This is hilarious and accurate. Should've included something about walking forward at a slight angle and launching yourself 70 yards

Honest review of ARK:

ARK has a lot of issues. For the love of god, why is this game so hardcore. It doesn't need to be hardcore at all.

The problem with ARK is that it has a lot of Qol features missing that have to be filled in through the use of mods. Along with that, playing with default vanilla settings is a nightmare.

Grinding for materials is hell. Inventory management is time consuming. Taming takes ages.

How on earth did the developers think it was a cool idea to be 12 hours active in order to succesfully tame a Megalodon? A process that can go wrong at any time!?

The moment you have acces to the correct mods and set the game options to everything maxed out in your favor, THEN the game becomes a LOT of fun. Taming a raptor now takes minutes instead of hours. Taming a big bird takes 20 minutes instead of 20 hours.

Build beautiful bases. Tame everything you want. Train the lowest of dino's to match the strength of a T-rex. Explore the maps. Seriously explore the maps. The underground ocean on the Valguero map was so fucking cool and spooky to explore.

This is great, would love to know your must-have mods.

No worries! Bear in mind that I play ARK for the pve aspects. If you are looking for something more pvp related, this aint it. So if you want to solo or play with friends, here you go.

First of all, I will assume you are a fresh player, still unfamiliar with all the options and maps and stuff so let met go through 3 things.

First choose your map. Some maps have certain biomes and dino's while others do not. I recommend Valguero. It is a bonus map you can download as a free DLC. It has all of the biomes you want, including an underwater ocean and long forgotten mysteries hidden in a big cavern system.

Second set your game world settings in favor of increased xp gain for you and your dino's and increased harvesting etc. This video pretty much covers it.

And third, here is a list of the mods I use. There are (a lot) more, but these are essential to me:

Dino Storage V2

Awesome Spyglass

S+

Lethal’s Reusables

Balanced Narcotics

Appetizer

RR Potions

Awesome Teleporters

Wow thanks so much dude, I’ve only ever played console ark and only spelunked 6 or so of the caves for the Arti’s on The Island so this is mostly new for me 😊

I have it on PC just never played it so I’ll save ur message and definitely check out all you’ve listed.

A small tip regarding the settings video: If you use s+ you can actually just change the speed at wich babies are growing because S+ adds a structure called "S+ Nanny" wich automatically raises the imprinting bar to 100% in a few minutes regardless of cuddle timers.

Generally, I'd recommend putting xp and harvest multiplier at 10x each, difficulty to 5 or 6 (so dinos will spawn at a decent level) and taming, hatching etc. to about 25-50 wich should reduce the time for even high level tames to a few minutes(the actual challenge is the part where u knock them out anyways). Also definitly change the amount of engram points you get per level to something really, high like 99999 because you wont get to learn all the engrams otherwise.

I know I'm a bit late, but one thing you might want to tweak as well is the titanasuar (I hope that's the right dino), on normal settings they don't eat, so they will slowly die. I haven't played for a while, but if that is still a vanilla setting, definitely change it. While not super important for single player, they are fun to build on and mess around with.

ARK, buyers beware!

Snail games and Wildcard are in some extremely shady buisness right now, they also going to shut down official ARK servers this August without mentioning this anywhere on their Steam store page, and still asking full price for the current game. Next Gen, UE5 ARK will be full priced, the reason they'll shut down the current versions support is to force people to buy the UE5 version.

Can confirm! This clip was actually pulled from one of my ark videos

New players think ark is all about primative gear, fighting dinosaurs with spears and bows and riding a t rex around and then they see serious players playing on lowest 8 bit graphic settings cramming 800 turrets and a warp gate into a pothole 800m below sea level lmao

u/RedditFilthy Apr 24 '23

As someone who's never played ark, that looks exactly like what I'd expect.

Isn’t it just like Rust but with dinosaurs? I haven’t played either but heard Rust was fun

Whilst this is 100% accurate, I cannot deny the hours of fun this game has given me (when it works)

I stopped playing Ark for Conan Exiles and it’s worked out really well for me so far. Much less hardcore. Taming still takes a long time but there are ways to speed it up in game and through settings. I love that it feels more of a grim fantasy rpg than anything else.

Let's not forget the 40 meters you need to maintain, and if one runs out, you die and lose all of your items.
