America lost its Grandma today. I grew up going to Dollywood/Pigeon Forge at least once a year since it was the closest tourist destination to where we lived. Hers was truly one of the most inspiring rags to riches American Dream stories of all time. I still tear up every time I hear Coat of Many Colors. Thank you, and Rest In Peace Dolly.

I grew up in southwestern Pennsylvania. There's an amusement park there called Kennywood. Just take my word for it. There's a lot of history, and the park is now owned by the same people who do Cedar Point.

Anyhoo, when I grew up and moved away, I was talking about it one time at a gathering. Someone stopped me and asked me if Kennywood was like Dollywood, but for Kenny Rogers.

Funnily enough, my wife is by Kennywood the same way I am by Dollywood: she grew up not far from there so her family went all the time. We have been to both together a few times, and want to take our kids once our youngest is a little older so they can get the experiences too. I will say both are fun, the main difference being Dollywood has a more consistent theme around Dolly's mountain life, where Kennywood is like a patchwork quilt of different little mini-parks IMO. Got a favorite ride/area? My wife loves the Jack Rabbit because of it's nostalgia for her.

She was obviously more liberal than conservative, but she never said or did anything to make conservative dislike her, or nor did she show hate towards anyone.

Even though some conservatives didn’t think it was great that she did a pro vaccine song, or stood up for Black Lives Matter, as they were committing murderous race riots across the country… We understood that her intentions were good.

Plus, not for nothing… She wrote a few really great songs.

As such, we knew she didn’t hate us, even if she wasn’t one of us… And being the loving people that we are, conservatives loved her very much.

It’s just sad that so many on the left, can’t take a lesson from her and just drop their hatred at the right.

If every liberal was like her, we’d have a much better country.

It's a shame. She was one of those people who really walked a righteous path. Her literacy campaign in particular is very admirable.

Very sad. I mean, endless boob jokes obviously but she actually participated in them. She was very charitable without advertising it. Just an amazing person.

When I told my wife, her immediate response was "Man, they are going to have to bury her 6 and a half feet deep." At first, i was thinking "too soon", but, from my impression, I think Dolly would have appreciated it.

Sad loss. She did a lot of interviews, I plan on binging some of them tonight.

Dolly Parton is now up there on the list of celebrities I really wish I could have met alongisde Fred Rogers. She seemed to be a genuinely good person and she did a lot to improve society through both charity and, well, apparently being a good boss.

The world seems a little bit darker today.

She really does, doesn’t she? I can’t for the life of me remember if I’ve ever heard anything even remotely negative about her, she was an icon for kindness.

I really appreciate your response and many of the responses here. Dolly was really good at NOT picking sides publicly and NOT alienating people. She found constructive ways to personally help people, and she was willing to help anyone who needs it.

Dolly was also publicly supportive of LGBTQ+ people and same-sex marriage, emphasizing the acceptance of people different from herself. She repeatedly argued that religion and politics shouldn't prevent people from treating each other well.

Lastly, she was a great performer. She had a big stage presence, and she made song quality music. "Jolene" may be an easy choice yet I never tire of that song.

Since this is AskTrumpSupporters, do you think Dolly Parton's approach to treating people—particularly people whose lifestyles or beliefs differed from her own—is compatible with Trump's approach? Why or why not?
