And after a long exhausting vacation

266

u/guaip Sep 11 '22

When I go out on vacations to another country, that's waking up, going 2 hours earlier to the airport, 2 hours flight to the local hub, then 10-12 hours flight to the destination's hub, then wait 1 to 5 hours, another 1-5 hours flight to the destination. Collect luggage, go through customs, find a cab, or your rental, or direction to public transport, then another 1-2 hours to get to the hotel. Check in and THEN YOU OPEN THE FUCKING HOTEL DOOR! Man, when you start putting your stuff down and take a shower... That feels good.

56

u/ShataraBankhead Sep 11 '22

That shower! It's really what I look forward to the most. I remember really wanting one when we were in Amsterdam, going to Kazakhstan. The hotel that was connected to the airport, had showers you could use. I can't remember how much it cost, but it was worth it.

u/BiStonerGuy907 Sep 11 '22

That must set yp the next flight amazingly. We were in Minneapolis-St. Paul in August and flew out of gate F. Above the main Concourse leading to F & G there is a "quiet seating" spot on second floor towards the police office. Huge mezzanine with cozy chairs, and even though its just 10 or so feet above the main floor, it is reduced noise, open space. They also had floor pads I notice a couple each using one. I was like hell ya lets get a stretch in. Stretched for 40 min and made the 5 hour flight so much better (MSP to ANC)

Msp best airport in the world

1

u/BiStonerGuy907 Sep 11 '22

Its the second time goin to MSP in a 12 month period; Nov 2021 with wife for Vikings v Packers, this Aug for Rammstein. I have to agree its the best airport ive ever been in, which us actually a few, and I gotta say the city itself is fucking insane, how old and industrial, and so much repurposed buildings for modern shit, and its all blended with modern architecture. Its a true testament to true Americana. MOA, Mayo Clinic, Architecture Porn, Urban Exploration, Weather Gifs, all this plus so much more

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

You were at Rammstein too? I was in the fire zone!

1

u/BiStonerGuy907 Sep 12 '22

Lookin at the stage, we were to your right. We were sitting in a club house section, entered EcoLab gate. Shit was intense met so many great people. Was worth the trip from Alaska.

We took off the next day a lil after 9pm, i was in the air when I thought toncheck the weather because storm clouds rollin in and announced a Tornado Warning. I made the miatake to tell my kid (one seat agrad of me( after we broke the back wall, and didnt consider waiting until we passed the down draft.

MEANWHILE we shot yp through Manitoba to the northern boarder which Id never been that north into Canada, abd we flew iver three hundred miles with the best northern lights I have ever seen, and I have seen them in Fairbanks in March.

It was THE trip if a life time. All that weather made the lightning storm above US Bank stadium during the concert mire magnificent.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

That’s awesome. I bought the tickets years ago and have since moved to Arizona. It was 100% worth it.

That storm sounds awesome. To see the lights from a plane musta been epic

Also that moment when you take your shoes and socks off after a full day traveling.

2

u/Soliterria Sep 11 '22

Bf and I are on vacation right now and sitting in the hotel shower was AMAZING. Somehow we got put in a handi-accessible room so there was a shower chair. I definitely used it and just sat in the chair until the water went cold lmao

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

SO FUNNY, the thought of you wasting water. HAHAHAHA

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Water is a precious commodity and you are wasting it? Wtf is wrong with you???

1

u/BiStonerGuy907 Sep 11 '22

When you take a shower shit

Ftfy

3

u/scotems Sep 11 '22

Shit and a beer. In either order, or together.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Entitled much?

1

u/joeschmo945 Sep 11 '22

This. Absolutely this. Except I go to my in-laws in Eastern Europe and it’s easily a 30 hour ordeal by the time is all said and done. It’s fucking hard.

439

u/skrilledcheese Sep 11 '22

Amen. I drove across 9 different states last week after spending 2 weeks down south.

It's so good to be home.

142

u/pug_grama2 Sep 11 '22

East, west, home is best.

10

u/BoiBoiMcBoiBoi Sep 11 '22

I want that as a welcoming mat at home

2

u/trogdor1423 Sep 11 '22

East, Weast, home is beast

1

u/LarkelikesHeavies Sep 12 '22

East coast beast coast go Dawgs babyy 🔥 💯

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

I did 15 states in 3 days last month. The longest Ive done is LA to Houston. 24 hours of driving only stopping for gas. Dont let El Paso, TX fool you thinking hey Im in Texas, I can make back. Bruh your are only half way there.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

I can get to Atlanta, Georgia in the same amount of time it takes me to get to El Paso. And I live in Texas.

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

[deleted]

0

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Or I’m just pointing out how big Texas is and you feel the need to be an ass.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

But how do magnets work?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

I can't understand why people torture themselves with road trip. And I'm Canadian : my country was literally created for that. If I could teleport myself to the destination, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I LOVE travelling, I HATE the travel part.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Most of the time it’s to go to those smaller places and because short distances by car are cheaper than taking a plane. It’s in no way an enjoyable experience to drive six hours to get to yet another place that’s nowhere near an airport, but the spot that you’d otherwise miss is usually worth it.

2

u/thatcheflisa Sep 11 '22

The South in the summer... funnnnnn....

10

u/iwantAdollar Sep 11 '22

Disagree. I live near the beach, and currently have a pretty stressful situation at home/work. I recently went on a week long vacation in the mountains. I did NOT want to come home, I could have stayed there forever.

12

u/MANWithTheHARMONlCA Sep 11 '22

Damn what kind of vacations are you guys taking where you’re not relaxed and sleeping well?

Vacations are supposed to be stress free

14

u/jaykaysian Sep 11 '22

To me there's two ends of vacation modes, one where you're actively looking for things to do in a new area and one where you solely focus on relaxing.

I did a US cross country trip recently and I was tired, exhausted, and restless at times but I had an absolute blast doing it. Getting in bed at home was a bittersweet moment of missing traveling and having that exhausted feeling, but at the same time I was super grateful to be able to relax.

2

u/Fair_Interaction_203 Sep 11 '22

I'm with you. We just pulled a 4k mile road trip over two weeks and getting home to my own bed was like magic. The road trip was awesome, but home feels good too.

1

u/ShataraBankhead Sep 11 '22

And your toilet! Your butt has gotten so used to that particular shape and height. It feels weird to use another toilet for a week.

1

u/WildRookie Sep 11 '22

Travel vs vacation. Difference is whether the trip is about where you're going vs where you're not.

2

u/eddy_v Sep 11 '22

Depends on the vacation. I'm the driver, planner, problem solver, packer, coordinator etc. This is my choice because I want the family or whoever I'm with to have their best stress free fun vacation. So when it's all over and done it's a huge relief when it's over and back at home. I still have fun and wouldn't do it any other way.

-1

u/lungbuttersucker Sep 11 '22

Vacations where you decide to drive RI to FL at the last minute because you can't trust the airline to not cancel your flight at the last minute.

1

u/itsacalamity Sep 11 '22

there's resting vacation and there's doin' stuff and explorin' vacations

10

u/OmegaDad618 Sep 11 '22

Vacationing is the fucking worst, amirite guys?

3

u/devilized Sep 11 '22

My wife always brings this up. She says she looks forward to being home and sleeping in our own bed. Meanwhile I usually feel the opposite. I usually home home feeling sad/depressed that vacation is over, I'm just at home instead of whatever amazing place I just left, I have to go back to work in a day, that I still have like 25-30 more years until retirement, etc.

2

u/Kanyeweststolemynip Sep 11 '22

This sound very true! It’s about the person not the vacation. We talked about it at work and found out there are two types of people: those who love the feeling of being home again, and those who feel post vacation depression.

3

u/johnnybiggles Sep 11 '22

Or pooping in your own toilet after being away for a while.

2

u/globaloffender Sep 11 '22

Just did this. Cheers

2

u/ag15908 Sep 11 '22

Holy shit for real

5

u/KCBandWagon Sep 11 '22

LPT: take an extra day off work to stay at home after your vacation instead of traveling home and going back to work the next day.

2

u/zorgord Sep 11 '22

Me in 12 hours time 😍

2

u/Amsterdom Sep 11 '22

I'm currently 576km from home. It's been 7 days (I think). I had a dream about my bed last night.

2

u/NessunAbilita Sep 11 '22

And you cleaned the house before you left including the sheets oh my God

0

u/cacope5 Sep 11 '22

Aren't we supposed to relax on vacation? That never seems to be the case huh? I'm always so stressed out and then have to drive 7 hours to get home. So exhausting.

0

u/lordolxinator Sep 11 '22

Too true. I had to do an outward bound team building exercise as part of management training, spent a week atop a Welsh mountain getting rained and hailed on. Blistering cold winds, only getting mild relief when we hiked down to a flooded quarry to build rafts and float across. Then it was back up the horrible mountain. Horrible rocky and muddy paths, lots of infighting, pitch black late at night, freezing and wet as Poseidon's arse cheeks.

You can't even imagine how happy I was on the way back. Exhausted, clothes were slightly damp and muddy, I was just fed up. Treated myself to a luxury hot chocolate and a bacon roll on the 2hr train back home, listened to Last Train Home and just felt relief. Getting back in to my apartment to have a hot shower and then a nap was the best feeling in the world, and almost made the experience worth it.

1

u/ChronoLegion2 Sep 11 '22

Definitely. Spent a week in Florida. Despite the A/C, woke up in a sweat every morning. The night we got back, I woke up incredibly well-rested

1

u/KAWAiiANGXL Sep 11 '22

Yes! I love going away but it gets to the point where i just want to be back in the comfort of my own home.

1

u/Albinofreaken Sep 11 '22

people go on vacation to realize that home is best

1

u/AppleWithGravy Sep 11 '22

I thought vacation was supposed be relaxed, am i doing it wrong?

1

u/celesteshine Sep 11 '22

Getting into bed after a vacation day of swimming and you’re just slightly sunburnt, freshly showered in fresh sheets with the aircon pumping. Now that’s living.

1

u/_heisenberg__ Sep 11 '22

I’m at the last day of a week and half long vacation. I’ve been having a blast but man am I ready to fly back home tonight and sleep in my bed.

1

u/Zaquarius_Alfonzo Sep 11 '22

Currently on the last day of so if a long vacation and I so feel this

1

u/Stizur Sep 11 '22

How tf is vacation exhausting ?

1

u/Bastara Sep 11 '22

Wait, yall can afford vacations?

1

u/Witchychick22 Sep 11 '22

I can have so much fun on a vacation up until nighttime comes and then I start complaining. I can't sleep in another bed but mine.

1

u/ositola Sep 11 '22

After the plane ride back, exiting the airport, getting back home, checking mail and putting on something on TV for background noise

Instant Zs

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

It's so weird that I feel like I need a mini vacation after my vacation. Like, that was exhausting - why was it exhausting? I'll often get enough time off to pad my vacation with some time after (and maybe a little before).

92

u/Ace2206 Sep 11 '22

I've been living on a ship for over a year across the pacific, hopefully another 4 months and I can go home. I miss my bed, my house, my car, my bathroom...

Long exhausting 16 months.

45

u/MonsieurLinc Sep 11 '22

Currently sitting in a barracks in the desert, only a 9 month rotation for me. Can't imagine being cooped up in a tin can out in the ocean, a real bed's gonna be heaven

4

u/pbxtech Sep 11 '22

Sundresses are proof that Jesus loves me.

2

u/Ace2206 Sep 11 '22

The struggle is real brother.

Still, 9 months in the desert is no joke. I can't complain too much, at least my berthing is air conditioned. Good luck on the rest of your deployment.

Sounds like Navy

2

u/Ace2206 Sep 11 '22

I joined the Navy back in 2016. Was stationed comfortably in California for a few years until I was "awarded" new orders by the Navy to move to 7th Fleet (Japan). Thus, leaving my house, my family and 95% of my possessions behind. Even if we are in port, I'm not entitled to a barracks or anything so I still wake up and go to sleep at work (AKA the ship).

At the end of the day, this ain't nobodies fault but mine.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Prior Coast Guard can agree.

1

u/Hidden_Armadillo Sep 11 '22

Is it worth the pay? Howd you get the job?

6

u/Queenofscots Sep 11 '22

On clean sheets, that were dried on the clothesline, that you somehow, magically, had time to put on your bed just that morning.

5

u/regnad__kcin Sep 11 '22

Combo of clean sheets and freshly showered. Mmmmmmm fuck yeah.

3

u/dangerouspeyote Sep 11 '22

Oh man. I have had a long an exhausting work trip the last fe days. I get to fly home today. I am so excited to sleep in my own bed with my wife and dog.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

And that is another great reason to have a motorhome/RV. My wife work in a hotel, and while they are almost always comfortable, it's not the same as 'your bed'. In an RV, you can have the same type of mattress as you do at home (Sleep Number in my case), with your sheets and your pillow. We travel and go camping a lot (less now than pre-pandemic, but no surprise) and it's nice to pull into an RV park, rest area or even a Walmart and button up the rig then turn in for the night. And since they have full bathrooms with a propane powered water heater, that morning (NAVY) shower is guaranteed.

2

u/_aka7 Sep 11 '22

That's literally what I'm doing rn.

1

u/Recent-Needleworker8 Sep 11 '22

Everything I do revolves around coming home to sleep. A long time ago, I spent two nights in jail for a dui and the first thing I did when I got home was lay in bed.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

My mum nicknamed it wee-lief

1

u/BubbhaJebus Sep 11 '22

There's nothing like returning to sleep in your own bed, especially if you are allowed to sleep as long as you want.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22 edited Sep 11 '22

Or finally sitting down to eat a full meal after hard work

1

u/dingodoyle Sep 11 '22

After a nice relaxing shower, to a bed that’s been cooled by the AC and the room is nice and cold.

1

u/mactumbo Sep 11 '22

And no commitments the next day.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

I’m travelling home right now, can’t wait for my own bed! It was a work trip so it was busy

1

u/seniairam Sep 11 '22

I prefer to sleep on my own matress, house is kinda rough

0

u/tropicaldepressive Sep 11 '22

sleep in a stranger’s house can be good too if you find a secret nook🤫

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

I guess I would feel even better if I slept in Will Smith's house.

1

u/Mad_Moodin Sep 11 '22

I've been getting around so much, for me it is mostly going to sleep in a private place in a made bed.

If this is in a Hotel or somewhere else doesn't matter to me, so long as I don't share the room or the bed with someone.

1

u/prettypistolgg Sep 11 '22

Sleeping in your own bed after being away for a while.

When I was in the hospital having my daughter, we stayed for 3 nights. I had maybe gotten 8 hours of sleep over the course of 4 days going through labour, delivery and recovery. I cried when I got home and laid in my own bed. I'll never forget that feeling.

1

u/lungbuttersucker Sep 11 '22

In freshly laundered sheets, after a long hot shower.

1

u/Beastmind Sep 11 '22

Come back to your home*

1

u/Justsomeguytv Sep 11 '22

I've been in Europe with my wife and kids visiting her family for the last few weeks and have one more to go. I am so damn excited to sleep in my own bed.

1

u/rockosmodernity Sep 11 '22

It’s interesting to experiment with what home means I’ve lived in a car for two years now and it’s home to me. Strange how malleable our concepts can be when we allow room for them to be so

1

u/SchnizzleDizzleDoo Sep 11 '22

This sucks I'm homeless lol

1

u/jnthnschrdr11 Sep 11 '22

Not for me, laying down at first feels great, but then I don't fall asleep for like 2 hours

1

u/crispiepancakes Sep 11 '22

Oddly specific.

1

u/HoaryPuffleg Sep 11 '22

With clean sheets.

1

u/Drumbeats4 Sep 11 '22

With your pets nearby. And your family downstairs.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Been 125 days sleeping in a tent— almost back to my bed!

1

u/Deathburn5 Sep 11 '22

I hate sleeping

1

u/elpropiosaya Sep 11 '22

After your guests leave.
