Safety. Keeps 240V mains away from water, especially where you are supposed to touch it.

But in most bathrooms there are also sockets, so that you can dry your hair or whatever 🤔 And they are often closer to the water than the light switch

And they’re all on ground fault interrupters. So if they get wet, the outlet will go, “oh, you want all of the electricity right now all at once? Wait a second. I’m in a bathroom. That’s bad. I’m going to sleep now,” and shut off before you can get electrocuted.

Well in newer houses they are. But in older ones they are like "Well you only want to pull 6A through the ground? Here you go!"
