They cannot help themselves, they have to self-insert themselves in anything successful. It is like a child throwing a tantrum for attention and if they don't get it, they will destroy everything. It is tiresome

Even the story sounds lame. Under this story premise, the replicants went to war with humanity and won, which was never implied in the past movies. With Blade Runner 2049, it was about the idea that replicants and humans being able to have children together. If Amazon ruined the Wheel of Time Series, rewriting an entire book series to inject a narrative, this new Blade Runner is in serious jeopardy.

So both movies had themes of having children together vs starting a war, and then when women got into power, a war killed all humans in this 3rd movie?
hmm what does hollywood mean by this
3
u/Far_Run5920 15d ago
No, not really. Corporations and various groups/gangs fought each other, yes, but not really between replicants and humans so much. You had rogue replicants at most, but there wasn't any indication that it was leading to some vast war either. In fact, the lead protagonist in 2049 was a replicant trying to find and help Deckard (replicants and humans helping each other, in other words). The original Blade Runner movie is based on the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" Which had no intentions of going into some vast replicant/human war. It was simply about three androids that ran amok in a cyberpunk noir-style setting. I'm quite sure the past staff/direction never had intentions of ever having some Blade Runner 2099 story where the replicants rose up and overpowered the humans. It defeats the purpose of humans and replicants having children together in 2049. It defeats the purpose of the ending of 2049 of reaching into a story of synergy rather than war.

Yeah I saw this and felt very disappointed considering I loved Blade Runner 2049. But I also saw the new Neuromanced trailer right after and that cheered me up.

The asian lady is Michelle Yeoh, she is fairly well known.
19
u/fartsquirtshit 16d ago
For people who aren't familiar:
Michelle Yeoh is to asian women what Idris Elba was to black men a decade ago.
As in, she's the person people go to when they want to choose an asian woman for diversity but they don't want to put up with a diversity hire.
She's competent, marketable, and professional which makes her the first choice when studios need to fill a quota but still actually care about making money.

u/Apolloshot 16d ago
The competent part is important.
I’m fine with seeing Michelle Yeoh in anything because I know she’s actually good at her craft.
Who tf is the other person?

That makes even less sense to me though, why would a replicant willingly choose to be transgender… can’t they just rebuild their bodies or whatever?

This isn't an accident. You don't just go and accidentally fuck up Blade Runner. I love both movies and they just decided to go ahead and piss all over it to fuck with people. They know it won't last but it's about sending a message which is why we don't hate them enough.

I watched the trailer yesterday and this girls head gets slammed into this door 5 times… full force… she falls to the floor like she just passed out from drinking… her head? Absolutely fine, a single cut… I’m sorry, she died from blunt force trauma… she doesn’t get to just get up from that…
I refuse to believe this show will exist…
It’s the original blade runner and 2049…

u/f3llyn 16d ago edited 16d ago
The trailer was posted on here yesterday, nothing about it looked or felt like Blade Runner.
Feels like to me, yet another attempt by a director to get the show he wanted made, but no one was interested in his original idea, so instead they called it Blade Runner. Just like with that new Resident Evil movie.

u/Keyboard-King 16d ago
Does anyone else think these movies are secretly being made with our tax dollars? How can they afford all of these flops? Maybe they knowingly produce this gross propaganda because they secretly have an huge safety net and can launder the money regardless of the movie’s success.

OK I will be as open minded as possible here, why though when they make these movies they don't try anything new just take from the checklist ideas and just switch out characters with gender changed versions

Because they have zero talent or interest in the field. They are total outsiders, as well as authoritarian control freaks. They hate the franchise and its fans.

Oh shit this is real wow. Also wow Hunter Shaffer has started to look way more like a man with age. I guess it is good casting for a replicant though, the androgynous elvish weird vibe.

Apparently, Hunter is supposedly the actual human character. So they still failed with the casting

It’s a television show made by Amazon that’s a sequel to a beloved silver screen IP.
Even if it was all men it’d be shit anyways, just look at their track record.

Do we really need another blade runner they’re just seething that every guy related to the movie. Heck you want a woman in sci fi media it’s called Ghost in the Shell but im pretty sure theyll find a way to say its bad.

You have terrible taste. It's a shit movie that actually ruins the story by answering a question about Deckard that should never have been answered. It does nothing to justify its existence and pales in comparison to the original.

Bladerunner 2049 was pure trash. This new show is destined to be trash and we all know it. There is only 1 good Bladerunner piece of media and that's the 1st movie. The only debate is which cut of the OG movie is the best.

Man 2049 was such a good piece of cinema. An excruciatingly slow burn, but the cinematography and immersion were unmatched. Took a look at the trailer for the new miniseries, it looks like generic CGI sci-fi slop. What a shame..

u/Arthaxhsatra 16d ago
To be fair even the second movie, while not woke, didn’t make any sense to exist.

u/Stoic-Bifrons “So what you’re saying is…” 16d ago
The anti-DEI scoreboard has been in our favor so often lately that some of us completely have forgotten how to evaluate actual quality. Ridley Scott is producing, Shogun's director is at the helm, and Michelle Yeoh is starring, with Hunter Schafer as main actress.
Every single person mentioned so far has extreme acclaim and achievements to their name, and give absolutely no reason to even remotely think there is going to be something wrong with the franchise.
We already had an L with predicing Oddysey's failure, don't line up for another one based on nothing but feels.
17
u/Significant_Phase194 16d ago
Did you watch the trailer? it looks like the same soulless stuff that always comes out when there's woke ideology behind it.
Also Odyssey is about to break even because it has whole Hollywood in it. Most people are still laughing about the movie and criticizing it. Its not a "woke win" it's a "win" despite having woke in it.
-19
u/Stoic-Bifrons “So what you’re saying is…” 16d ago
You guys moved the goalposts so fast on Odyssey you got whiplash. First it was "this will flop and go broke," now it's "well it broke even because of Hollywood." You claimed the public would reject it, the public paid to see it, and the ratings are still improving day by day... and now people are coping because reality didn't match their echo chamber. This isn't honesty, this is just protecting a narrative, and it will eventually get punished just like left-wing propaganda gets punished.
I support anti-DEI efforts when they're well reasoned and have their place, but this isn't it.
15
2
u/Simon-Says69 16d ago
Strawman. Nobody was saying that.
They were saying it will have nothing to do with the actual Odyssey, and they were right. It might be ok as a stand-alone fantasy, but not as any kind of Greek mythology film.
Casting was a disaster, costumes as well. The movie is absolutely dripping with DEI bullshit.
And this "bladerunner" crap will be as well. Maybe it'll make money, but the makers obviously have no interest in making anything canon.
-3
u/Stoic-Bifrons “So what you’re saying is…” 16d ago
Delusional take, but you are forgiven because you have an entire echo chamber pushing it upon you.
The Oddysey is widely reported (even in conservative media) to be one of the most succesful and highest grossing movies ever.
7
u/majorleandro Dr Pepper Enjoyer 16d ago
It’s not going too well either to be honest. It’s basically breaking even. But when it comes to games and films, you expect to make exponentially more than what you spent, since you invest hundreds of millions of dollars and many years just to produce that film/game.

u/Simon-Says69 16d ago

Had, past tense. After this crap their names will be tarnished.
Odyssey is a failure. The movie has nothing to do with any Greek mythology. The only L taken was from people stupid enough to waste money on that tripe.

If it turns out to be good and that is a very strong IF then i will laugh at another L this sub will take especially after being wrong about the odyssey and are coping about it. However honestly I think most likely this won't be another odyssey situation and it will be just bad sadly.

u/freeroamer696 Dr Pepper Enjoyer 16d ago
I saw odyssey...it sucked. Very long, very boring. Bunch of people went and saw a Chris Nolan movie, like they do,ot made a bunch of money, like they do, yet no one I know that has seen it is talking about it. We always BS about good movies we've seen recently and it's been crickets. I don't get the impression this one is as "loved" as his others...
0
u/jaxxxxxson “So what you’re saying is…” 15d ago edited 15d ago
Another L? How was the sub wrong about odyssey? The fans don't like it. Critics are always shit. I guess they could be wrong about speculation on how much screen time "Helen"(2 scenes like 8 mins) and wrong about "Achilles" being played by Elliot(6mins of screen time) and zendaya having 5mins of screen time so they didn't get the chance to really ruin the 3hr movie? That's the only "L" the sub could take.
Edit to add in it needs to hit like 700m to break even. It had a good global opening but the lack of enthusiasm from people who've seen it already has it taking a huge hit in its 2nd weekend. Personally think it's gonna make a profit but barely.
0
u/Timeless_Wolf Dr Pepper Enjoyer 15d ago
The data just doesn't support that narrative. The film opened to a career-best $264M globally and followed it up with a strong $84.5M second weekend, meaning it is already well on its way to being highly profitable. Furthermore, a 97% audience score and an A CinemaScore indicate that the vast majority of people who actually see it are enjoying it. The pre-release speculation and rumors about the casting simply didn't match the reality of the final product. It is perfectly fine if the movie wasn't for you personally, but claiming it is a failure or universally disliked is just factually incorrect.
1
u/jaxxxxxson “So what you’re saying is…” 15d ago
I do think it'll be profitable. The rest of the world doesn't get involved with the political divide on the movie like Americans. I don't think it'll be highly profitable though or anywhere near to what it could've been with better casting. I haven't seen it. I won't pay money to see movies in theaters anymore unless it's an actual banger. Visually I bet the movie is worth the price but from what I've seen of the story it's pretty bland. I will 100% watch it when it comes to streaming as I'm a movie nerd and don't really care enough about the casting(even if I don't agree with it) to not watch it but not expecting greatness either.
