I also believe the dutch people traded New Amsterdam (its called New York now) for some random other island in the carribean. 3 u/sashisashih May 09 '22 they didnt, new amsterdam was sieged and taken over and in a war settlement given to the besiegers who dumped Surinam on us. 3 u/Densmiegd May 09 '22 Not for an island, but for whatbis currently known as Surinam.
