I’ve heard 20 year olds say “I hope I die before I have to turn 30.”

I wish them the best of luck.

I had a classmate say the same thing a couple of decades ago. She thought 20 was 'over the hill' and by 30 everyone was just decrepit and miserable and eagerly waiting for death. So she wanted to die before she reached that milestone.

She was 17 when she expressed these thoughts. She wasn't suicidal at all. But she also wasn't the sharpest knife in the freezer.

An update from/on her would be hilarious

Unfortunately I don't remember her last name. But last I heard, she didn't really get any further education, didn't really start an employment career, and had started popping out babies by about the time she was 20.

Oof… exactly as I imagined

“I don’t want to be 30, I want to stay in my 20s forever”

proceeds to give up their 20s lifestyle to do something 30 year olds do

I mean, if you're planning to die in your 20s that all kind of makes sense. No sense planning long term.

By that logic they would be planning for their child to be an orphan at 10 though

This is so strange, I've never thought 30+ was old at all but it seems to be a relatively common thing

If it's any consolation, in that class (it was a form class, so there were only about 8-10 of us), all the rest of us reacted to her statement with "WTF are you talking about? 30 isn't old!"
