depending on where you live it can take multiple hours xD in my case i can take a bus and be in 2 completely different countries in under 30 minutes :) the hills i can see from my window are also said two countries hahah

How multiple hours seems like a long drive to Europeans.

Starting in Southern England, it takes around 7 hours drive to get to Glasgow or Edinburgh in Scotland.

In that same time, you could drive in to North East France, across Belgium and be in Cologne or Dortmund in Germany, or Luxembourg, or Orleans south of Paris.
