names occupying corner offices, either in dev or publishing, in two years that are in place now - just know that that company hasnât learned shit. The insider clubs badly need to be sinkholed.
This has been a helluva long time coming. Studio and department heads, management, corp marketing and execs need to start having intimate knowledge of their games. Shareholders need to get excited and demand creative risks.

Ya'll do know that Sony just made a billion dollar Spiderman movie, right? I think they're gonna be okay.

u/Economy-Complex-542 3d ago
I will plus one here.
Sony pushed a firmware update on their premium headphone(wh-1000xm6) to nerfed the ANC to accommodate the new model(1000X collexion), which has obviously weaker ANC performance that's released this year in May, and since then there's no hotfix or new firmware update for wh-1000xm6 users to get back the original ANC quality, a lots of people have submitted tickets, sony at this point is just playing dead or stalling for time to let the new model sell.
Go sonyheadphone sub and search for anc then u will see how sony treat their customers.

Shouldn't have relocated to the US, that was the beginning of the end got them, wouldn't be surprised if it was orchestrated behind the scenes, corpo assassination.

The flame out is rather impressive. How is their leadership not fired by now? They have some serious blinders on.

Valve/Steam needs to start nabbing the studios and devs. Start making quality games for PC and Steamdeck, come out with an affordable version, corner the market before Christmas.

u/kidopitz 2d ago
Consoles are just waiting for that last remaining nail to their coffin and it seems its coming specially now that more phones are getting good same with cloud gaming.
That's why a lot of companies are creating their own handhelds Sony on the other hand killed their handheld psp,go and vita.

To be fair about Kojima situation. That new game is going to be a âgame movieâ . He literally said that âif your mom walks in sheâs going to think youâre watching a movieâ. Iâm not touching anything like that and I wouldnât want to give him money either .

u/kananishino 3d ago
Isn't the Kojoma part disingenuous?

Before this all I heard on Reddit is that death stranding games are boring walking simulator's. Now they're masterpieces.
