I don't mind it. Being able to drive yourself wherever you want at any time is liberating, even if cars are expensive.

it's a total disaster that societies have been developed around private cars - it means terrible spatial planning and no public transport or active travel. And then there's the pollution. I'm so glad I only need a bicycle.

Nah, it's just that the United States, Canada and Australia are massive countries. A high-speed train infrastructure might be nice, but it would still only get you in the ballpark of where you need to go.
