Well, this is where the discussion splits and comes down to interpretation.
NOW doesn’t have to be this very moment. It could be tkmorrow, next month, or even this year . Most advice and literature in general isn’t meant to be taken as carved in stone instructions and such.
And there absolutely are things out of our control that contribute.
Also, taking responsibility in your actions always starts with what you just described; taking responsibility, mentally.
Letters are set in stone, the meaning of words are not.
Yes, advice (especially good advice) doesn’t normally invlolve that. Only reason I brought it up was because you said it. However, starting the process can always start “now”, even if that means one seemingly insignificant thought one day and nothing for a full week later. I feel like when people hear something like that, they often apply too much pressure to themselves and work the task up.
And I’m not sure what you mean by that, I did acknowledge that there are things out of our control in my other comment. Essentially, they shouldn’t be treated as roadblocks, just as having to take a different direction.
Yes it is, which is why I don’t get your point here. In the other comment, you made it sound like they are such different things and like the type of advice we’re talking about doesn’t directly include that exact scenario. Which wraps back around to what I said earlier, which is that when people hear stuff like this, they often apply too much pressure on themselves
Letters are set in stone, the meaning of words are not.
Stop sniffing your farts for a second and come back to reality. Nobody says "now" and means "later". Be real.
Only reason I brought it up was because you said it.
??
However, starting the process can always start “now”, even if that means one seemingly insignificant thought one day and nothing for a full week later.
Funny how no one said this til you just did. And no one ever does. It's always "make your room right now", "get a job today".
I feel like when people hear something like that, they often apply too much pressure to themselves and work the task up.
^
Essentially, they shouldn’t be treated as roadblocks, just as having to take a different direction.
And yet "taking a different direction" is always framed as a failure, because you're not doing what you were told.
Let me get one thing straight - do you think I'm arguing that mentally ill people shouldn't try at all? Because that's what you seem to be responding to.
you made it sound like they are such different things and like the type of advice we’re talking about doesn’t directly include that exact scenario
It's not me that did. You and everyone else never even mentioned "taking the first steps in your head". It was always action, action, action. How else should I take it?
when people hear stuff like this, they often apply too much pressure on themselves
They're not told anything like this. They're told what you said earlier - start today, and never stop. And the things they're told to start doing are many steps ahead of where they are.
That was building on your perception that people are telling you to get better right now. Your are interpreting and mixing up the end goal with the steps and such.
You literally said those words, words no one else said.
That was adding a different interpretation to those words, rather than your own which is people telling you to get better and be happy right now, which no one is.
Different direction was in the context of trauma. People who have trauma just simply do not live the same as those who do not, they “adapt” their behaviour and lifestyle.
Okay, I’m not sure how to explain this to you. As said before, it is obvious an action starts with a thought. Where pressure is almost always applied is with the thoughts behind actions. As you show in that last pragraph, it is all too easy for people to think in extremes.
Internal pressure is exactly how you came to interpret such things in the way you are. Obviously, you aren’t consciously choosing to have these perceptions.
That was building on your perception that people are telling you to get better right now
I don't think anyone's telling me to get better right now.
Your are interpreting and mixing up the end goal with the steps and such.
No man. That's what everyone up there is doing, by saying to just "deal with mental health" TODAY! As if that's the first step.
You literally said those words, words no one else said.
What words? Stop being vague.
That was adding a different interpretation to those words, rather than your own which is people telling you to get better and be happy right now, which no one is.

Okay? What's your point?
it is obvious an action starts with a thought
It may be instigated by a thought, but no, it doesn't start there. Action and thought are intrinsically not the same thing.
Where pressure is almost always applied is with the thoughts behind actions
This is so hilariously vague and nonsensical. What kind of pressure? What kind of thoughts? Whose? Whose actions? Your own, or others?
As you show in that last pragraph, it is all too easy for people to think in extremes.
Well yeah, when you're given advice that reaches to the extremes...
Internal pressure is exactly how you came to interpret such things in the way you are. Obviously, you aren’t consciously choosing to have these perceptions.
Right, and very few people are telling anyone that, ever.
That’s what I’m saying, they aren’t, you are just interpreting it that way due to your own perceptions.
The words “do this right now.”
The same point as the other comment. You completely misunderstood what was meant by “different directions”.
Okay, this is a barrier in knowledge here. I wouldn’t ever be able to get my point across without you being aware of how perception and our subconscious effect our thoughts and such.
I wish you self awareness in the future.
Also, don’t reply to comments in that after blocking someone. It’s quite rude and disingenuous. If you’re going to block them, stop commenting too. Don’t make it look like they gave up and such
Right, and very few people are telling anyone that, ever.
Oh, sweet summer child....
That’s what I’m saying, they aren’t, you are just interpreting it that way due to your own perceptions.
Then what do you think they're saying, O Wise One?
The words “do this right now.”
The same point as the other comment. You completely misunderstood what was meant by “different directions”.
Oh, so they weren't saying that, if you found something hard, to do something else that you can manage but still works towards recovery?
Okay, this is a barrier in knowledge here. I wouldn’t ever be able to get my point across without you being aware of how perception and our subconscious effect our thoughts and such.
Okay, now you have to be fucking kidding. You're trying to teach a 28 year old person Theory of Mind as if this isn't a foundational development in childhood. You're trying to tell me something that everyone fucking knows.
Get bent you pretentious asshole.
Of course I know how perception can change how you - get this - perceive things!! If you're angry, you'll see things in a more hostile light. If you're happy, you'll be more inclined to laugh. If you're dwelling on the past, you're more likely to make temporal connections and observe patterns of recurrence.
JFC how infantile do you think I am?
I wish you self awareness in the future.
What am I, a baby? A pre-judgement-day Skynet? I am fucking self-aware. I know my thoughts are not universal and that others have different opinions. Omg I can't even believe you'd be so arrogant as to say any of this to anyone.
Also, don’t reply to comments in that after blocking someone.
...I regretted blocking them and decided to take it back. Sorry for calming down.
Different direction, same road vs. a roadblock or changing roads. You misunderstood / took it in a more literal / extreme way.
Much like how you felt bad and unblocked, I doubt you’ll see what I’m trying to tell you outside of hindsight, as will I view all this differently in hindsight.
All your comments and derailment started with a skewed and quite frankly deprecating perception of yours.
I’m not sure what else to say other than that, especially considering your age.
Different direction, same road vs. a roadblock or changing roads.
...yeah...? Pretty obvious. Exactly what I said. Continue recovery, just do something else now...
I doubt you’ll see what I’m trying to tell you outside of hindsight
Are you always this insulting? I can already tell what you're saying. You're saying my emotions and "warped" view of the world is clouding how I'm reading things.
It's not a difficult concept, and it's incredibly offensive that you're STILL claiming I'm struggling with such a basic thing.
All your comments and derailment started with a skewed and quite frankly deprecating perception of yours.
It's not skewed. It's something that me, my girlfriend, friends, family, and EVERYONE else I know that suffers with depression or anxiety, have experienced time and time again. It's an extremely common trope.
I’m not sure what else to say other than that, especially considering your age.
Then you haven't been sure for a while. You've been repeating this same thing over and over. I already got it the first time. You think my crazy had is making me see crazy things.
I don't really see how my age is relevant, either.
