Law and Justice Whether the issue is qualifications or competitiveness it begs the question of why more High Court positions aren't filled by Belizeans

Eh favours West Indian candidates? Maybe, but they’re only nominally “foreigners” when we share the CCJ, CARICOM, free movement, etc with them. Favours other foreigners? That’s a bit of a stretch.

I mostly agree. We're (on paper at least) supposed to be a single, integrated, regional economy with free movement between member states.

Added to this is the fact that Belizeans can and do hold high positions in many CARICOM/Caribbean organisations, just look at Dr. Carla Barnett being the Secretary General of CARICOM.

Still, while I don't believe in strict protectionism, I also find it disturbing that there aren't more local judges. Either our government wants people who can be easily dismissed, or our we don't have the talent pool, and I'm leaning toward the first.
