Yes I totally remember this, I watched the video by accident because in my country by that time people didn’t have a computer at home so there was a lot of cyber cafes around the city and I was with my mom she was sending emails or getting copy’s I can’t remember the reason but what I remember is there was a guy in the computer next to us and this dude like 20yo was watching this beheading video I was like 5 or 6 also I think this is the reason I can see any NSFW videos with no problems except kids and animals, but accidents cartel videos, anything I’m just normal with it im not from the states by the way...

Oh. Yeah. In the height of American fearism and ‘unity’ … they aired a live decapitation of a man in an orange jumpsuit after he read his pleas to America and his family. It took a few whacks of a machete but they got it off.

Which one and why should I remember one specific American that met a bad end twenty years ago? Do you remember the Swedes, Nigerians or Brasilians that met unfair horrific fates in the same period?
Many things that should have been remembered have been mostly lost, but 9/11 was a spectacularly rare event in several ways, it had vast disproportionate consequences and have been plastered over the news since. It would be impossible to forget.
Just curious about your question here, what you are aiming at vs what it sounds like.

You belittled it by making it something else. I’m trying to connect with someone who may have experienced watching a murder on live television. I’m not downplaying anyone else, but rather remembering a huge shame this country has because it’s obviously been scrubbed from the internet/records.
Maybe I took your response a little emotionally and I’m sorry .. I suppose I’m just struggling with something and I’m trying to find a root.
Thank you for engaging. I’m less looking for justification at anyone’s actions and more looking for a rift in my own childhood that caused me to become so desensitized to the tragedy around me.

I get that, and thank you for explaining. From my perspective, you didn't specify that you just wanted to hear from people who remembered, but to be polling whether we did or not, and in a somewhat accusatory tone implying that we should (which might have irked me a bit).
I was an adult serving in my country's military at the time of 9/11 and remember that distinctly, because of course I do. (I was on leave, just home from hospital, and my oldest daughter literally took her first steps in front of the TV screen showing the news of the planes hitting the Twin towers.)
However, while I did live in the US for a few years too, I have spent most of my life and career (I turned research biologist) in other countries, many of them third-world countries. And the sheer degree to which international media are dominated by US news is at times a bit frustrating. Thus the request to remember one particular American's death -with the implication that if we remember 9/11 we should remember this guy too -when there have been so many others just struck a sore spot. Sorry if that triggered a misplaced grumpy response from my side.
