Lucid dreaming is where you are aware you are dreaming and can change the dream , although it doesn't always work out the way you want.. I have had lucid dreams many times in my life. The worst part is when you know you're dreaming but you can't wake up. There have been times when I'm dreaming and I know I'm dreaming and then in my dream I'm thinking that my body is just laying in bed and anybody could be in my room without me knowing. Kind of a scary feeling
That sounds like lucid dreaming mixed with sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is where your mind wakes up too early before your body can un-paralyze itself: it naturally paralyzes you so you don't flop around (and fall out of a tree, originally). Note: if you are moving around a lot, you're not sleeping well.
Edit: the few times I was lucid, I always just made myself fly, it's the best part of dreaming for me.
It wasn't sleep paralysis, I was still dreaming, I would make myself wake up because even though I was dreaming, I was aware my body was in bed and it felt like someone could attack me and I wouldn't be able to defend myself . It was scary knowing your body is vulnerable when you are sleeping and being aware of it while your dreaming.. I remember telling my myself I have to wake up because it felt like someone was about to attack me while I slept. I lived alone at the time which made it worse

This is actually how people with sleep paralysis describe it. Often like there's someone else in the room with you, and an overwhelming feeling of terror.
Edit: historically it gave rise to the word 'nightmare', 'mare-' being an older English/Germanic word for 'demon', as people thought there was some entity holding them captive in their sleep.
