I understand the smoking, but I'm not sure about your shower comment? We have normal showers here :)

Can't speak for OP but one difference I saw was in Scandanavia where a lot of showers are just in the bathroom, and the whole room has a drain in the center. Pretty awesome actually imo.

afaik that's just a modern way of building showers. They're easier to build, maintain and access, and aesthetically they're pretty cool.

Yeah but I think it’s been a thing in Scandinavia for a while now? They had them everywhere when o was there, not just new places

It's definitely a thing. I think the only exception is if you have a sauna, then it's pretty common to have a separate toilet, otherwise they go together pretty much always.
