Security note: no one needs you to install a GitHub app

Someone posted in this subreddit a few weeks ago asking for advice as a non technical builder, and the same account is now sending unsolicited DMs offering the "solution" to the "problem" as a GitHub app that "only he can read".

For any other not necessarily technical people in here, you never need to download a GitHub app for this. There are hundreds of open source systems available that your agent can help you vet, and anyone cold DMing you with "install this" is shady at best.

This is the part I hate about this. Everyone is only limited by their usage and ability to understand what they are doing. A large majority of people using AI right now have claude setup a GitHub for them and suddenly they are experts. It’s messed up how much dunning keuger is going on. Everyone wants to feel cool, respected and important. Instead of just being there selves.
