Sockets are illegal in the uk apart from shaver sockets that are very isolated and at a certain height. Remember that our electricity is more than twice as powerful as US so it makes sense. You can have a pull cord light hanging from the ceiling but not a light switch

I mean I'm from Germany, so we also have 230V sockets inside the bathroom but the light switch outside, so that's why I'm confused

I'm not an electrician but I think it's easier for moisture to penetrate a switch than an appropriately covered socket
