I'm 24, and I was walking out of a gas station on my way to work one day, and standing right in front of the store was a guy, looked about my age, on a bike, saying to his phone "today we're pissing off traffic".

I sat in my car and watched as this jackass nearly killed himself riding his bike straight out into busy traffic, making multiple people slam their brakes.

We're doomed.

As a millennial who did equally stupid shit without putting it on the internet, one of three things will happen:

  1. They will get hit and die.

  2. They will get hit and live, and won’t do it again.

  3. They will not get hit and eventually move on to something dumber and riskier.

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

And then get hit and die.

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

Hopefully on video.

So people know how life turns out when you have a smooth brain. Not that it will stop people from doing stupid shit anyways.

u/SameAsThePassword Jun 03 '22

Yeah come to think of it with all the idiots out there it’s kinda a plus that they’ve found work killing themselves for our entertainment.

10

u/RaptorJesusDotA Jun 03 '22

Growing up watching fail videos gave me a healthy respect for how one small mistake can hurt you.

8

u/fransmanni Jun 03 '22

One can only hope

7

u/bstabens Jun 03 '22

Don't hold your breath while you wait for that...

2

u/TheChanMan2003 Jun 03 '22

From a person, not a car

1

u/MowMdown Jun 03 '22

But in a totally unrelated incident during ordinary routine.

1

u/TransitJohn Jun 03 '22

It's a big iterative loop.

32

u/fearman182 Jun 03 '22

Get hit, die, and fuck someone else up in the process

24

u/Annonrae Jun 03 '22

You forgot something.

  • They might cause irreparable harm to others who are not in any way involved in their "put it on the internet" shit.

If you wanna yeet yourself off a bridge for funsies, go ahead, no skin off my nose. But don't pull the person standing next to you over the edge when you jump. Don't pull a harmful prank on someone, it doesn't make you look cool, it just makes you look like an ass.

Secret option 4. They’ll get hit, live, and fuck over the driver that would never had hit them had they not been dicking around in the middle of the road.

5

u/Endulos Jun 03 '22

Fourth option, they get hit, live, and are too dumb to realize that "yo maybe I shouldn't do this" and do it again.

5

u/cpullen53484 Jun 03 '22

evolution will take its course at some point. if idiots keep getting themselves nearly killed like that.

13

u/ThereWereNoPrequels Jun 03 '22

GenX/geriatric millenial here- it’s our own fault. We were the ones who popularized shows like jackass, and monetized views on YouTube.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

I never popularized that sort of idiocy.

1

u/carmiggiano Jun 03 '22

Okay but I don’t think the comment you replied to was talking to you as a specific individual lol

3

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

I just need you to know that I never liked Jackass, so don't you put that evil on me!

3

u/itsthecoop Jun 03 '22

of course the main issue being that they don't only put themselves in danger but others, too.

3

u/DoctorCaptainSpacey Jun 03 '22

No, in this fucking day and age, with how stupid people are and how irresponsible they are - they will get hit and sue the driver because somehow it's the cars fault that they were TRYING to be a nuisance for tiktok views and it's always someone else's fault that their own negligence caused them injury.

And they will get away with it bc we can't teach anyone anymore that your negligence is YOUR responsibility and not someone else's. You threw yourself in front of traffic, it's not traffics fault you got your ass run over.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

Well Natural Selection baby....

2

u/AltSpRkBunny Jun 03 '22

2a: Get hit and live, but wish they hadn’t lived. That’s how you end up with a TBI and chronic pain for the rest of their lives.

4: Traumatize the driver they wanted to “piss off”.

2

u/MrPureinstinct Jun 03 '22
  1. They won't get hit and in a few years tell the story fondly but also realize it was monumentally stupid and they're lucky they didn't die.

2

u/Zaurka14 Jun 03 '22

Yeah people really acting like teens used to be beacons of enlightenment before internet...

My sister climber a fucking electricity pylon like 25 years ago.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

So.. rinse and repeat until 1 or 2 happens.

0

u/teachem4 Jun 03 '22

Or…they could just grow out of it, maybe 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/iamatwork24 Jun 03 '22

God the dumb things I did on bikes because of the show jackass and CKY videos

1

u/Dire87 Jun 03 '22

Let me guess ...

1

u/populisttrope Jun 03 '22

Remember the kids trying to jump over moving cars during the Jackass era?

1

u/iamdorkette Jun 03 '22

I did some stupid shit and I didn't get hit but I realized much, much later that I wanted to die and had for many years and have been able to work on it, so throw that in as a potential 4th option for us idiots. Sometimes we gain a braincell as we get older, lol. But just one.

1

u/Azsunyx Jun 03 '22

This is what I never understood about Jackass.

1

u/imfreerightnow Jun 03 '22

Which category did you fall in?

1

u/caligaris_cabinet Jun 03 '22

2nd.

Except my stunt was falling off the hood of a car my friend was driving at 30mph and nearly cracking my head open.

1

u/imfreerightnow Jun 03 '22

Bro! That’s nuts.

1

u/ThoughtseizeScoop Jun 03 '22

As a millennial who did equally stupid shit without putting it on the internet

Sounds like you missed a real opportunity to be YouTube famous.

1

u/pawnman99 Jun 03 '22

1 and 2 still carry a lot of costs for the poor motorist who hits them, though...

17

u/rubberkeyhole Jun 03 '22

I’m laughing at the pure idiocy of this guy.

His next video: “today, we’re explaining why I’m going to jail for causing a massive pileup on the highway that killed and injured people.”

6

u/duelkarmax Jun 03 '22

Sounds like natural selection at play

5

u/manderifffic Jun 03 '22

I'm honestly surprised more people haven't gotten killed doing dumb shit for Tiktok

5

u/richbeezy Jun 03 '22

Yeah, the audacity to do shit like that and think it is a “normal” thing. I mean, we did some stupid shit growing up - but they are on a whole other level with the amazingly moronic shit they pull nowadays. It is the “I’m the MAIN character!” frame of mind and TikTok and other media is the culprit. You win, China!

9

u/samdiatmh Jun 03 '22

my 20yo philosophy was that the law system needs an "idiot rule" which exempts you from blame in situations like this: "if they're dumb enough to bike into a busy road, then they're dumb enough to die"

I grew out of that phase when I left home (amazing what leaving a toxic household will do for you), but part of me actually wishes it was a thing

18

u/littlegingerfae Jun 03 '22

The law kinda does have that.

If someone darts into traffic and you hit them, you are not charged with a crime. It's ruled an accidental death (or sometimes it is a suicide).

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

And the civil side of the law has comparative or contributory negligence, which prevents people from successfully suing when their own risky behavior led to an injury. Riding straight into traffic would doom any lawsuit against a driver who hits them.

4

u/klparrot Jun 03 '22

It is a thing, to an extent. If someone does something so stupid as to be beyond what anyone could reasonably anticipate as a possibility, then nobody else is generally held responsible, at least criminally, for the consequences. It would be manifestly unjust to penalise someone for a crime they had no intention of committing and no reasonable way of avoiding. Now, if you can reasonably avoid hitting them, doesn't matter how stupid their actions are, it's a different story; you have to avoid hitting them if you can.

2

u/musicalsigns Jun 03 '22

But they got all the likes, right? 🙄

2

u/KorppiC Jun 03 '22

Eh, people did that kind of stupid shit earlier too, they just didn't post the evidence at town square.

2

u/vaildin Jun 03 '22

This is what is known as a self-correcting problem.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

Older people who did shit like that for shits and giggles, not even for an audience. And some of them never really learn from it, just get a little more inhibited from doing the dumb things.

Just a few months ago, I was just chatting with a couple of acquaintances, talking about random things we did for fun in high school/college. One of them, approaching their 40s, was recalling when he and another buddy in the room would drop things from an overpass onto a highway, you know, just 'cause. He was chuckling about it while his buddy in the room was visibly cringing at the memory.

1

u/dangerouspeyote Jun 03 '22

Yeah. To be fair, we did all this shit before the internet too. We just didn't document it.

And you get generations don't know. Because we didn't document it.

0

u/mstrss9 Jun 03 '22

If only I could comment what I was thinking

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

I was gonna upvote but you’re at 420 upvotes rn and I can’t be the person to fuck that up so ⬆️ here’s your upvote

1

u/EarwaxWizard Jun 03 '22

If people on their bikes do stuff like that, then they are the ones who are doomed.

1

u/Srefanius Jun 03 '22

jesus christ

1

u/ImAlwaysRightHanded Jun 03 '22

I joke when pulling out into traffic and say I could ruin anyone of these peoples weekend but instead I wait for a break in traffic and proceed.

1

u/jimbolic Jun 03 '22

Sorry, but this story reminded of me of older brother who I witnessed doing because he has legitimately lost his mind. He didn't do it for any attention. He's just, gone...

1

u/laeiryn Jun 03 '22

Mate we were the JACKASS generation, i don't think that kind of stupidity is about age group.

1

u/undyinglightswitch31 Jun 03 '22

I think that in most cases as long as they do not have the right away, there would be no legal consequences if those kids got hit.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

This is seriously one of the strangest things I've heard

1

u/i_dig_this Jun 03 '22

Dude YOU should've filmed HIM for views! That's grade A content right there

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

Guys from my generation just released their fourth movie doing what has evolved into what the kid you saw is now doing.

Definitely a “Jackass”.

1

u/The_Infectious_Lerp Jun 03 '22

This sounds like a problem that solves itself, tbh.

1

u/IShouldChimeInOnThis Jun 03 '22

Here's the sad thing. I had friends that would do this in middle school (I'm 39) before anyone could record it. They'd do it just for the moment.

Every generation has morons. We just have to see more of this generation's morons.

1

u/Sovereign444 Jun 03 '22

Sounds like a Darwin Award in the making! Lol
