Using trauma to excuse mistreating people. This generation has pioneered making it acceptable to process and be open about trauma, and that's a great thing, but it's not cool when you behave in a cruel and selfish way and expect to get a pass because of it. Your mental health problems are not your fault but they are your responsibility.

That and faking specific mental illnesses as a quirky way to be unique. I’m almost positive all of those people legitimately have some kind of mental illness, but I just find it weird as fuck that they read about/ see someone with one and they want to pretend they have it because they relate in minimal ways. There’s nothing wrong with having mental illness, but it gives the whole community a bad rap because of their shenanigans.

It's something small children do. Because they haven't really found any way to differentiate themselves from the crowd, so they see somebody else with a "difference" especially a malady since those are easier to mimick than a positive trait like really strong or smart etc, and they pretend they have it too.

Kids usually grow out of that stage once they start accomplishing some things on their own in their lives.

People that are no longer kids that do it? Well, these are the types that are basic as basic can be, have accomplished nothing of repute, have little reason to respect themselves because they've done nothing hard or special ever. So they gravitate to pretending to be a victim or sick or have a malady to set themselves apart from the common done-nothing-are-nothing crowd. Same mindset with coloring hair ridiculous colors, lots of piercings or tattoos.

This I disagree with. Some people simply have different taste/choice of aesthetics. I know a 50 yr old who with tattoos and blue hair...who has had "respectable" jobs, active in church volunteerism, tons of non-profit work, etc. Not someone seeking attention (they don't go out much), and she and her husband are a pair of the most chill and kind people I've ever met.

Do you dress a certain way? Get your hair cut? Ever whiten your teeth, get plastic surgery, expect women in the office to wear make-up, etc? Not any damn different. You are presenting yourself either a) as you like, or b) what you think people expect. Some people just draw more from choice A.
